This training will be held in a beautiful Andalusian-style eco-farm. The property is situated on the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park, where you can enjoy a variety of local fauna and flora. At 1,250 meters above sea level, this center offers the best of fresh clean mountain air and the southern Spanish summer sun.

This eco-farm has been adapted as a retreat center with traditional Spanish accommodation, a natural mineral water swimming pool, and two yoga shalas, one indoor and one outdoor. The main yoga room is spacious and has a broad view of the surrounding mountains.

The accommodation rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, appointed in the same manner as found in an ashram-style living. There are single and shared rooms available.

The training is conducted away from noise, pollution, or any distractions. An ashram-style environment means a space where you can immerse in yourself, your training, and your yoga. There is also beautiful nature around, so you can use some of your free time in peace and quiet.

The 5 Elements tradition

The 5 Elements is an ancient philosophical tradition which facilitates a deeper understanding of yoga through infusing your yoga practice with specific movement and intention. In the 5 Elements philosophy, earth grounds, water flows, fire energizes, air lightens, and space expands.

This teacher training is based on an elemental approach, as it is pivotal to all yoga philosophy. However, the curriculum is both traditional and elemental. You will learn how to be a good yoga teacher and how you choose to focus.

Taught in a traditional ashram style, Swara Yoga School places a strong emphasis on interactive and experiential learning. This training encourages each student to listen deeply to their own process and undertake specific practices for self-inquiry held within the group experience.

In this yoga teacher training, you will use asana, pranayama, meditation, and diet to bring your whole system into balance, using the qualities of each element.

From the static alignment based practices of Iyengar yoga to the dynamic flowing sequences of Vinyasa and the deep stillness of Yin yoga, you will learn the value of each style of yoga according to the 5 Elements and your individual constitution.

The training

During this program, you will train six days a week, with one day off a week, and will work eight to nine hours a day. There will be around four hours of practice and four hours of lectures, discussions, teaching practice, and other activities. For two nights per week, you will have both bhajans (devotional singing) and conscious cinema.

The style

Swara Yoga School covers a variety of styles during the course as we work with the different elements, so the style serves the purpose of experiencing the element that they are specifically working. From alignment based Hatha and Vinyasa Flow to the more subtle energetic practices of Yin yoga, Yoga Nidra, and mindfulness, students will learn different ways of practicing and teaching. Morning classes are more dynamic and alignment based. Afternoon practices are a combination of restorative Yin yoga and meditation.

Retreat location

This yoga teacher training will take place in the Alpujarra historical region, Andalusia, Spain. Andalusia is Spain’s southernmost region, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea in the east to the Portuguese border in the west.

The main attraction of the landscape of Andalusia centers on its impressive contrasts: mountains and beaches, deserts and salt flats, and plains and countryside where Mediterranean crops alternate with pastureland.

Between the highest mountains of Andalusia and the Mediterranean Sea, the Alpujarras is one of the most enchanting and beautiful regions of Spain. The meeting point will be in the town center of Órgiva.
