The guests will be staying in the lovely 3-star resorts of Tal Fanal and Ta Frenc which are right opposite each other & sharing a spacious 2-4 bedroom apartment. The complexes are located on the edge of Ghasri offering an ideal location to relax & unwind. There is a large yoga room and outdoor space for your daily practice and both compounds have their own large pool and sun terraces.

Villagg Tal-Fanal, a 10 minute drive from the capital city Victoria, is a cluster of apartments superbly finished with typical rustic style interiors and farmhouse style stone arches and wooden beams. Set in the heart of the peaceful Gozitan countryside, guests can enjoy beautiful country and/or distant sea views. There is a small well-stocked mini-market within walking distance from the village and the bus stop is a 5 minute walk away.

There are twenty six apartments in all (two, three or four bedrooms), each having a well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room. The two bed-roomed apartments have two bathrooms each, one of which is ensuite. All the two bed-roomed apartments have a large terrace on ground or first floor level. The three bed-roomed apartments are all on the ground floor level with a large terrace; they have two or three bathrooms.

A large swimming pool and sunbeds are at the disposal of the residents. The village is adorned with plants, and there is an atmosphere of complete relaxation and tranquility. All residents may park their cars in a large underground car park situated beneath part of the village itself. A weekly maid service including change of linen and towels is included during your stay.

The newly built complex of Tal Frenc consists of 26 beautifully furnished apartments. It is situated right across the road from "Villagg Tal-Fanal".

Each apartment consists of two twin-bedded bedrooms (one with bath or shower room ensuite), separate shower room / WC, fully equipped kitchen and very spacious living/dining area with cable TV. The apartments have either a terrace or a balcony overlooking the large common swimming pool; most also enjoy fantastic country and distant sea views.

Single occupancy and ensuite bathroom supplement options are subject to availability. Twin share room is available if another guest of the same gender wishes to share. Free WiFi available.

This is a great opportunity to deepen your practice and for beginners to jump in at the deep end. Although this retreat includes meditation sessions, it focuses mainly on the yoga practice. There will be two daily one and a half hour classes per day based on the Sivananda system. Both will include asanas, pranayama, and meditation. All levels can be catered for and classes are tailored to suit each student individually. In your free time, you can just chill by the pool and relax, wander round the village or take a sightseeing tour around the island. Scuba diving and snorkeling trips are also available as well as a boat trip around Camino Island. All other activities are not included and you will be able to arrange them at your leisure.

Sunra is delighted to offer holidays to this stunning new location. A jewel in the Mediterranean with its wonderful weather, stunning scenery and beaches, steeped in history and as yet quite unspoiled, they invite you to come, relax and enjoy this beautiful island of Gozo!

The island is a masterpiece created by nature, with its pristine shoreline, untouched country trails, baroque architecture and 7000 years of culture. The government have a project in place to make it an Eco island with a view to complete the project by 2020 and it is fastly becoming a tourist attraction in its own right.

Gozo is easily accessed by a 20-minute ferry ride which runs 24/7 from the port in Malta, 1 to 1.5 hours from Malta International Airport (MLA). Airlines fly daily from all over Europe offering inexpensive flights all year round. For UK flights please look at www.airmalta.com www.ryanair.com and www.easyjet.com For flights from Europe and worldwide please look at www.skyscanner.net.

Sunra are running the 2017 Gozo yoga holidays at Villagg Tal Fanal & Ta Frenc in Ghasri, Gozo’s smallest village dominated by Ta Gurdan Lighthouse standing 180m above sea level on a flat topped hill, high above the village. A steep path leads up to the lighthouse, with the reward of spectacular 360 degree views across the island. The village lies nestled between the hills of Zebbug and Ghammar overlooking the Ghasri Valley, which is ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. The scenery ends in a beautiful tight gorge dropping into the sea, a sight popular with divers.

The nearest place to swim in the sea is Ghasri Gorge, a 15 minute walk away from Tal Fanal. There are many steps up & down but it's totally worth the effort! Another fabulous location to swim is at the inlet at Dwejra beside the Azure Window, where you will also have a yoga class & sunset Meditation, weather permitting. The inlet is a natural lagoon of seawater linked to the Mediterranean Sea through a narrow opening formed by a natural arch and a 50-metre cave.

The beach is very picturesque with traditional colorful fishing boats bobbing up and down, and with beautiful nature surrounding the lagoon. It has shallow, calm and safe waters with a pebbly shore and seabed. The Maltese Luzzu boats pass through the tunnel of the inlet and you can take a ride through the tunnel to explore the nearby caves - Fungus Rock and Azure Window for an additional cost of 4 EUR.

There are two sandy beaches on the island. Ramla Bay, which is the largest of the two, offers sun beds, umbrellas & a cafeteria & San Blas, which is small with a very steep walk from the road, but worth the trek! There is a jeep service available for 3 EUR each way if you prefer to take it easy. There are also sun beds, umbrellas and a cafeteria here. The bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the venue and from there you can take a 15 minute bus ride from Victoria & then another bus on to both beaches. Please note from Ghasri to Victoria the buses run once per hour. There is a flat rate of 2 EUR for any bus journey, however the ticket lasts for two hours, so you can use it on any bus route. You can also hire cars, bicycles & scooters locally, please ensure you bring your license!

Victoria, the capital of Gozo, is buzzy & lively, full of shops, restaurants & cafes where you can sit outside & watch the world go by. You can also visit Gran Castello, a citadel in an area of Victoria which has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. The Cittadella is a combination of a medieval castle and an early modern gunpowder fortress, with its northern walls retaining a largely medieval form and its southern walls dating back to a 17th-century reconstruction.

Ġgantija in Xaghra is a megolithic temple, the oldest known ruins in the world, even older than the Pyramids! Coach parties stop here but if you wait for them to pass through it is much easier to get a sense of the scale of the temples and the effort it must have taken to construct then so long ago. There is some information given out and tickets for here also get you into the Ta Kola windmill and can be used once for each attraction over a couple of weeks so you don't need to visit them both on the same day.

Most villages in Gozo have a quaint square in its center with a church. These squares are generally surrounded by bars and restaurants. The churches are stunning and always worth a visit.

"I've had a lovely yoga week in Gozo. It turned out it was only a max of 4 students sharing a house and taking the classes twice a day. The house in Sannat was lovely, roof terrace overlooking the hills and the host of the house, Karen, also cooking us diner every night, was the most lovely lady you can imagine. The other 3 girls and I had the most amazing time together. Jon, our yoga teacher, was most willing to live up to our yoga wishes so there was a lot of individual attention.Communication wise, Sunra was not as professional as they present themselves online. It turned out this was the first time they had the yoga week on that location in Sannat and it came with a lot of unclarities. There was not enough space on the rooftop terrace to fit 4 yoga mats, the described optional trip to Comino wasn't mentioned during the week, the sunset mediation we had to ask for and arrange ourselves, half of the pictures showed online were from a different location, there were no cushions and props provided, and so on. It was in the little things, but added up. It was pretty disappointing that Barbara, the owner, started in defense when answering my email about these things that they've presented to me online differently. Although the yoga itself and the location was great, the communication from Sunra wasn't and that's something to mention."

      "Response from Sunra Yoga:"

      "Dear Tessa,"

"I am very sorry for your disappointment with some aspects of the holiday but very pleased nonetheless that you did enjoy yourself and that you were very happy with the yoga, location and food. It was our third holiday, not the first at this venue, but it is our first summer working in Gozo so we have experienced some teething problems. In addition I have had a number of health issues and have been unable to be as hands on as I normally would. We are currently addressing all of your issues, the yoga roof space has been improved to accommodate 5 people and we have updated the itinerary to make it clear regarding the Camino trip on the day off is optional and not arranged by ourselves. Jon had been instructed to do a sunset meditation but didn’t realise it was supposed to be at the beach and instead did it on the roof, which is my mistake. After you wrote to me regarding it not being at the beach I rectified this immediately by arranging for the yoga and sunset meditation to take place the next day at the Azure Window which as I understand you all thoroughly enjoyed. Given this is my first summer working in Gozo I should’ve taken the 5pm beach yoga off the site during the summer as it is really too hot. Regarding the different pics online, it was stated that the holidays were taking place at two different locations in Gozo and pics of both were on the websites. Throughout August all were in the venue in Sannat, which was the info all guests were given upon first enquiry. Regarding props and cushions I explained that in the Sivananda system we do not use props ie blocks, straps or ropes & as far as I was concerned I felt the cushions available in the house were adequate, having used some of them myself when teaching there. Since your feedback we will be considering props for future guests unfamiliar with the Sivananda system. I’m really sorry if I came across as defensive in response to your email, but it was in no way my intention. I appreciate your honest feedback, am addressing all the issues & hope you continue with your practice."

"Just came home after such an amazing week in Gozo. It was fantastic. No words. It was my first experience, but I can say with 100% confidence it was unforgettable. People I met on this retreat became my souls and teachers. Beautiful place, very special atmosphere, lots of sun, lots of emotions. The best for me and reason why I chose specifically this retreat, was small groups to stay and practice yoga with. We always had attention of our lovely teacher, John and enjoyed time spent together. Anyway, I will definitely repeat it! Thank you."

"The Bedouine Moon Hotel is a really nice hotel with very beautiful rooms and a great pool area. The staff is very friendly and they read your wishes from your lips so that you already feel familiar after a few days of vacation. I also really enjoyed the morning yoga classes with our great teacher Natalie. The divesites (blue whole, murray gardens and the canyon) were fascinating and I felt really safe due to our professional diving instructor Camal from Reef2000. Although because of the political situation there a very few tourists that visit Dahab, which is very sad and brings negative business for the local people."

"Barbara Gordon is a personable host. She's loved in the community, which she knows deeply and enjoys sharing. In yoga class, she shows precise attention to details, using adjustments to allow for the optimal alignment. Nataly Dubok taught evening classes with incredible efficiency and intelligence. Once I articulated my aims, she knew how to lead me on a fun, unique, and rewarding journey, using a vast repertoire of poses. In my ten years of practice, she's the most unpretentious yet knowledgeable yoga teacher I've met, capable of inspiring laughter, trust, coordination, and progress.I highly recommend Sunra Yoga. These ladies are talented, compassionate, and original. They genuinely want you to have a fun and worthwhile holiday."
