The yoga diving course is completely unique and the first of its kind in the world. Pioneered by two experts in their field, Barbara Gordon and Monica Farrell, the week will give you an introduction to yoga and diving with a yogic approach to the latter. It is suitable for everybody - divers and non-divers, experienced yoga practitioners and beginners in both fields.
The yoga diving course combines techniques of hatha yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation with scuba diving in a beautiful, natural environment. Pre-dive Hatha yoga classes teach you to breathe, relax, concentrate and stretch in preparation for diving. The focus of yoga diving is to bring about inner transformations through meditative experiences of the body/mind both on land and under the sea. We combine yoga asanas and breathing with diving techniques. This approach brings us to incredible close encounters with nature and helps us feel stillness, relaxation and altered states of consciousness.
A yoga and meditation practice in the quiet of the Sinai desert and floating in the pristine blueness and living colors of the Red Sea is an experience, which cannot be compared. Combining yoga and diving allows us to experience another body-consciousness through the weightlessness achieved through diving.
Non-divers will learn diving in an open, respectful and natural way and receive a relevant PADI certification. Certified divers can markedly better their buoyancy skills and ability to observe the life undersea, as well as, increase lung capacity and improve air consumption. The course has also helped many to overcome their fear of water. All diving groups are small, so that our instructors can spend as much time with each individual as required. Many of our guests have commented that they feel incredibly looked after.
For all, yoga diving removes stress and encourages freedom from thought. Diving helps you to experience breath and movement underwater as a form of meditation. Taught together, diving and yoga can open you up to different worlds, both inner and outer.
Each day begins with an 08:00 yoga class, which teaches you to breathe properly and prepares you for the sport element of diving. Your diving instruction begins where the yoga leaves off with very gentle introduction to equipment and breathing underwater on your first dive. As a beginner you will dive in shallow, easy locations while still surrounded by the beauty of undersea life - no swimming pool work is necessary as tuition is either one to one or in a very small group with your instructor.
Relaxation and safety are the goals of your diving and skills are taught at your own pace in a relaxed manner.
The group also generally goes out for dinner together a couple of evenings in the week to one of Dahab's many restaurants. On your day off you can visit the famous Mount Moses and/or visit St Katherines Monastery. You can also go to snorkel at Ras Abu Galum, a small Bedouin village one hour north of Dahab up the coastline. Bedouin live there as they have done for centuries and it is still without electricity. There is wonderful snorkeling there and you can stay the night there hosted by Bedouin. There is still plenty of time for additional activities which include diving, snorkeling, camel or horse riding, desert dinner/meditation, trekking, mountaineering and wind/kite surfing.
Dahab is one of the Red Seas oldest diving resorts and hosts some of the most spectacular and challenging dive sites in Egypt. It is now just as popular as a budget holiday resort location for those who simply want to relax and get some sun, however with camel safaris, snorkeling trips, and desert excursions to name a few days out, theres plenty to keep you occupied too.
The yoga diving courses take place at Reef 2000 Dive Centre located at the beautiful Bedouin Moon Hotel on the northern outskirts of Dahab - a haven of natural beauty on the idyllic Red Sea Coast.
The restaurant and pool bar are fully licensed and offer a mouth watering menu from a simple bar snack to a feast of dishes combining the best of International and Middle Eastern cuisine. A full open buffet breakfast is served in the main restaurant where your eggs are prepared any way you choose and the chefs pancakes are limitless and a truly spectacular way to start your day.
The weekly Bedouin Moon pool barbeque is the best smell in Egypt and tastes even better than it smells. With an enormous selection of meats salads and dips it turns the heads of hungry meat eaters and veggies alike. The pool bar & restaurant sits at the base of the mountain and serve a selection of beers wines and spirits to the thirsty - it also has a full menu available.
Once a week we leave the pool bar & restaurant and head for the hills for a traditional Bedouin dinner in the mountains where the Bedouin cook freshly prepared food on an open fire under the moon and a million desert stars.
Activities in Dahab and excursions in and around Dahab include boat and camel safaris, quad bike riding and desert trekking. Diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kite surfing and other water sports can all be arranged at Reef 2000 Dive Center next to the Bedouin Moon.
Excursions include trips to St Catherines monastery or Mount Sinai to watch an inspirational sunrise over the desert and mountains from the summit. Trips to the Colored Canyon, Wadi Gnai, the White Canyon or the Oasis of Ain Hudra can be arranged.
An over night trip to Cairo or a 2 day trip to Petra in Jordan will cross off a couple of the ancient wonders of the world from your list.
Our yoga and massage therapists offer tailor made holistic treatment based on your individual needs and mood. Massage is always at hand to help you unwind and relax and is on call any time from reception of the Bedouin Moon Hotel.
If you are looking for flights to Dahab you can fly direct to Sharm el Sheikh or Taba airport.
There are also buses available from the Sharm or Taba bus station to Dahab. You need to get a taxi to the bus station from the airport and though you may have to wait for a couple of hours, the trip is very affordable.
