Vis is the biggest and oldest settlement on the island. It was established in this spot by the Greeks in 4th century BC due to its well protected natural bay and environment suitable for food growing. During ages it was famous for its strategical point (centre point of entire the Adriatic Sea) so it was ruled (or conquered) by many cultures Romans, Venetians, Austrians and Brits. Each of these cultures left something behind making Vis quite architecturally special its the home of Greek Polis ruins, Roman theatre and spa ruins, Venetian palaces, British forts and Austrian stronghold and lighthouses. Simply a must see little town.
Komiza is a small town with rich history strongly attached to the sea. It is one of the most picturesque towns in Croatia, surrounded by green hills, vineyards and crystal clear sea filled with small fishing boats. All stone houses are tightly compacted around narrow streets right on the sea coast creating excellent shelter from sun and strong winds. Ultimate bohemian spirit and laid back atmosphere can be noticed on every corner of this place filled with life, restaurants and bars.
Stiniva cove is a natural phenomenon of an unbelievably attractive and unusual appearance situated on the south side of the island of Vis. Looking from the sea side, Stiniva is closed in by two high rocky cliffs which, at their closest point, are just four metres apart from each other. After that cliffs expand into an unexpectedly wide and beautiful seaside cove. Probably it was produced by collapsed cave ceiling in the geologic past. The fresh appearance of the blue-green sea beside the white cliffs is nothing short of magical.
Srebrna Beach (Silver Beach) is located near the small tourist town Rukavac on the southeast side of the island. It is one of the most attractive and beautiful beaches on this island. The beach is exposed to open sea and the waves. Its perfectly white pebbles, large flat rocks and pine grove make it ideal for picnics and naps.
