Ayurveda is the ancient system of healing, originating in India, thousands of years ago. In Sanskrit, "Ayur" means "life" and "veda" means "knowledge", so Ayurveda is the "science of life", which is based on the profound insights and understanding of the laws of nature, cognized by the sages or rishis of ancient times. Ayurveda has spread throughout the world and is recognized and practiced worldwide as a unique, holistic, and most practical system of health.

Principles of Ayurveda

Ayurveda originated from basic principles that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth, and ether. These elements are represented in humans by three "doshas", or energies: vata, pitta, and kapha. Each individual has a distinct balance of the doshas, and if any of them accumulate in the body above a certain limit, the body loses its balance. The Ayurveda approach to health focuses on getting the right balance of the three doshas or "tridoshas". In finding the right balance and to reduce excess dosha, Ayurveda recommends rejuvenation therapies, a healthy lifestyle, diet, and herbal nutrition.

Benefits of Ayurveda

  • Cleansing of the accumulated toxins of the body and mind
  • Restoration of constitutional balances
  • Strengthening of the immune system
  • Reversing the negative effects of stress and pollution
  • Promoting longevity
  • Enhancing strength and energy
  • Enhancing vitality and mental clarity
  • Leaving the body and mind relaxed and rejuvenated
  • Promoting the natural healing process
  • Bringing about clarity and spiritual insight
  • Deeply relaxing and soothing individuals

Yoga

The practice of yoga is an important part of achieving perfect balance, by using a simple sequence of postures that enlivens each major muscle group of the body. Yoga and Ayurveda work together: the yoga refines the mind and the body, so that Ayurvedic medicines and treatments can reach their full potential.

Meditation

Meditation allows the time to ease the stress of daily life whilst developing wisdom, intuition, and self awareness. At our Ayurvedic health retreat and spa, meditation is a key component of rejuvenation to incorporate all levels of relaxation, balance, and cleansing. Based on time tested and scientifically validated processes, we use a combination of Ayurvedic treatments, yoga, and meditation to create a profound experience, allowing you to develop a greater sense of inner peace and good health.

Guru Ji (Made Warnawa)

"The care taken and the skill of the staff are just wonderful. I came to the resort tired and worn out and I leave a week later feeling 300% better. The daily treatments meant that I actually could do yoga twice a day plus walk and swim, even though the exercise stretched me."

"My wife and I spent seven wonderful days here over New Year. I didn't know exactly what was involved but I knew I would embrace whatever was going to happen. I met with Geoff, one of the owners who described it as a 'total mind and body reset' which was a perfect description. I always thought I eat fairly healthy but Dr Raju took my understanding to a whole different level. I can not express in this short review how great this place is. Go and embrace it all, you will improve your health and mind, improve your knowledge and the person you arrive as, will not be the same person that leaves."

"I stayed at Sukhavati for nine days over New Year. While I didn't quite know what to expect, the whole experience was just total bliss from the beginning straight to the end. Being amongst recurring other guests who have been doing Panchakarma all over the world for more than 20 years, I felt in good hands straight away. Every single person there was warm and welcoming, that alone felt nourishing. Then Dr. Raju did his miracle work. All these wonderful treatments were taken with extra care, attention, and dedication, allowing space for individual needs. Days filled with massages, special treatments, meditation, yoga, walks, talks, and wonderful meals soon resulted in decelerating and unwinding. My body as well as my mind started to let go of tensions which let to a calm and peaceful state. Thank you Steve, for your coaching on meditation, it came to me just at the right time. Thanks for and to your place and beautiful staff, I feel detoxed, nourished, full of strength, content, and confident in my life. Who would have thought nine days could make such a difference?"

"Excellent Ayurvedic treatments and doctor. Large villas, beautifully maintained as were the lush tropical gardens. I had my own villa, garden, and pool. As good as any Ayurvedic Panchakarma I have had in India - but way more luxurious."

"I ambled over to Sukhavati from the beautiful Villa MAWAR next door to see renowned Dr RAJU, the resident Ayervedic physician at Sukhavati. He was incredible! Took my 'pulse' for ten minutes and described correctly in detail all my ailments, one of which was snoring. He said "I can fix that" and prescribed a little specially medicated GHEE every morning before breakfast. Within 24 hours my snoring reduced, and within 48 hours...gone completely! Extraordinary! Now he's working on my arthritis and other problems. After a week's detox at Sukhavati I feel absolutely amazing. Couldn't recommend either Sukhavati or Dr Raju more highly!"

The staff members were all incredibly kind and accommodating. The food was wonderfully diverse, expertly prepared, and always fresh. The yoga classes and treatments were all wonderful, it was without a doubt the most relaxing and restorative week I have ever spent. I would go back again without hesitation!"

"From the moment I arrived at Sukhavati I knew something special was awaiting me. My 6 days at this beautiful retreat made me feel like part of the family and I've hopefully made some long lasting friendships. With the intent of distressing and taking some time to reflect on life, Sukhavati provided me with the perfect oasis. From my beautiful villa to the stunning gardens surrounds I was captivated and instantly relaxed. The extensive knowledge and education provided by Dr Ragut and the team guided me through the process of getting back to a healthier and better approach to life both physically and mentally. I can't speak highly enough about the vegetarian food, the tailored treatments which were the best I've experienced after visiting many retreats globally.I thoroughly enjoyed my yoga lessons with the family, walking through the local village and getting to know everyone who was staying at Sukhavati. I left with a heavy heart and wished I could have stayed longer. Now I'm armed with a new approach to work and leading a more balanced day to day life. A few days later feeling super relaxed and with a very clear mind. I can't wait to return!"

"I suppose that waxing lyrical on any successful holiday destination is to be expected, especially after having just returned. But Sukhavati is more than a holiday destination. We all go there for our own personal reasons: Be it a medical problem that needs correcting or regulating or be it an emotional or spiritual one. Be it to perfect the art of yoga or be it to advance in transcendental meditation Sukhavati seems to have the right answer. From the owner Steve, to the doctors, to the staff, to the other guests - right down to the little touches via the treatments, the yoga, the attitude, the peace and the love that is so all consuming at Sukhavati. It is luxurious. It is indulgent. You are special. You matter. You are worth it. You are made to feel as if you belong. You are sent home with a sense of purpose and a determination to live your life in a different way. And it is not hard to follow once back to the daily grind. It is, in my mind and surely in the minds of countless others, unsurpassable."

"From the moment I booked this retreat through to returning home; this was a five star experience. I booked to attend an Intuitive Wellness retreat there, however I did travel solo. This retreat isn't near any markets or shops, it's away from the madness. I was greeted at the airport by one of the Sukhavati staff members who drove myself and another guest to the retreat. As the car rolled through the front gates of the property, any stress I was carrying just melted away. Waiting for the car to arrival were the amazing staff, handed a welcome drink, adorned a flower necklace, and a wooden necklace and was whisked off to the foyer to drink my welcome drink. After I was shown around and guided to my stunning private pool villa, my bag was already placed in my room. Days followed with sensational food (I hadn't had Ayurvedic food previously and it was really good), incredible and multiple spa treatments, fun yoga sessions and truly deep rest and rejuvenation. I cannot rate this experience higher, it was simply one of the best holidays I've ever had and I'll definitely be going back!"

"My trip to Sukhavati was undoubtedly the most enjoyable, most relaxing, and most amazing holiday experience that I have ever had. The staff there were so warm and so friendly. The facilities made me wonder, if I had walked into the garden of Eden. The massage rooms are in huts, those huts rest on top of a river and look out onto the lush green jungle. Sitting there, getting a foot massage - listening to the river flowing beneath me, and looking out onto the sun hitting the trees and plants was truly majestic. I would and will go back to Sukhavati as often as I can. Thanks for having us :)."

"This is an amazing and special place in Bali, one I would highly recommend. Prior to arriving at the property, I was met at the airport gate by a staff member and then driven to the property. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly staff. The setting was out of this world - amazing. Given a brief tour prior to dinner with the other guests. Although away from the hustle of the main tourist area's of Bali, you can request a driver take you into town for a few hours. The wellness program was more than expected and definitely needed due to the busy lifestyle I have. Staying ten days allowed me to take a moment out and feel recovered, both mentally and physically. The daily massages were a treat! I would highly recommend this place for those needed a break and wanting time out."

"I decided to return to Sukhavati for a second time earlier this year after feeling drained and worn out from a very busy year. I opted for 10 days, last time was seven. To see the beautiful staff and experience their nurturing again, along with returning to meditation and yoga practice sent me home with a renewed sense of balance and health."

"I recently completed a three-week Ayurveda program and it was excellent. The amazing service from the staff, the food was so well prepared, first class villa accommodations, twice-daily Hatha yoga, the daily Ayurveda massages were so therapeutic, truly bliss facials, and daily follow-ups from the resident doctor. Can't give enough compliments for the program or to the staff. It seemed most guests stayed about 10 days. If you can plan for three weeks, that is ideal to receive the full benefit of the Panchakarma program. I am sure glad I did."

"I was fortunate enough to stay at Sukhavati in the week leading up to Christmas. Over the seven days, I was thoroughly spoilt, in not only having amazing spa treatments each day but also the daily facial and foot massages. An endless supply of teas and juices were a treat! The choice of two yoga sessions a day are cognizant of your level of experience. The only downside to me was the time of year we were there; we were inundated with flying bugs which loved the lights making it impossible to sit outside at night, and geckos the size of lizards. Made for some very noisy sleep. Would I go back? Yes, but maybe in another season."

"My teenage daughter and I spent 10 blissful days at Sukahavti, which I believe will have an impact on her life (and mine) forever. She experienced many life lessons simply by being there; concepts about healthy eating, exercise, benefits of relaxation or quiet time, natures' cycles, diversity of people (staff, local villagers, and other guests), the importance of community, family and being happy; lessons that don't have the same impact coming from a parent. The multi-layered effect of exotic location, beautiful accommodation, engaged, caring, and skillful staff provided the perfect foundation for complete rejuvenation, healing, and relaxation. The treatments were unique and targeted specific medical needs as well as providing a blissful after effect. Yoga, meditation, Ayurvedic talks, and cooking classes all added to a well-rounded program, which refocused our thoughts and reminded us of the value and simplicity of keeping healthy My daughter will miss her Balinese friends who cared for her, fed her and taught her so many wonderful new things."

"The whole experience at Sukhavati was awesome, from the luxurious private villas, magnificent gardens and pools, amazingly talented panchakarma (PK) technicians, and the most wonderful food I have ever experienced. The staffs are all very gentle and caring and nothing is too much trouble. I have experienced PK in many places, but this is certainly by far the best experience I have ever had. The daily routine of a walk, yoga, meditation, breakfast by the pool, massages, foot massages, lunch, facial, bike riding, meditation, yoga, dinner, and then bed left me invigorated and re-inspired. I thoroughly recommend this wonderful retreat."
