The school's location in Varkala offers extremely peaceful and quiet surroundings which are ideal for the spiritual aspirant. All of the rooms have lots of light, a ceiling fan, table, private bathroom, wifi, and double beds.
The major asana focus will be on Hatha yoga and the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series. Students will also have daily meditation, pranayama, and mantra classes. Those who complete their yoga teacher training program in Varkala will feel confident in their ability to teach students safely and effectively, and will have gained tremendous insight into the ancient yogic lifestyle.
Suddha Anand Yogshala maintains a small class size and limits the number of students to 15. They do this to ensure that everyone receives the highest standards of quality instruction and the one on one attention they rightfully deserve. A nurturing and holistic environment will be created where students can come to practice, to learn, to teach, and to heal themselves. Hatha classes will be slower paced with emphasis on alignment principles, hands on adjustments, and teaching proper verbal cueing. The Ashtanga Vinyasa classes will be taught in the traditional method as taught by Pattabhi Jois. Students will be introduced to one posture at a time and will slowly progress through the series over the course of the month. Student will master each individual posture, thus, allowing a proper opening of the body and the required mental and physical preparation for the subsequent postures. This makes the practice available to everyone, meditative in nature, and also ensures students will not injure themselves. injure themselves.
Suddha Anand Yogshala is pleased to have partnered with Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Mathews, authors of the book "Yoga Anatomy", in order to provide their students the privilege of watching a series of taped lectures by these two internationally recognized teachers. Students will explore anatomy and physiology in great detail as they work through the videos. They will study the effects of asana on the different bodily systems and will also study anatomy as it relates to asana, pranayama and bandhas. Exploration begins with the bones, joints, ligaments, connective tissue, and muscles. The lectures will then move into the study of strength and flexibility, the lower limbs, ad finish with the upper limbs. This is an excellent "foundational" anatomy series.
Please note there are no classes on Sundays so students have their own personal time to enjoy or relax.
Students will have many opportunities to practice yoga teaching so they feel completely at ease and confident in front of a class.
Prana is the life force or vital energy, and pranayama is a way of building and directing this vital energy.
Anatomy and physiology will be studied in great detail. Students will study the nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, lymphatic system, endocrine system, digestive system, musculoskeletal system, immune system, the genitourinary system, and the spine.
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of natural medicine and healing that enhances the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit.
The ashram is located in a very peaceful residential neighborhood in Varkala. The land bears many fruit trees including coconut palms, jackfruit, papaya, banana, guava, and cashew trees. The property is located less than a 5 minute walk to the beach, yet far enough to remain peaceful and quiet away from the tourist zone.

Participants who are staying at the ashram will enjoy three freshly prepared sattvic vegetarian meals per day. Please note no meals are served on Sundays, as many students venture out on their day off and prefer to eat outside.

You can choose to book a train ride from Trivandrum to Varkala, followed by a quick tuk tuk ride to the ashram. The journey should take around one hour.
