You have the choice of either the 8-bed dorm, a shared round house bungalow with twin beds, or private accommodation in a queen room. Shared round house and queen rooms have private bathroom attached.

Shared Round House

The shared round houses have two beds and come with their own attached bathroom. Fans keep things cool from the high ceilings, bedside shelves provide a place for your personal items, and electrical sockets and reading lights for each bed invite you to read that next chapter. All this and the most comfortable mattresses around!

Queen Room

The queen rooms include a queen-sized bed and come with their own attached bathroom. Fans keep things cool, bedside shelves provide a place for your personal items, and electrical sockets and reading lights for each bed invite you to read that next chapter. All this and the most comfortable mattresses around!

Dorm

There are two dormitories which each sleep 8 comfortably with storage for your bags and items under the custom-built wooden bed frames. Dorms have shared bathrooms and showers located nearby. Fans keep things cool from the high ceilings, bedside shelves provide a place for your personal items, and electrical sockets and reading lights for each bed invite you to read that next chapter. All this and the most comfortable mattresses around!

Program

Meditation and yoga program

You will practice breath awareness (Anapanasati) as a meditation practice, but retreat participants are welcome to practice in their own personal style that suits them. Simple, grounded guidance and spiritual teachings are offered to support this meditation practice and also the practice of Life.

For yoga, generally, your morning practice is dynamic and invigorating, varying between Hatha and Vinyasa with other elements mixed in. Your afternoon practice is generally a gentle slow flow, restorative, or yin style designed to be meditative and balance the morning class. Beginner yogis, as well as experienced practitioners, are welcome! The teaching style integrates all students in multi-level classes. Teachers will offer options for those with injuries and limitations, and also for those who want to build fire while taking their practice to the next level.

It is important to note that you will spend more time on yoga than on meditation and that this retreat is not a replacement for a dedicated silent meditation retreat. Beginner meditators are warmly welcomed here, however, please be advised that meditation success is not guaranteed in 6 short days!

Digital detox

While on your retreat, you are asked to observe a digital detox. This is a special opportunity to move your attention away from the outer world more towards your inner world. This allows you to connect deeper with yourself, the other participants, and the retreat program. While some may have initial resistance to being “disconnected” for a few short days, the overwhelming feedback at the end of the retreat is a universal appreciation for the detox.

If you have some urgent need to connect, staff can give you a short hotspot. Suan Sati understands that some people have family issues that require attention or other urgent business. They just ask that any device usage is done away from other guests so as not to distract them from their digital detox.

Daily workshops and activities

Each day, Suan Sati offers workshops on topics such as alignment, philosophy, bodywork, pranayama, connection, kirtan. and movement/dance.

Guided discussions and journaling

Each morning, guests will be invited to participate in a group discussion and journaling prompts to check in with themselves and to process their journey.

Sample of daily schedule

Suan Sati has intuitively designed a schedule that allows ample time to connect with a variety of engaging classes and workshops, while also building in time to reflect and relax alone as needed. We ask that all guests make a commitment to attend every morning and afternoon yoga and meditation session. Outside of that, the rest of the schedule is optional. Let your heart guide you to the workshops, hammocks, or long walks alone that make your retreat experience exactly what you need.

Food

The food provided is 100% plant-based Thai favorites, with a hearty breakfast of super foods and tropical fruits to start your day off right. The food philosophy is simple. Suan Sati only serves fresh, whole foods, plant-based (vegan) meals prepared with organic vegetables sourced locally or grown in its garden. Suan Sati exercises complete control over exactly what goes into the food and into the bodies, and they invite you to peek into their open air kitchen to see the process.

At Suan Sati, they never use MSG, palm oil, processed white sugar, or high fructose corn syrup. They minimize their use of processed foods, preferring to make their own curry pastes, peanut butter, and organic soy milk. This takes a little bit more time, but it adds a lot of extra love to the food that they prepare, and you can taste the difference.

The Thai master chef has over 30 years of cooking experience, including 10 years teaching Thai cooking. She prides herself on simple, clean, home-style Thai cooking with authentic taste, while remaining committed to keeping the kitchen organic and healthy. Who knew that vegan Thai food could taste so delicious?

The menu is always changing, but you can expect a typical breakfast to include a ‘make your own’ vegan breakfast bowl of local fresh cut fruit, oatmeal, muesli, coconut and soy milk, and an assortment of nutrient dense superfoods like chia seeds, cashews, homemade peanut butter, goji berries, ground flaxseed, cinnamon, sesame seeds, raisins, and psyllium husk. Healthy raw green smoothies are available upon request.

All this and locally grown gourmet coffee and tea make sure that you’re wide awake after that deep savasana. Lunch at Suan Sati is a light affair, with raw green or Thai salads, soups, and fresh seasonal fruit. Dinners feature plenty of Thai food like stir fry and curry, but a constantly rotating menu that you never want to miss what the chef is whipping up.

The garden is over half an acre and completely organic. That means no chemicals and no GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms. The crops are always rotating, but they regularly grow a variety of salad greens, kale, tomatoes, cucumbers, chilies, galangal, turmeric, beans, sprouts, and pumpkins in their garden, which is only two meters from the kitchen. Farm to table has a very literal meaning at Suan Sati.
