The yoga

Mixing up detoxifying dynamic sequences with longer held poses, the yoga classes will be modified to suit all levels of yogis , so you will enjoy a mix of styles and experience. Over the weekend we will explore all manner of poses, pranayama and meditation techniques, culminating in a soothing yin yoga session on the Sunday. As a rule, morning classes will be more dynamic and evening classes more restorative.

There will also be the option of a 1 hour yoga workshop on a topic of the guest's choice - be it yoga philosophy or arm balances. Yoga and meditation will take place in the communal 'straw bales' building, which has wooden floors and a wood burning stove. Yoga will be taught by Charlie Anderson - a 500 hr BWY qualified teacher with a captivating yoga practice and bags of knowledge and passion for yoga philosophy. The 9-11 September retreat will be taught by Polly Mason, an incredibly inspiring and nurturing vinyasa flow, yin and restorative yoga teacher with an infectious enthusiasm for all things yoga and wellbeing.

The extra wellbeing experience

On Saturday, you will walk to the top of Leith Hill, the highest point in South East England for 360-degree views of Surrey, and sometimes even London and the South Coast. In the evenings, you will indulge in some outdoor cooking and toast some marshmallows and even bust out a few campfire songs around the fire pit!

Charlie Anderson Sumner

Charlie is a 500hr qualified yoga teacher, mother of two and freelance fashion stylist. Charlie also teaches yoga and glamping retreats in Surrey. She took her first yoga class in her late teens while living in London. Her practice continued and developed by taking classes through most of her twenties until a desire to study more deeply hit her.

She embarked on a year long British Wheel of Yoga foundation level (taught by the inspirational Lyn Core), a wonderful course of deep practice and self study. Her intention was to follow on this course directly with a teacher training but fate found her pregnant with her second child and Lyn choosing to lead a Foundation level 2, a rarely taught but oh so valuable course that Charlie was so privileged to have received.

Ceri Jones

Ceri Jones, a resident Natural Chef combines her passion for healthful food and nutrition with a love of cooking, exploring new recipes with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and teaching.

In 2014, Ceri completed her professional training as Natural Chef at Bauman College of Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts near San Francisco, and returned to London. She now works as a freelance instructor, specialising in conscientious sourcing, careful preparation and mindful consumption of healthful foods. She runs her own public workshops and works with clients on a 1:1 or small group basis. She also works as a food and recipe writer and chef.

Since establishing her flourishing career, Ceri has worked for Blackheath Cooks, Made In Hackney, The Shoreditch Trust, College of Naturopathic Medicine, Retreat Caf, and has published many works online and offline. She is writer of the whole foods blog Natural Kitchen Adventures, and was thrilled to win a highly commended place in the health category at the UK Blog Awards in April 2015.

In 2015 Ceri was appointed as Course Director on the new Natural Chef course at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London. Ceri will manage and lecture on parts of the course.

All meals will be lovingly prepared by Ceri Jones (aka Natural Kitchen Adventures). A certified Natural Chef, Ceri cooks with whole foods naturally devoid of gluten and refined sugar. You will enjoy an abundance of colourful and nutritious vegetarian food and we guarantee you will not go hungry. What's more, you'll have the opportunity to try your hand at some healthy cooking with a cooking workshop with Ceri on the Sunday. Ceri is always happy to chat the breeze on all things food and nutrition and sends many of our guests home feeling utterly inspired to try out new recipes.

Treat yourself to a pampering facial or massage or both with one of the wonderful holistic therapists in one of the cozy shepherd's huts on site. Treatments incur an extra cost of 25 GBP for 30 minutes or 40 GBP for 60 minutes and will be scheduled in free time over the weekend.

Some people come on yoga retreats craving some down-time and simply want to spend their free time snoozing or reading in the bath, whilst others want a non-stop itinerary of activities. Stretching the City tries to cater for both, offering additional activities such as a guided countryside walk, raw chocolate making, pampering treatments (facials and massages) and cooking workshops. The effects from each session last for days and you can really tell when you miss one, luring you back to class every week!"

"I just wanted to thank you for a fabulous weekend in Sussex. I thoroughly enjoyed everything, but Polly’s yoga and Ceri’s food made it super special! I am super fussy about my yoga, so it is always a bit of a risk trying out a new teacher, but Polly was amazing. Such a joy to find someone who knows what they are doing and can teach it really well. The food was superb, as I knew it would be! I have not eaten so well for a long time, says the nutritionist."
