Ger camps are a traditional style of hotels in the country. Ger camps usually consist of seven to 20 comfortable gers containing two to four beds each. It is a cylindrical tent made up of wooden lattice structure and covered with waterproof wool, felt, or other protective materials.

Ger has one door and two main support poles in the middle which are attached to a roof and stove. Ger camps often have restaurants and souvenir shops or some entertainment spaces, and most camps are equipped with toilets and showers facilities.

Selenge Baatartsogt
Selenge was born in a small town called Khuder, in the northeast of Mongolia. She moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2010 and the beautiful country provided her with many challenges. During this time, she discovered yoga, a practice that she has fallen in love with and has helped her through many difficult times. The passion that she feels for yoga led her to embark on teacher training in Indonesia and India, and from there, she created the Steppe Yoga tour that she ran for the first time in Mongolia in 2014.

Retreat location

This yoga retreat will take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Mongolia is one of the few countries in the world that has preserved its ancient culture, and this is evident in the 20 ethnic groups that reside all over the country. The majority of land is still owned by the government, which means there are no private properties or fences after you leave the city. Once you enter the countryside, you are free to explore and camp anywhere you please.

Across this yoga tour, you will be discovering Central and Western Mongolia’s beauty. The main highlight of this tour is attending the Golden Eagle Festival, also known as Eagle Hunting Festival or the Burgediin Bayar, a festival that is uniquely Mongolian and unparalleled in the world. Eagles have been used by the nomadic Kazak people of the Ulgii Provence for centuries.

Steeped in Mongolian culture and tradition this festival will allow you to experience part of Mongolia that is remarkably different to the rest of the country. After the festival, you will have a chance to explore the stunning Western Mongolian Altai mountain ranges, picturesque glaciers, lakes, ancient rock paintings, and breathtaking mountains.

Before heading out to Western Mongolia for the festival, you will get a taste of Central Mongolia where you will witness the wild Przewalski horse and some other famous Mongolian landmarks in stunning national parks.
