There are three room options available at the new, purpose-built yoga teacher training center on Koggala Lake. The first option is to stay in one of the 5-bed shared room. These huge rooms overlooking the lake are nothing like the dorms you have slept in in the past. They are more than spacious and give heaps of space to hang out, study, and of course have a massive lakefront balcony. The bathrooms have been set up to accommodate this number of people so you won’t be waiting for a sink!

The second option is one of the twin share rooms. These generous sizes rooms look over the lake and are the perfect fit for you and one of your new yoga buddies. They have an oversized indoor/outdoor bathroom, and two showers and sinks! So you’ll never be waiting for you buddy to finish up before you jump in. These rooms are for those who want a little more space, but still want to share their experience with one other either new or old friend.

The last and most luxurious option is to have your very own private room. The private rooms are hidden underground facing the lake at the front of the property. They are completely unique, very private, and truly in nature. That doesn’t mean they are without luxury as they are bloody lovely! Brand new, these rooms offer you a sanctuary all for yourself for the duration of the training.

‘A New Yoga’ online course

As soon as you sign up for the training, you’ll get access to the 25-hour online course called ‘A New Yoga.’ This course is the perfect starting point for your study as it introduces the topics, themes, and practices perfect to prepare you for the in person training. You’ll also get an insight into how Stefan teaches classes and runs lectures, so it won’t be a surprise when you start. You will have lifetime access to this course and the classes that go with it.

Asana, alignment, and movement

Stefan Camilleri Yoga's approach to asana and alignment is a fusion of Iyengar yoga, yoga synergy, and a modern understanding of movement and modification. This means the asana practice is transformative while preventing injury. The yoga you will be learning to teach fits easily into all modern yoga settings while giving practitioners the maximum benefit. You will learn to communicate these ideas to your future students in a fun and transparent way.

Teaching methodology

In this course, you will learn to teach yoga practically and effectively. In the same way that Stefan Camilleri Yoga teaches you, you will learn how to read bodies and react to your students' subtle cues. You will learn to adapt and improvise on the fly while leading a fun and enjoyable class.

Applied anatomy and physiology

Stefan Camilleri Yoga teaches applied anatomy. Since the subject is so complex, you focus your attention on what is most relevant to teaching yoga. You therefor focus on how the body works, and how it responds to the yoga practice. Lectures include; the systems of the body, the spine, connective tissue, how muscles work, a breakdown of the joint complexes and more. For those who already have an understanding of anatomy, you will go into relevant detail. While for those who are newer to the subject, you will focus just on what you need to know.

Class design

You will learn to plan adaptable, easy to recall classes that aren't too rigid. Stefan Camilleri Yoga believes in planning a theme, a peak pose and arranging the rest of the class in improvable blocks of time around this. For these blocks of time, you have room for improvisation, but also share with you some easy to remember sequences you can teach as well. With this method, your classes can thrive in any situation that arises.

Injury prevention

A real problem in modern yoga is the frequency and severity of injuries. Stefan Camilleri Yoga isn't afraid to talk about the risks of the practice, and within that discussion, show how you and your students can avoid these without compromising expression or enjoyment.

Yoga history

There will be discussions on the fascinating roots of modern yoga talking about what the word yoga means, its roots in Vedic India, and the fascinating story of yoga's evolution in the last hundred years. The origins and influences of modern yoga might surprise you.

Philosophy

The philosophy on the course is selected and delivered in a way to have maximum benefit to you in the real world. Considering ancient ideas from the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras, and other more modern texts; you talk about how these ideas can help you be better, happier people today. Beyond that, you will be exploring modern philosophy and the concept of developing emotional intelligence.

Meditation and mindfulness

There will be three focuses in your discussions on meditation. The first is to make meditation accessible, easy to understand, and easy to communicate for your future students. The second is for you to develop a daily meditation practice with a more profound technique so that you can enjoy its life-changing effects long into the future. And the last, is to work towards a state of mindfulness in which you can enjoy a more meditative mind in every moment.

Pranayama and the breath

The study of breath in yoga is called pranayama and will give two distinct outcomes. The first being that you will learn to take real control over your breath and breathe more effectively. The second is that you will learn how to use the breath to control the state of your mind. With pranayama, you will learn to find calm, to stimulate, and to direct your attention.

Healthy living

Yoga gives lessons on how to live a more meaningful and happy life. The exploration of communication ideas, philosophy, posture, emotional intelligence, and nutrition will all help you discover an improved version of yourself.

The yoga industry

If you are interested in breaking into the yoga industry, you will need the insider knowledge with the nuts and bolts, the dollars, and the cents. Stefan is not afraid to share with you what they know and help you set up your future yoga business. You will talk about business strategies, dealing with people of influence, branding, how to run your own retreat, and even how to best utilize social media and the internet to help you and your new business grow.

Sanskrit and mantra

Sanskrit is the ancient seed language of yoga, Hinduism, and Buddhism. In this course, you will learn about its origins, place in modern yoga, and even learn a few tricks to identify common names of postures and breathing exercises easily.

Retreat location

The locations for the teacher trainings in 2021 and beyond will be held at the purpose build venue on the beautiful Koggala Lake in Sri Lanka. Staying at the venue, Lanka Yoga, is like staying in a big yoga manor with your new yoga buddies. There is a beautiful and abundant veggie garden which supplies the place with veggies and spices all year round. There is a fruit forest which gives you mango, jackfruit, and soursop. There are different spaces to practice and relax all around the little property, with an infinity pool overlooking the amazing Koggala Lake. There’s no need to travel to national parks to see nature when staying there. From the view over the lake, you are treated to the sight of eagles, all sorts of lizards and birds, and the occasional crocodile, in the distance of course. All of this is available in a rural, village setting, with lots to see and do when walking or cycling around the area.

The concept is to create a venue that gives back to the environment rather than take. So they have incorporated green design and green technology to make sure this happens. First they avoided reducing the green space on the property and instead expanded it. They have an onsite water treatment plant, solar panels on their way, and the private rooms are even built into the ground to save on power usage for cooling. They love the environment and see it as their mission to protect and nurture what is here.
