Bungalows

Nestled in lush tropical landscaped gardens, The Vine Center has numerous spacious and comfortable bungalows. The bungalows have panoramic views of the jungle and are surrounded by flowered gardens. You can enjoy sitting on the balcony or relaxing in a hammock.

Each bungalow has a private bathroom with a hot shower, sofas, hammocks, 2 single beds or a Queen size bed for couples, and mosquito nets covering the windows and the beds. The staff members service the bungalows daily.

The venue also has one bungalow with two suites, each with a private bathroom and air-conditioner. One of the suites has a king-size bed which is for couples or private accommodation. The other suite is with two beds for up to two people. If you want an AC room, please request this option in the comments section of the application form.

Ayahuasca retreat participants are expected to share these double-occupancy bungalows. The sharing is part of the experience! Although, if desired, private bungalows are available at an additional cost. Please enquire.

Dormitory

Additionally, the retreat center has one mixed dormitory room which accommodates five people, where each bed has a mosquito net, private reading lamp, and space for your personal belongings. This comfortable and beautiful room has a large shared bathroom and it is situated next to the swimming pond and spa which has hammocks to relax.

Program

This retreat is open to people from all over the world independent of their faith or religion. All retreats include Ayahuasca ceremonies, yoga, workshops for spiritual development, group sharing integration, and 1-1 spiritual counseling if required. The Ayahuasca diet includes very balanced vegan meals. The venue has comfortable bungalows and dormitory accommodations surrounded by flower gardens and equipped with modern amenities.

Meditation and regression

Since the ayahuasca experience occurs in a modified state of consciousness, the spiritual insights, visions, symbolic messages, and communications received during the ceremonies can be difficult to comprehend in the ordinary day-to-day state of mind. Meditation training may help to create a mental space for the new visions and insights to sit more comfortably until the mind has time to fully incorporate all of the information received.

During the retreat, various meditation, workshops, and regression exercises take place. Although in the unconscious mind, time does not exist and everything is happening right now. Participants can re-visit past, future, or parallel lives and eventually unblock resources to reconnect with the power within.

Yoga

The ancient practice of yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that leads one to a state of peace. Within the journey of yoga, one may attain health benefits and spiritual awareness. The class is composed of pranayama (breathing exercises), asana (poses), mudra (energetic seals), and meditation. The state of presence attained through yoga allows the practitioner to feel calm, relaxed, and confident.

Spirit Vine Retreat Center offers non-compulsory yoga classes that are gentle and easy, with a beautiful flowing style; a great introduction for beginners, and deep relaxation for those with more experience.

If someone additionally would like private yoga classes, you can request this service.

Ayahuasca ceremonies

This 9-day retreat includes 4 Ayahuasca ceremonies and a range of other activities. The retreat is meticulously designed to give participants a balanced and deep experience to connect with their higher self, reconnect with their own power, and connect with nature.

The retreats include workshops that are carefully developed from a range of different modalities to give participants an immersive experience in spiritual development. The various activities are designed to integrate all the information and insights coming from the Ayahuasca experience as well as insights received during the week in workshops, sharing sessions, and group discussions.

The three ceremonies in this retreat will be held at night in the beautiful, purpose-built ceremony room in the jungle. You are protected from insects inside by mosquito nets, and outside, the symphony of sounds from the frogs, animals, and insects is the perfect backdrop to a night of spiritual discovery. Music is carefully chosen for the ceremony that supports, triggers, and guides the participant in their spiritual journey with the Ayahuasca vine.

The fourth ceremony is held in the morning and the intention is to connect with nature. After an hour, if the participants feel ready, they can go outside the ceremony room and walk around the gardens in the jungle, they can swim and float in the lagoon, and can also spend time in hammocks or watch the tapestries in the massage room.

The retreat will always have a facilitator in the ceremony room and outside in the area where the participants can walk to ensure safety and provide support when required.

Please note that the plant ceremonies are always optional; while it is recommended, it is not essential that participants attend all of the activities.

For those who are taking medicines that are incompatible with the ingestion of Ayahuasca, they can still participate in all the other activities.

Art

Art is one of the most powerful forms of expressing the spiritual realities and visions of ayahuasca. It can take participants on a journey of art as the expression of spirit.

There will be several art sessions during the retreat. Participants can look forward to discovering hidden resources and skills in visionary practices, expressing the divine through art and dynamic meditation.

Spirit Vine believes everyone is an artist and ayahuasca inspires the artist within to emerge. No prior artistic experience is required.

For many Spirit Vine retreats, the late Peruvian shaman-artist Pablo Amaringo, guided participants in the expression of their own symbolic language as a tool for higher-self awareness and inter-dimensional communication.

Spirit Vine encourages participants to bring art supplies that they would normally feel comfortable using. If you are a beginner then bring some drawing quality paper, pencils for sketching and coloring, crayons, and watercolors. A medium-sized sketchbook would be ideal.

Workshops

The workshops aim to teach tools to participants to help prepare for the Ayahuasca experience and to apply the proper techniques to understand the purpose and spiritually heal the events that may have caused blockages. In this way, the participant has the ability to reconnect with their own power and recover pieces of their soul that were fragmented and trapped in this situation.

The workshops may include different subjects such as:

  • Realigning with your Higher Self
  • Meeting your Inner Child
  • Past Life Regression
  • Future Life Progression
  • Soul Retrieval
  • Energy Extraction
  • Spirit Releasement
  • Parallel Realities
  • Visionary Art Explorations
  • Yoga sessions
  • Guided meditations / visualizations
  • Group sharing

Preparing for the Ayahuasca retreat

Preparing yourself for Ayahuasca is essential and you should start as early as possible to get the most benefit from your ayahuasca experience.

Traditional practices along with recent scientific discoveries have shown that certain foods and substances are contra-indicated for the type of spiritual practice that we will be engaged in. These foods increase the probability of purging, nausea, headache, or increased heart rate, and in some cases may also be dangerous for your health. This is due to the chemical composition of ayahuasca which contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) that cannot be combined with certain other foods.

Additionally, being clean prior to the ceremony will facilitate a deeper process. Ayahuasca has purgative properties, it helps cleanse you at many levels. If you are clean at the physical level with the help of the diet, it will allow you to go to deeper levels of cleansing at the emotional, psychological, and spiritual levels.

Retreat location

Itacare is a small town located on the south coast of the Bahia state. Originally, Itacare was a fisherman's town. The first visit makes it seem like many other small coastal towns, but dig deeper and you will find a multi-layered microcosm of everything that makes this world a beautiful place. White sandy beaches, pure, unadulterated nature, gorgeous people, delectable food, tranquility, and most importantly, sunshine and awesome waves.

Whether body surfing in the warm ocean water, riding a barrel, or practicing yoga on the beach, Itacare attracts adventure seekers, eco-enthusiasts, and urban dwellers alike. Rent a canoe and take a bath in the waterfall in Conta River, scuba dive in Marau, or surf on Engenhoca beach (five minutes driving from Spirit Vine Retreat Center).

Stop by the artisans in Itacare and buy some presents. Dine at one of the many eateries serving local and international cuisine. After dinner and before dessert, stop by the Jungle to watch capoeira and perhaps even participate. Dance with people from all over the world on the cobble-stoned streets.

Itacare is quiet during the day but after the sun sets, the streets start to come alive.

Do not forget to try the typical Bahian specialty called Acaraje and Moqueca at least once before you return home. You can drink an Aai smoothie or a Cacao honey here too.

The Spirit Vine Ayahuasca diet

Spirit Vine recommends that you follow a healthy lifestyle every day but during the Ayahuasca retreat, they have additional restrictions such as no salt, sugar, strong spices, or fermented foods. Using the latest research on nutrition and balanced diets, Spirit Vine follows a special Ayahuasca diet during the retreats that are optimized for the ceremonies, including tasty vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and GMO-free options. The dietary recommendations include a period of time before and after the retreats.

The delicious meals served are prepared by the cooks using fresh and organic produce from the retreat center and surrounding areas where possible. The freshwater well in the center provides the retreat center with drinking water free of fluoride and other additives. Other options include organic coconut water from the land, fresh lemonade and fruit juices, and a variety of teas.

The retreat will provide a balanced vegetarian diet with gluten-free and vegan options, without sugar, salt, meat, or alcohol.

  • Salt-free and delicious - while the food is salt-free, the kitchen team uses herbs and spices to make delicious meals every day
  • Dairy replacements - such as spreads and milk made with cashew nuts, cassava, almond
  • Sugar replacements - such as coconut sugar which has a low glycemic index, xylitol, or stevia
  • Fresh local produce from the center’s own garden - where possible, the fruits and vegetables which visitors eat are grown on the center’s grounds and sourced from local organic farms
  • Homemade bread and cakes - prepared fresh daily: dairy-free, gluten-free, yeast-free, and egg-free
  • Fresh water from the center’s well - pure and free from any additives
  • Fresh fruit juices - fresh coconut water from our land, lemons, and other low glycemic fruit is grown on the center’s land
  • Local delicacies - The chefs also prepare local foods from the region which are highly appreciated by previous participants

Most people feel healthier after an Ayahuasca diet, some people even lose weight although this is not the focus, nor a guaranteed outcome.

If you are unfamiliar with vegan and vegetarian cooking with herbs and spices, there are numerous recipes and cookbooks available online to help you get started. This is also a very good way to connect with yourself and your body.
