The dormitory-style accommodation for 5 people is situated next to the pond. This comfortable and beautiful space has a large shared bathroom.
The night time ayahuasca ceremonies take place in the beautiful temple overlooking the lush gardens and lake. It forms a large, octagonal space with a huge cathedral-like ceiling made from natural materials and is embraced by jungle. The energy of the forest is powerful and enchanting with the background symphony of nature sounds.
A floral landscaped pond that lies at the heart of the garden which is a natural home for hummingbirds, delighting those who choose to relax or swim in the pond. The perfect place to reflect on nature and daydream in the natural spring-fed water.
Next to the pond is a large deck that surrounds the massage room, which is like a small temple, half immersed in the jungle. Many jungle paths wind their way further into the retreat grounds.
The dining area sits up to 20 people comfortably and is an open terrace overlooking the rain forest from the large deck.
Some of the daytime and nighttime activities take place in the cozy living area which features large couches, a library and audio visual center that includes projector, sound system, DVD player, and laptop for power point presentations. Internet WiFi is also available.
In addition to the exercises to access and work with your inner being, this retreat also includes:
Since the ayahuasca experience occurs in a modified state of consciousness, the spiritual insights, visions, symbolic messages, and communications received during the ceremonies can be difficult to comprehend in the ordinary day-to-day state of mind.
Meditation training may help to create a mental space for the new visions and insights to sit more comfortably until the mind has time to fully incorporate all of the information received. During the retreat, various meditation, workshops, and regression exercises take place.
Although in the unconscious mind, time does not exist and everything is happening right now. Participants can re-visit past, future, or parallel lives and eventually unblock resources to reconnect with the power within.
The ancient practice of yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that leads one to a state of peace. Within the journey of yoga, one may attain health benefits and spiritual awareness.
The class is composed of pranayama (breathing exercises), asana (poses), mudra (energetic seals), and meditation. The state of presence attained through yoga allows the practitioner to feel calm, relaxed, and confident.
Spirit Vine offers non-compulsory yoga classes that are gentle and easy, with a beautiful flowing style; a great introduction for beginners and deep relaxation for those with more experience.
During this retreat, 3 ayahuasca ceremonies will take place at the Spirit Vine temple. Note that participation in these ceremonies is optional. The ceremonies at Spirit Vine are designed to optimize the ability of participants to relax deeply into their experience, connecting directly to source.
The ritual of ayahuasca ceremony is an ancient practice that has traditionally been performed by shamans in South America for many thousands of years. The ayahuasca ceremony is a powerful spiritual experience that opens the participant to a greater awareness of the essence of oneself in this realm.
The ceremonies at Spirit Vine are held at night in the beautiful, purpose-built temple inside the jungle, and beside a stunning lagoon. Outside the temple, the symphony of sounds from the frogs, animals, and insects at night is the perfect backdrop to a night of spiritual discovery.
Music is carefully chosen for the ceremony that supports, triggers, and guides the participant in their spiritual journey with ayahuasca. Music can often be a powerful medium for spiritual awakening and the music played at Spirit Vine are sublime soundscapes that allow the mind to expand into endless space where visions and feelings of cosmic awareness flow as rivers of consciousness.
Spirit Vine is a trans-denominational space that is designed to allow the participants to optimize their own inner spiritual processes and development through self-reflection and integration.
An instructor will work individually with each participant before and during the retreats to ensure they are ready and feel safe in the experience. During the retreat, the group process is very important and regular sharing circles are an intrinsic part of the reflective experience, which often lead to deeper understandings.
Spirit Vine Retreat Center grows its own ayahuasca vine and Chacruna plants and the tea is made here on the land with much loving care and attention. It is devoted to ayahuasca and the spirit of the plants permeates through the land and everywhere in the center.
Silvia is a licensed clinical psychologist. She co-founded the Spirit Vine Retreat Center, a space created to hold retreats for those interested in spiritual pursuits. Spiritvine.net and the Spirit Vine Retreat Center were previously known as ayahuasca-healing.
Silvia received her license in clinical psychology in 1983 and had a private practice in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 20 years until she began to feel the need to make a transition from studying and healing the mind to exploring the worlds of spirit.
She has also been involved in investigating modified states of consciousness for over 20 years, carrying out field research in Mexico with Mazatec shamans, as well as working extensively with ayahuasca, San Pedro, and other sacred plants in their native habitats.
Since 1996, Silvia has been hosting retreats in both the Peruvian and the Brazilian Amazon. At these retreats, participants have the opportunity to meet ancient teacher plants in their natural environment, the jungle.
From her extensive experience, Silvia has developed a unique style of ayahuasca ritual that is deep, safe, comfortable and supportive. She believes that the spirit of ayahuasca is the true teacher and the ceremonies at Spirit Vine are designed to optimize the ability of participants to relax deeply into their experience, connecting directly to source.
Silvia also hosts artists, teachers, authors, researchers and other experts such as Pablo Amaringo, Alex Grey, Zoe, Robert Venosa, Martina Hoffman, David Icke, Jonathan Ott, Rick Doblin, and many others. Many of the worlds leading authors and researchers in the field of consciousness studies join Spirit Vine retreats to share their latest research and wisdom.
Itacar is a small town located on the south coast of the Bahia state. Originally Itacar was a fishermans town. The first visit makes it seem like many other small coastal towns, but dig deeper and you will find a multi-layered microcosm of everything that makes this world a beautiful place. White sandy beaches, pure, un-adulterated nature, gorgeous people, delectable food, tranquility, and most importantly sunshine and awesome waves.
Whether body surfing in the warm ocean water, riding a barrel, or practicing yoga on the beach, Itacar attracts adventure seekers, eco-enthusiasts and urban dwellers alike. Rent a canoe and take a bath in the waterfall in Conta River, scuba dive in Marau, or surf in Engenhoca beach (five minutes driving from Spirit Vine Retreat Center).
Stop by the artisans in Itacar and buy some presents. Dine at one of the many eateries serving local and international cuisine. After dinner and before dessert, stop by the Jungle to watch capoeira and perhaps even participate. Dance with people from all over the world on the cobble-stoned streets.
Itacar is quiet during the day but after the sun sets, the streets start to come alive. Do not forget to try the typical Bahian specialty called Acaraje and Moqueca at least once before you return home. You can drink an Aai smoothie or a Cacao honey here too.
During the program, a special diet that is optimized for the ingestion of ayahuasca is followed. The Spirit Vine dietary recommendations include a period of time before and after the retreats.
The delicious meals served are prepared by the cooks using only local fresh products, and most of the organic fruits and vegetables are from the Spirit Vine garden. Every day, plenty of fresh vegetables, luscious fruit, salad, grains, and coconut water or fresh lemonade will be served.
The nutritionally balanced diet is gluten free, and without sugar, salt, meat, or alcohol. Only healthy spices to replace salt. It is not unusual that people lose weight and feel healthier after an ayahuasca diet, although this is not the focus, nor a guaranteed outcome.
Participants are suggested to start the diet, (which includes sexual abstinence) at least 3 days prior to arrival here at the Spirit Vine Retreat Center and recommend its continuation for at least 3 days after the retreat.
Some optional activities you may enjoy during your retreat at the Spirit Vine Retreat Center:
Silvia Polivoy has integrated a wide variety of multidimensional gifts including claircognizance, when the higher self or spirit guides put information (in the form of thought) into her mind. It can be a gut feeling or a whole body of information that is downloaded into the mind or it can be in the form of smaller insights about people and situations here and there.
Although her background is in clinical psychotherapy, she no longer offers this service. Her work now is totally spiritual in nature. She works predominantly in the realms of inner child core blockage transmutation, past life regressions, dream work, and re-connection with our inner power.
Condor is a budget airline flying to Salvador from or via Frankfurt 3 times per week, otherwise there are many other options. You are suggested to check with Edreams, Skyscanner, or Kayak.
TAM, Copa, United Airlines and many others fly to various destinations in Brazil from the USA. If you are only able to find flights to So Paolo or Rio de Janeiro, you will need to purchase a domestic flight from one of the Brazilian domestic airlines. Other booking websites recommended are Expedia, Webjet, and Skyscanner.
There are no direct flights from Australia or New Zealand straight to Brazil. You will most probably need to fly via Santiago, Chile or possibly Buenos Aires, Argentina, with an additional connecting flight in either Rio de Janeiro or So Paulo. LAN, Qantas, and Aerolineas Argentinas are the best options from Australia and you can often get a connecting flight included in your fare. You will also need to purchase a domestic flight from one of the Brazilian domestic airlines.
Kayak is also a good website to purchase internal flights as it may be difficult for foreigners to book directly with domestic airline.
The easiest way is to get to the Spirit Vine Retreat Center is to fly into Ilhus-Jorge Amado Airport (IOS). Spirit Vine Retreat Center is located 60 km north along the coast from Ilhus and it is an hour's drive directly from the airport. You can easily get flights to Ilhus from major Brazilian cities.
Airport transfer can be organized to pick you up directly from Ilhus Airport (IOS) and bring you straight to the Spirit Vine Retreat Center.
Some people also like to arrive via Salvador in Bahia, a bustling city thriving with culture and the old capital of Brazil. It is relatively easy to get a ferry and bus from Salvador or you can fly to Ilhus (40 minutes flight).
The Spirit Vine Retreat Center is around 6 hours from Salvador by road and ferry. From Salvador, you must cross the Bay of All Saints via the ferry boat which then connects with buses direct to Itacar. When you arrive on the ferry boat, you can book directly with the bus companies Aguia Branca and Cidade Sol.
"Sometimes in life, you need to do things that you're not entirely comfortable with. The things that stretch your comfort zones and remind you of your vulnerabilities. I felt like this when I arrived at Spirit Vine. I was nervous, with a heart full of confusion and desperate to reawaken from the spiritual slumber that had somehow crept upon me. The minute I arrived, I knew I was in the right place. Silvia, the group, and the glorious jungle, they all reminded me how beautiful the external world is, once you get to understand and appreciate the limitless one inside yourself. I have grown more in one week than I thought possible. I am still growing."

"Spirit Vine retreat was a beautiful and deep experience in many ways and levels. The place is absolutely magical and calming. It's easy to let go, be in the present moment, recognize, and remove obstacles that diminish your true potential and essence to manifest. Silvia has plenty of tools to help people to balance and decode their mental programming. That's also a key factor to develop consciousness in the long run. Her ways of working and being herself are something I haven't experienced before. I absolutely recommend Spirit Vine to everyone who is open minded and hearted to get to know her or his higher-self better. So for you reading this, follow your curiosity and be ready for multidimensional adventure. Thank you, Silvia."

"I can remember feeling strongly at the first ceremony at Spirit Vine that this is what an Ayahuasca experience is supposed to be like. The setting for an Ayahuasca ceremony is very important in my opinion. The peaceful and loving environment provided by Silvia and the staff removed all sense of anxiety from the Ayahuasca experience. The individual attention paid to each of the participants was amazing. Silvia and the other facilitators helped me before and after each ceremony to explore that that experience meant to me. The meditation classes helped me reach a new level of inner peace and higher-self realization. The food at the center was excellent. Being vegan, I was worried about the menu I would have to choose from. The staff was made aware of my dietary needs and happily made special (delicious) dishes just for me. I wanted a safe place to share the Ayahuasca experience with my wife in a warm and loving environment. Silvia and the Spirit Vine staff far exceeded all expectations we had. I would highly recommend Spirit Vine retreats for anyone interested in exploring the wonders of Ayahuasca and their higher-self. Thanks Silvia for sharing your paradise with us."

"I find myself repeatedly coming back to the quote from Einstein, the most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed. I am still taken with the profound sense of gratitude I feel towards all participants in the December 2011 retreat. Most obviously, to Sylvia as what has been accomplished at The Vine Center is astounding. I respectfully disagree with how the website identifies the temple as where the ceremonies take place. I view all of The Vine Center as a temple, complete with a spectacular ceremony hall. As I walked around, swam in the lagoon, and shared wonderful meals with fellow travelers, I was constantly struck with how it was all sacred ground. Complimented by sacred music during the ceremonies, hats off again to the DJ!"
