Ayurveda has historical roots in India and is the oldest continuously practiced health care system in the world. Its goal is to teach how to attain optimal health through a deeper understanding of your own particular nature in relationship to the surrounding environment.
The state of Kerala is a hot spot for Ayurveda, and if you would like, there will be many opportunities to explore services such as Ayurvedic massages. While this retreat focuses heavily on yoga, there will be some workshops on Ayurveda to give interested guests a basic understanding of the practice.
During the first day, after your arrival to the Cochin International Airport (COK) at Kerala, transportation will be provided to the Anamika Ayurvedic Heritage Resort in Varkala. You will have most of the rest of the day free to relax and unwind from the journey. During your stay at Varkala, all included classes will be held on site at the Anamika Heritage Resort.
During the second day, at sunrise, you will enjoy a one-hour gentle yoga class with meditation. Due to jet-lag, many guests may find it easy to wake up with the sun. After breakfast you will have most of the day free to relax by the pool, stroll along Varkala Cliff, or enjoy the sea. During the afternoon there will be a moderate yoga class. The evening workshop will be a guided relaxation meditation.
During the third day, you will enjoy a sunrise yoga class and morning meditation with optional essential oils. During the mid-afternoon, Jessica will lead an aroma yoga and meditation workshop. The evening workshop will be an introduction to Ayurveda.
During the fourth day, you will enjoy a morning yoga and meditation session. In the afternoon, you will travel to Varkala town to visit the Janhardhana Swami Temple. You will also have time to walk around and shop in the Varkala town center.
During the fifth day, you will enjoy a morning yoga and meditation session with optional essential oils. In the afternoon yoga class, participants will have the option to continue to use with essential oils in their practice. You will have the evening free to spend as you wish. The dinner will be provided at the local Abba Restaurant.
During the sixth day, you will enjoy a morning yoga practice followed by an optional day trip to Amritapuri, Amma’s Ashram. You will have an afternoon yoga practice and an evening workshop: "Incorporating Ayurveda into your life".
During the seventh day, you will gather at dawn with the group for pranayama and meditation then walk down the cliff together to the temple on the beach to experience the morning ceremony. You will have an afternoon practice, followed by an evening workshop: "Yoga Poses Practice By Request", where you will have a chance to requests poses to break down and work on.
During the eighth day, you will enjoy a morning and afternoon yoga practice and, for this last night in Varkala, you will have dinner at Clafouti Restaurant.
During the ninth day, you will enjoy a morning yoga class and then you will say goodbye to Varkala and travel to Alleppey to catch a private houseboat excursion through the backwaters, the lunch will be provided on board. The houseboat journey will conclude at the luxurious Kumarakom Lake Resort where you will enjoy meandering pool villas which have access to the winding pool right from their back door. You have the rest of the day free to enjoy this enchanting resort.
During the tenth day, you will enjoy a morning yoga class. Upon check out, you will be transferred to Fort Kochin for the final tour night at the Kochin Spice Fort. This visit to Kochin coincides with the KochinMizuris Biennalle, an art exhibition that fills the streets and many buildings with art from around the world.
The Spice Fort Hotel is located in the heart of Fort Kochin, right in the midst of the Kochin-Mizuris Biennalle, and near tourist attractions such as the Chinese Fishing Nets and the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica. An afternoon yoga class will be provided at the hotel. The tour will conclude with a farewell dinner at a restaurant in the fort.
During departure day, transportation will be provided to the Cochin International Airport (COK) for whenever your flight departs.
