Treat yourself to a delicious balance of luxury and down to earth Caribbean vibes on the tranquil island of Nevis, West Indies. Enjoy beachfront accommodation, two yoga offerings daily, healthy local food, a back-door local cultural experience, daily guided adventures, and a chance to participate in some unique offerings, such as the Yoga Diver Specialty Course and Learn to Dive experiences. The holiday is led by Yoga/Meditation instructor and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Amanda Parr. Packages are available for both divers and non-divers.
You will stay at Oualie Beach Resort, a small, three-star family-owned eco-friendly hotel located on a tranquil swimming beach overlooking the scenic channel between Saint Kitts and Nevis. Rooms are spaciously scattered along Oualie Bay in single and two-story gingerbread cottages that reflect the traditional Caribbean architecture of the island.
Oualie captures the charming, idyllic, rustic beach life with all the comforts of home, like TV, A/C, and refrigerator. The cottage-style rooms are complete with a screened-in patio where you can listen to the sea, the crickets, the geckos, and maybe even the clip-clop of a passing donkey during the tranquil evenings.
There is a restaurant, bar, dive shop, bike and kayak rental, and yoga room on the property, so you don’t have to travel far to get what you need. Water taxis operate on a regular schedule from Oualie Beach pier, only five minutes away from Reggae Beach on the neighboring sister island of Saint Kitts.
Amanda, the founder of SoulScuba, is a yoga and meditation instructor and master scuba diver trainer who lives in paradise. She wants to invite you for a down to earth, back door experience of her tranquil little Caribbean island and treat you to a week of self-care and adventure! During your stay, you will be guided through a unique variety of yoga offerings that aim to limber the body, improve breath control, relieve tension and pain, boost metabolism, detoxify the system, and strengthen the body-mind connection.
The central theme of all of these offerings is mindfulness. You will learn techniques to help you anchor yourself in the present moment and let go of the stress, worries, and other distractions that prevent you from living a peaceful and fulfilling life. You will be continually guided to carry the awareness you cultivate on the mat out into your world as you approach some relaxing and fun island activities (island road trips, rainforest hikes, vegan barbecues, and beach bonfires) as ongoing mindfulness meditation.
Certified scuba divers have a unique opportunity to participate in the PADI Yoga Diver specialty, with Amanda, the original course author. Non-divers have the opportunity to try scuba or earn their PADI open water certification while learning Yoga concepts to enhance relaxation, buoyancy, and air consumption.
Each day will start with a 90 minute Hatha Yoga practice in the indoor, beachfront yoga room only a few steps from where you sleep. Following (inclusive) breakfast in the resort restaurant, Amanda will invite you on a unique daily adventure, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, or an island road trip. Of course, you can always choose to take it easy and enjoy the beautiful beach right outside your room instead.
A second yoga offering will be available in the late afternoon/early evening. Evening classes typically consist of a relaxing Yin style followed by Yoga Nidra deep relaxation in the yoga room, but on some days you will enjoy a special outdoor offering, such as Sunset Beach Yoga, Volcanic Hot Springs Yoga, or Laughter Yoga. Your host Amanda is also an experienced scuba diving instructor and specializes in teaching yoga to scuba divers to help enhance relaxation, focus, air consumption, buoyancy, and overall enjoyment of the dive experience.
In addition, fun dives throughout the week, certified divers have the unique opportunity to participate in the original PADI yoga diver distinctive specialty course, authored by Amanda. Non-divers have the opportunity to participate in an introductory try-dive experience or complete their PADI open water diver certification.
Not interested in diving? No worries, there is plenty to do in Nevis without getting wet. Remember, this is your vacation! All itinerary offerings are optional. The great thing about this style of a yoga retreat is that there is no rigid schedule and plenty of space for flexibility and personalization. Group sizes are kept small for a relaxed and intimate experience.
Amanda, founder of SoulScuba, is a certified yoga instructor, PADI master scuba diver trainer, and author and the of the original Yoga Diver course, a first of its kind PADI course fusing yoga with scuba diving. Amanda's classes are gentle enough for beginners and yet also aim to challenge experienced practitioners. With a foundation of mindfulness meditation, conscious breathing, and Hatha balance, yogis of all levels are coaxed into a deeper state of awareness, where steadiness of body and stillness of mind can be achieved both on and off the mat.
Never heard of Nevis? That is not a bad thing. In fact, that is one of the things that makes this place so nice! Not everyone has heard of it (yet), so it is still possible to have an authentic island experience without getting lost in the tourist traffic!
Nevis, the smaller, quieter sister island of Saint Kitts, is only 36 square miles with a population of 12,000 people. With no cruise ship port and just the right amount of development, Nevis is the perfect little off the beaten track place to relax and dedicate some time to mind-body wellness.
Nevis offers an ideal atmosphere for those who love nature. A dormant volcano and lush rainforest rest at the center of the island, while the outer edges are fringed with both white and black sand beaches, old sugar plantations, historical sights (such as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton), cool beach bars, and some excellent swimming, snorkeling, and dive sites.
A daily breakfast menu item from the Oualie Beach Resort Restaurant is included in your package price. Lunch and dinner are available at your own cost at the resort or try one of the many other premium restaurants or local options on the island. Oualie Beach Resort’s beachfront restaurant is known for local and international specialties, homemade local drinks and ice cream, and fresh seafood. Vegetarian and vegan options are available and Chef Gary Urbansky is always happy to cater to special dietary requirements.
Also included in the package is a vegan Rastafarian "Ital "meal and beach bonfire compliments of the taste of Fari on Pinneys Beach. Ital Food is clean and natural, full of power from mother nature. Cooked traditionally over coals in a clay Yabba, Ital is made with lentils, beans, fresh herbs/seasoning, and various local "provisions" (such as carrot, sweet potato, tania, dashie, eddos, pumpkin, green bananas, breadfruit), freshly grated coconut, and plenty of love, served in a calabash bowl with a coconut spoon.
Local “bush” tea is also served and Ras Derrick will also make some coconut oil over the fire and send you home with a sample! If you love the Ital food, regular meals are available throughout the week, a healthy, inexpensive, and local option.
