Join Sidewinding Travels on a truly African yoga experience. This 15-day tour will take you to some of the most beautiful locations in southern Africa including the Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon, the Drakensberg, Royal Natal Park, Swaziland, and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park.
Over the course of the 15-day safari tour, you will be staying in several fully-equipped game lodges. These are:
Revitalize your body and mind with daily yoga classes and guided meditations whilst experiencing the wild beauty of Africa. Talks on yoga philosophy and the Ayurvedic tradition will take you even deeper on your own yoga journey. Your tour is eco-friendly and you will get the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of nature and wildlife conservation work currently on-going in South Africa.
Welcome to South Africa. On arrival at O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), you will be met by your tour guide and yoga instructor. After formalities at the airport, you will travel the short distance to your overnight stop. Your overnight stop is situated outside the city and is teeming with wildlife. After check-in, there will be time to take a stroll on the property or go and enjoy a sundowner drink overlooking the lake. You will enjoy a welcome dinner in the evening. Your accommodation today is Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge.
You will start the day with a yoga session next to the lake. After yoga, you will have time to freshen up and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast. You will depart for Pretoria after breakfast. Pretoria is also known as the Jacaranda City, every year in spring, the city is covered in a blanket of purple flowers. Being the capital of South Africa, Sidewinding Travels will show you the sights of this wonderful city. You will visit the Voortrekker monument, Church square, and Union buildings.
You will have lunch in Pretoria (included) and then bid farewell and travel east to Mpumalanga Province, the place where the sun rises. You will spend two nights at a remote game lodge nestled in between the mountains. On arrival, you will check in to your accommodation. You will enjoy a traditional dinner overlooking nature and an evening guided meditation. Your accommodation is Hannah Game Lodge.
You will start the day with your yoga class surrounded by true nature. You will then freshen up and return for breakfast. Depart on a marvelous day ahead, today, you will be visiting the sights of the Panorama route. You will visit Blyde River Canyon, the largest in South Africa, three Rondawels viewpoint, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Lisbon Falls, God's window, and Pilgrims rest- historical mining town.
You will have lunch en route and return to your accommodation in the late afternoon. You will enjoy African hospitality and a delicious dinner. You will end your day with an evening guided meditation.
You will have your yoga session before breakfast. After breakfast, you will set off. Today, you will be following the route down the Drakensberg Escarpment. This route was used by the early transport riders. You traverse some scenic mountain landscapes so be sure to have your camera handy. Sidewinding Travels makes your way to Hoedspruit endangered species center, where you conduct a tour to learn more about the conservation of endangered animals.
You arrive at your accommodation, Timbavati Safari Lodge, in the late evening. Your accommodation tonight is on the outskirts of Kruger National Park. The property has dropped its fences with Kruger National Park, allowing for free movement of animals. You will enjoy a traditional dinner tonight around the fire (weather depending).
You will start the day with fresh coffee and rusks and then embark on an open vehicle safari into Kruger National Park. You will be searching for all the amazing creatures that call this their home. Maybe if you are lucky, you might even spot the big five. You have lunch in the park. In the late afternoon, you will return to your accommodation. A sunset yoga class is followed by a guided meditation. You will have time to freshen up for dinner, enjoy it, and share your experiences for the day.
You will have your yoga session before breakfast. You have a scrumptious breakfast before you depart. You will enjoy a traditional dance and show at Nyani Cultural Village and then head to the south to the tiny Kingdom of Eswatini. On completion of your border formalities, you will travel to the Ngwenya glass factory. This is a one of a kind factory, the only glass blowing in Southern Africa. The funds generated here are also given back to uplift the community.
You will travel the short distance to your overnight stop for two nights. The next two nights will be spent at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. You will be staying in traditional Swazi beehive huts and plenty of animals abound. You enjoy dinner overlooking a waterhole followed by evening guided meditation.
You will start the day with a yoga class in nature and then return to freshen up and have breakfast. After breakfast, you conduct a short walk where your knowledgeable guide will tell you more about nature, animals, and area. You will then have the afternoon free, where you can participate in many of the activities on offer (own account). Activities on offer include mountain bike - guided or unguided, traditional village, horse riding, and hikes. In the afternoon, you will have a guided meditation session and enjoy your last dinner in Swaziland.
You will have an early morning yoga session before breakfast. After breakfast, you will depart to your first stop which is at Swazi Candles. At the candle factory, only Swazi People are employed in making candles using their hands. Candles in all shapes and sizes are found here, from elephants, lions to hippos and rhinos. After the candle factory, you depart for South Africa. After crossing the border back into South Africa, you have lunch en route.
You will then drive the short distance to your overnight accommodation. You will be spending two nights in a secluded bush camp and enjoy dinner around the campfire and talk about the ancient principles of Ayurveda. You will fall asleep to the sights and sounds of the African bush in White Elephant Bush Camp.
You will set off on an early morning walk looking to find wild black rhinos, led by an experienced guide, who knows the area well. You will then return for your yoga session and have brunch (the combination of breakfast and lunch) and have some free time where you can relax by the pool, read a book, have a massage treatment, and so on. In the afternoon, you will set off on an afternoon safari to see what the area has to offer. You return and have dinner and evening guided meditation.
You will set off early to the famous Hluhluwe - Imfolozi Park, made famous by Dr. Ian Player and his fight for the rhinos. You will conduct a morning safari in this beautiful park and have breakfast in the park. On your return, you will travel to St Lucia on the shores of a massive lake, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Isimangaliso Wetlands Park was declared a World Heritage site due to its biodiversity.
The area is famous for hippos and crocodiles. You will have lunch in town and then check into your accommodation. In the afternoon, you will set off for a boat cruise on the lake to search for hippos, crocodiles, and amazing bird life. You will enjoy the evening guided mediation and dinner in town. At the end of the day, you will stay overnight in Elephant Lake Hotel.
You will have a morning yoga session overlooking the lake and then enjoy breakfast before you depart. Your next destination is the North Coast since you will spend the following night next to the beach and crashing waves of the warm Indian Ocean. You will enjoy lunch and have the afternoon to enjoy a swim or a stroll next to the ocean and dinner overlooking the ocean followed by a talk on yoga philosophy and guided meditation. Your accommodation is Greenfire Lodge Dolphin Coast.
You will have an early morning yoga session on the beach and then return for breakfast before departing inland. You are heading for the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and travel over the Natal Midlands with its rolling green grass hills. You will stopover at a small town, called Howick, where you admire the spectacular Howick Falls, and have lunch here. You will then head onto the Nelson Mandela Capture site where former president Nelson Mandela was arrested.
This area has deep roots in the freedom of the country. You will travel the distance to the mountains. The next two nights, you will spend in beautiful houses surrounded by the mountains. You will enjoy dinner at the restaurant and stay overnight in Aha Alpine Heath Resort.
You will start the day with a morning yoga session and then return for a scrumptious breakfast. You will head to the Royal Natal National Park. Here, you will enjoy a short walk to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by rocks and pools. You can enjoy a swim or take in the beauty and have lunch here. You will return to your accommodation and have some free time before a traditional barbeque for dinner.
After your yoga session, you will enjoy breakfast and leave the mountains and travel North. You will make some amazing photo stops along the way. You will cross into the Free State Province and its farmlands and have lunch before you make your way back to Gauteng. You will be spending one night close to Johannesburg and enjoy a farewell dinner tonight. Your accommodation is Zulu Nyala Country Manor.
You will start the day with yoga followed by breakfast. You will then head for Soweto, a sprawling suburb outside Johannesburg. It was the home of icons like Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. You are met by your local guide who will tell you the tales of the area and give more insight into everyday life here. You will visit Nelson Mandela's home, Hector Peterson memorial, Regina Mundi church, and Vilikazi Street. You have lunch at a local home before leaving for the airport and your flight home.
Trevor was an international professional dancer for 23 years during which time he was introduced to yoga and Pilates as part of his conditioning routine. He qualified as a comprehensively certified Pilates instructor over 10 years ago and as a yoga teacher thereafter. He is an experienced RYT 200 in Ashtanga, Hatha, and Yin yoga and is studying towards becoming an Ayurvedic practitioner. Trevor is passionate about health and physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He is an eternal student and is continually studying human movement, anatomy, and physiology.
