This 3-day retreat is aimed at restoring the connection to your soul, your innocence, yourself. Helping you to slow down, to have you look at life in childlike wonder, to help you stay in the moment and pay full attention to what is happening to you and around you. During this retreat, we will embark on a journey to recover our authentic self which might have gotten lost in our many and diverse experiences and our reactions to them.

Shuniya Yoga will create the silence in which we can hear our soul speak, the same way we could hear it so much clearer during our childhood. This way a new clarity about our purpose, our self, and our values can emerge and become our own North Star along our life’s journey. So that we can always act with confidence, effectiveness, and fulfill our highest destiny on our own terms. This workshop is open to both men and women of all ages and from all backgrounds.

Accommodation

During this retreat, you will be staying at Villa Varia, hosted by Prabhu Anand Kaur (Ingrid Klabbers). This villa is situated in a beautiful natural reserve close to the Pellenberg Hospital but is at the same time easily accessible from Leuven and Tienen. The energetic place which has come to exist here is described by others as a home, an oasis, and a place to find peace.

This place has come into existence very organically, both through the cooperation with Japjeet Rajbir Kaur Khalsa (who runs a three day retreat every four to six weeks) and through the Kundalini yoga level one training ran by Hari Krishan Singh.

You may choose to sleep in a yoga room or shared room.

Do you remember those long summer months from your childhood? Playing outside until it got dark, or until you heard your mother, together with all other mothers in the neighborhood, call you back in? Summers full of forest or seaside walks, getting up to no good with your friends, day trips on your bike, picking summer berries, ringing the neighbours’ doorbells just to run off before they open, building sandcastles, flying kites, lying in the grass studying the clouds to see what shapes we can discover, camping in a tent in the backyard? Chasing butterflies during the day, fireflies at night?

But more than what you did alone or with friends, do you remember your state of awareness during these childhood summers? As time stretched out endlessly without any school or work obligations? How you had all the time in the world? How you could be absolutely present in every moment? How boredom was a state of being that could spark the most brilliant and creative plans? How you absorbed every little detail around you, the smell of freshly mown grass, of flowers and bushes, the sun and breeze caressing your skin, the humming of bees and insects, the sound of a lawnmower a few gardens away, the sounds coming from the neighborhood?

Have you by growing up, by the pressures of work, family and daily life, by the relentless presence of digital and social media intruding in our lives, become estranged from this state of simplicity, of slowing down of just being? Have the sounds in your surroundings become something that unnerves you? Is your mind constantly reminding you of what still has to be done in the next moment, so that you can never be fully present in this moment right here? Have you lost some of the deeper contacts with that part of yourself, your soul, your innocence, yourself?

This 3-day retreat is aimed at restoring that connection, at helping you to slow down, to have you look at life in childlike wonder, to help you stay in the moment and pay full attention to what is happening within you and around you. You will enjoy delicious meals outside in the garden and will build a campfire in the evening.

Shuniya Yoga will help detoxify body and mind through a very pure sattvic diet and a social media detox and gently bring our awareness to patterns and habits that are keeping us trapped or addicted, to then use pranayama, kundalini yoga, meditation, yoga Nidra, and other yogic tools to release those patterns. All the while staying compassionate towards ourselves. Weather permitting, yoga and meditation will be practiced both indoors and outdoors in the park and the forest.

Japjeet Rajbir Kaur Khalsa
Japjeet Kaur is a full-time KRI and IKYTA-certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and teacher trainer for KRI. She has been teaching KY since 2008 in Belgium and in the UK. She has specialized in stress-management, burnout, depression, anxiety, addiction recovery, pre- and postnatal yoga, and men’s, women's, and relationships teachings. She is also a nutrition and health coach, life and yoga coach, and aroma and massage therapist. ThreeBestRated nominated her Shuniya Kundalini Yoga enterprise in October 2017 as ‘Best Business of 2017’ for Leicester, UK and awarded her their ‘badge of excellence’.

Food

During this retreat, every day, you will be served all vegetarian and mostly vegan, organic, and gluten-free meals made with fresh ingredients. You will also be served tea and snacks such as fruit, nuts, and homemade cakes. Prabhu Anand, the host of the Villa Varia, is a professional cook. If there are any food intolerance or allergies, you can let Prabhu Anand know well in advance. Bringing or preparing your own food is not allowed.

Explore Leuven

Leuven is one of Belgium's finest medieval cities and the oldest university town in Europe, with its university library serving as a landmark in the city. You can visit the world-renowned Grand Béguinage which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the renowned M-Museum.

Visit the Castle de Maurissens

The eclectic Castle de Maurissens is named after its noble patron dated back from 1916. Since 1949, the castle lies within the park property of the Catholic University of Leuven.

Visit the Saint Peter's Church of Leuven

Saint Peter's Church of Leuven is situated on the city's Grote Markt (main market square) right across the ornate town hall. It was built mainly in the 15th century in Brabantine Gothic style. The church has a cruciform floor plan and a 93 meter long low bell tower that has never been completed.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Brussels Airport (BRU).

Arrival by train

Villa Varia is eight kilometers away from Leuven railway station. From the airport, there is a direct train to Leuven station which takes only around 15 minutes.

You can also take a 24 minute train ride from Brussels Midi train station to Leuven station, while the Brussels North station is only a 15 minute train ride away.

Arrival by bus

You can take De Lijn bus 3 from Leuven station to the venue (Pellenberg Hospital).
