This culinary package allows you to savor the rich and varied cuisine of India and will teach you to recreate these tasty, nourishing recipes at home. It begins with an introduction to food and diet drawn from the principles of the ancient science of Ayurveda and from naturopathy, where the ultimate goal is to nourish, detoxify, and rejuvenate the body. Keeping up with the tradition of Shreyas Yoga Retreat, yoga related classes and spa treatments are included in the package.
Situated just one hour's drive from the Bangalore International Airport (BLR), Shreyas is a sprawling oasis of green. With only 12 cottages spread over 25 acres of landscaped greenery, water bodies, and organic gardens, guests are able to commune with nature and benefit from its healing power.
Shreyas is a seamless blend of the modern and the timeless, luxury and simplicity, indulgence and enlightenment. The private, serene, and 'simply' luxurious accommodation has been structured to make the guests feel like they are living in the lap of nature. The architecture and interiors are a confluence of traditional and the modern. Tiled roofs, antique doorways, and stone pillars give way to contemporary interiors and state of the art facilities.
The three poolside cottages overlook the signature antique-pillared entrance. Open your door and step out to an infinity pool surrounded by flowering frangipani trees, an outdoor heated Jacuzzi, and the central courtyard of the retreat. All cottages have ensuite bathrooms. The poolside cottages have King-size beds. The poolside cottages are wheelchair-accessible.
The garden 'tented' cottages, with a canopied roof, are spaciously scattered across the property surrounded by lush vistas of greenery. The garden cottages have en-suite bathrooms that open onto private walled courtyards. All cottages have a verandah in the front. Feel one with nature as you hear the sound of birds and the rustle of the coconut trees or watch the stars as you shower. These one bedroom garden tented cottage offer twin sharing or double bed configuration.
Both poolside and garden tented cottages are suitable for two adults. Two children under the age of eight can be accommodated free of charge (a mattress is provided). For guests who are very sensitive to sound or very light sleepers, the poolside cottages are recommended since the canopied roofs make these cottages less insulated to outdoor sounds.
The core of the package is the personalized cooking sessions where the guests get hands-on experience in learning the preparation of a wide variety of Indian dishes under the guidance of the executive chef of the retreat. The cooking process begins in Shreyas' organic gardens. You will be introduced to various plants, herbs, and vegetables and taught about their nutritional value and health benefits.
Over the course of seven days from each 90-minute classes, the guests learn the preparation of more than 40 dishes including breakfast items, main courses, juices, soups, salads, starters, gravies and curries, Indian breads, rice preparations, condiments, desserts, and herbal brews. You will also be given inputs on nutrition, the use of Indian spices, and on correct food combinations for optimal health and wellbeing.
Understanding that perhaps all ingredients will not be available when you return home, the chef will give you suitable substitutes for ingredients. The retreat also includes a session on holistic kitchen management where tips are given on storage of food ingredients, lengthening the shelf life of food ingredients, and tips to prevent spoilage of perishable items.
A field trip to a local vegetable market and grocery shops is also offered so that the guests get tips on choosing the right quality of vegetables and other ingredients. Shreyas focuses as much on the dining experience as on the food and no meal would be complete without the love and creativity that goes into setting the table and serving the food. For this reason, a session is dedicated to table settings and food serving suggestions to help the guest tread that extra mile to make food, truly 'Soul food'.

Traditional yoga classes at Shreyas are conducted by experienced instructors. It is based on both traditional Hatha yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. The teachers are unique, being steeped in ancient knowledge, and also trained in modern teaching methods. All classes are adapted for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Twice daily group classes and one meditation session are included in the stay for all guests. For those who wish to explore different aspects of the yoga practice, there are sessions teaching pranayama (understanding and regulating your breath), pratyahara (withdrawal or internalization of sensory inputs), dharana (concentration), and dhyana (meditation).
This retreat includes a visit to a nearby village, city excursion, or a shopping trip to Bangalore. You will also involve in a community exercise where you will be farming, cooking, and feeding a group of children at nearby village schools or orphanage.
Shreyas Retreat is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore near Nelamangala. There are many historical and spiritual sites in the surrounding areas.
Meals served at Shreyas are vegetarian and thoughtfully planned to complement the lifestyle you will be experiencing at Shreyas. Indian, European, Mexican, and Oriental cuisine is served at Shreyas. Shreyas is the only member of Relais and Chateaux in the world that serves a purely vegetarian menu and operates on a no alcohol policy. If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please inform Shreyas Retreat prior to arrival and they will be glad to oblige.

To improve the rejuvenating process, each person will be given three massages of 60 minutes per each massage. Massage options include Balinese, Swedish, Thai, aromatherapy, and Abhyanga.
