Syllabus

Personal asana practice

The program offers a strong foundation in traditional Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa flow yoga, concentrating on the correct alignments of the postures. In the class, you will practice traditional Hatha yoga in the morning time and take part at Ashtanga led classes in the afternoon.

Your teacher will guide you through the full primary series with modifications. In the practice, your teacher will constantly check your alignments, help you to deepen the postures and, if appropriate, adjust you in the postures.

Pranayama (breathing techniques)

From your first day, you will be encouraged to bring awareness to your breath. In traditional Hatha yoga and the other yoga styles, you will study the breath that initiates the movement from posture to posture. It is impossible to progress through the Ashtanga primary series without familiarity of the rhythm of your own breath, improving your focus. You will learn 7 pranayama techniques that will help you to lengthen your breath, increase your lung capacity and strengthen the nervous system.

This is an important aspect of yoga that is often overlooked as physical practice (asanas) takes precedence. Pranayama is a great way to alleviate stress and tension, something that is often endured in modern society. Pranayama practice will allow you to build mental and emotional strength to help you maintain a healthy sense of well-being, not just during the teacher training course, but in your everyday daily life. Tutorials will explain the theory accompanying these breathing techniques enabling you to practice effectively during guided classes.

Kriyas (cleansing) and mudras (energy seals)

Cleansing will clear the system and allow the breath to flow freely. You will learn 6 cleansing techniques on your course. Mudras will allow you to seal energy within the body. Again, tutorials will support the practice of both of these.

Anatomy of alignment classes

These classes will allow you to gain a deeper insight into the different yoga postures by looking in detail at the body mechanics of each and every posture. A clear understanding of the skeletal and muscular systems in a posture, in terms of its anatomical focus, is vital for teaching and practicing postures. The aim is that you build on prior knowledge of anatomy whatever level that may be and leave with a greater awareness of your own body and those of your future students.

During these classes, you will also focus on how to modify the different postures depending on the practice of your students. In addition, this class provides the opportunity for the instructors to really assist you with your individual practice on a personal level.

Teaching methodology

You will start to teach your peers during the third week of your training. You will instruct each other on a one-to-one basis and progress to devising and delivering your own lesson plan. Each week, the organizer will provide tools for you to develop your teaching skills, facilitating you to build your own yoga class that you will teach during the final week. Teaching methodology sessions include:

  • Opening a class
  • Sequencing
  • Instructions
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Corrections and adjustments
  • Modifications

The former students always find this a particularly memorable experience as the majority will teach for the first time. Participating in each other’s classes and providing constructive feedback for your peers is a great way to learn and supports our ethos that learning is sharing.

Hatha yoga

Most forms of yoga in the west can be classified as Hatha yoga. Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power yoga classes are all Hatha yoga. The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance. Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.

Yoga philopsophy

Classical yoga philosophy is interwoven throughout the program and you will be introduced to Patanjali’s yoga sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Hathapradipika. This class allows you to make your own comparisons of classical and contemporary yoga and pose the question, ‘what is yoga?’ These sessions are a great time for philosophical debate and indeed provided a welcome insight into the views of your fellow students.

Each yoga class will have an intention with a spiritual message that will allow you to understand how we can incorporate philosophy into practice. Hari will deliver a talk on yoga in Bhagavad Gita, a beloved Indian text from which many lessons can be learned.

"I had a great experience learning yoga from past one month. It was great learning yoga while doing TTC 200 at Shree Hari Yoga School in Gokarna. Before coming here I had never done yoga, doing 200 TTC was my new year resolution and wanted to change life style personally and professionally. "

    ""

"The program was intensive and multi style yoga (Hatya, Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga). Getting up 6:30 am in morning every day and finishing late evening wasn’t easy for me. After doing the course I have learned to be disciplined in life. I lost 6 KG, feel so fresh and now see the life in different angle and approach. The 200 TTC required complete focus, commitment, discipline and huger to complete course. First week will be very tough, then second week goes a bit easier and 3rd and the last week get tougher. The best thing about my class was we were only 5 people from different countries and it was great to share our experience, learn together and help each other where need. It was like a family. "

"Hari is best yoga teacher I have come across. He has great knowledge about the subject and have special skills in teaching yoga. Before starting the class, he know his students strengthen and weaknesses and accordingly he paces his class. His Ashtanga classes was the best experience I had. After the class one feel so fresh and relaxed and all positive waves comes in the mind. Another good thing about the TTC was, the classes been taught by various teachers. It was good learning to adapt different teaching techniques and styles from all teachers. They take care about each and every students and help them to develop with their own pace of learning."

    ""

"The location was great to learn yoga. Every day fresh air and the sound of waves was good for meditation. It felt like living in ashram or bamboo style of living. Gokarna is holy place and it was amazing to see so many people coming here from different countries for relaxing or to get peace of mind."

    ""

"So those who are really serious about practicing yoga and want to make it part of their rest of life. Then I recommend to do TTC 200 hrs from Shree Hari Yoga School. All the best :)"

"So happy to have found Hari in Bagsu!!! An Amazon dedicated teacher able to engage all practice levels in a single class without alienating anyone! My partner and I knew what we wanted when we started our search through all the (many many) potential teachers/schools in the area. We found it all in Hari, versatile, knowledgable, not afraid to be firm but still gentle. We dropped in sometimes twice a day the entire 6 weeks we spent in the area! The hatha morning class was particularly wonderful, always different and new asanas as well as pranayama practice and bandhas!!! Will certainly be a return client and would recommend Hari!!"

"I spent two weeks in Shree Hari Yoga School and I felt really really welcome. Hari is a happy guy and knows a lot about the European culture and so you can relax and slowly you can get used to the Indian culture. For example the school has a clean European toilet and also in the yoga classes he is aware of the differences between an Indian body and an European body. So you don't have to be afraid of extreme traditional yoga, but at the same time you learn traditional yoga. I highly recommend to make a visit."

He has such a kind, warm and open heart and this positivity is infectious. He really seems to dedicate his life to yoga and his practice, philosophy and teaching is wonderful. We even shared a meal together, as he is a wealth of interesting stories and his story of becoming a yogi is not only fascinating, but helpful to my yoga journey as well. As a teacher I felt he challenged me but also kept me safe. He knows how far to push you, but never to an extreme. I learned a lot from him and am still very inspired by the practice he taught me. Popping up from headstand to forearm stand was a goal of mine during that time, and I finally nailed it, and continue to practice this as well as teach it (I, too, am a yoga instructor). What's more is that Shree Hari and I have remained friends and when I travel back to India, I will be reaching out to him and practicing under him again!!!!! Namaste, Shree Hari."

"The 3 weeks I spent doing yoga with Hari on Kudle Beach Gokharna were the best weeks I spent in India. A true yogi Hari offers an authentic yoga experience. You feel instantly at ease with Hari's happy personality in the tranquil space he has created under the swaying palms. No matter how many people in the class Hari will give you individual encouragement and support. After the 3 weeks I felt my posture had improved and was feeling stronger and more flexible. On returning to England my teacher commented on how much my yoga had improved. Oh, and if you have never been able to do a headstand Hari will get you there. Will certainly be going back to Hari when I next go to India, either in Gokharna or Dharamsala"

"Hari is one of those people that with his presence spreads a lot smiles onto other peoples faces. With dedication he shares is knowledge regarding yoga and takes time to explain the purpouse of the asana and how to get into the pose step by step. Shee Hari Yoga is the perfect place where to start a yogic adventure in the heart of the beautiful himachal pradesh mountains or be it at the cost of the Gokarna beaches. India is amazing so this will certainly be a wonderful place to experience the yogic lifestile:)"

"I was lucky enough to spend three weeks doing daily yoga classes with Hari in Gokarna earlier this year. I cannot recommend Hari highly enough. Having only begun practising yoga in 2015, Hari dedicated time and attention to helping me progress my practice. After one week, I could do a headstand because he taught us how to get into the pose step by step. He corrects posture which I really like. His energy and spirit floods from his every pore when he teaches. He is patient, kind, encouraging and a tough task-master. He helps people attain their potential. I cannot wait to visit Hari again in Dharamshala or Gokarna again soon!!! Namaste Hari "
