Shivam Neelkant Yoga Kendra offers a meditation and yoga retreat in the Himalayas that provides a nurturing environment to develop your practice and cultivate a better life. Learn more about the ancient techniques of Kriya Yog and immerse into a spiritual experience of Yogic lifestyle in a real Ashram blessed by Babaji Dooninath (lineage of Nath Yogic tradition of Asian teaching of Himalaya). The Ashram is located in Upper Bhagsu, a beautiful village in the mountains North of Dharamsala blessed with nature and the energy of a Shiva temple.
Rooms are available inside the property. They are mostly built out of bamboo, wood and other natural material. They are comfortable, clean, and simple. All rooms have attached bathrooms with hot water and Western-style toilets. Free Wi-Fi is available.
The ashram is a green oasis, blessed with a lot of sun, especially in the morning. There are sitting areas and a small library to relax and read.
Several temples give the place very spiritual energy and a connection to cosmic vibes. They serve for daily ritual practices such as the Pooja/ Sadhana and fire rituals. Students can meditate in the Shiva Temple, made out of local natural stones, under the guidance of Yogi Shivam.
This 10 days retreat is a wonderful opportunity to nourish your body, and mind, and achieve a better quality of life. You can participate in traditional and personalised yoga courses as well as in different meditation sessions along with other meditative and healing therapies at Shivam Neelkant Yoga Kendra (center).
You can practice Hatha yoga and a mix of Hatha and Ashtanga/Vinyasa flow yoga.
Hatha Yoga are more physical asanas which help to energise your body, to enhance its flexibility and strengthen the muscles and joints. It is the traditional form of yoga to prepare you for long sitting in meditation. The yoga asanas are also good to prevent or ease lower backache, neck pain or spinal problems.
Asthanga Yoga helps to bring flexibility, lose weight and to heat the body. Vinyasa is a more dynamic form of yoga. Bipan Gill teaches a mix of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga.
Yoga sessions usually take place in the morning (08:00 a.m - 09:30 a.m) and afternoon (04:00 p.m. - 05:30 p.m). The guest house provides cotton yoga carpets traditionally used in yoga (no plastic). You can bring your own yoga mat.
You can practice different types of meditation with Bipan 2-3 times on a daily basis. He practice the following meditation
Meditation sessions usually take place in the morning (07:00 a.m - 08:00 a.m) and evening (06:00 p.m - 07:00 p.m). Participants can optionally also join the meditation in the early morning (04:00 a.m - 06:30 a.m) which is the best time to awaken your energy, connect to the cosmos and nature as well as achieve peace of mind. Shivam Neelkant Yoga Kendra also can offer meditation sessions in nature, e.g. at the nearby waterfall.
Pranayama is the practice of breathing. In Sanskrit, “prana” means life energy and “yama” means control. It is a way to generate vital force and fire energy in your body. It helps to purify the body, lungs and nadis (energy channels). We practice different forms such as Naadi Sudhi, Bastrika, Ujjayi, Uddiyana bandha etc. as part of some yoga and meditation sessions.
Kriya Yoga is sacred teaching of Dooninath Babaji Kriya Yogi of the Himalayas. He is the form of the great incarnation of Shiva energy. Master Babaji taught this sacred science to his disciples to open the energy channels and to lead the mind to the highest transcendental state of meditation (samadhi consciousness). Yogi Shivam is a direct disciple of Dooninath Babaji and teaches his knowledge to the retreat participants. He is practicing daily rituals such as Pooja and fire rituals in which participants can take part if they want to.

Shivam, the founder of Shivam Neelkant Yoga Kendra, has been teaching and practicing yoga and meditation for the last 25 years. He was born near McLeod Ganj, the sacred land of H.H. The Dalai Lama, in the Himalayas. Shivam started his journey with yoga and spiritual life at an early age. He studied various forms of yoga from many yoga schools and eminent yoga teachers. He is a certified yoga instructor trained by Sivananda Yoga Center in Rishikesh, after which he achieved his certificate in Vivekananda Yoga Center at the University of India. Shivam has also studied at Ayurvedic College in Ris.
Shivam Neelkanth Yoga Kendra (Center) is located in the hills of Upper Bhagsu where students can view the valley below. It is a peaceful location, only a car ride away from Dharamshala and a walk away from McLeod Ganj and the neighbouring village Dharamkot. Bhagsu is popular for the Bhagsunag waterfall and the Triund Trek. There are many cafés, restaurants, small shops and facilities for different massages and Ayurvedic treatments.
Dharamshala lies at the foot of the beautiful Himalayan Dhauladhar mountain range in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Being located in the upper reaches of the Kangra Valley, the city is surrounded by dense forests consisting mainly of stately cedar trees.
McLeod Ganj town is known worldwide for being the home of the Holy Dalai Lama and the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

The package includes three healthy home-cooked meals per day except for Sundays. The food during the retreat period is included in the total retreat fee.
Shivam Neelkant Yoga Kendra cooks themselves at home. They serve Indian yogic and Ayurvedic healing food. All meals are vegetarian; vegan and gluten-free options are available on demand. The food is cooked with locally grown vegetables, fruits and other ingredients. Additionally, teas and filtered drinking water are available.
On Sundays, you can visit many local restaurants and cafés in Bhagsu and Dharamkot offering Indian, international, and Tibetan cuisine at very reasonable prices.

The best and quickest way for travelers to reach Dharamsala by air is to travel from New Delhi Airport. New Delhi Airport is connected to all most all major destinations and all major cities in India. Daily flights are operated from New Delhi to Gaggal Airport. If you are new to travelling in India, it is recommended to fly to New Delhi (DEL).
The nearest airport, which is reachable from Delhi by internal flight, is Kangra Gaggal Airport (DHM). It's 19 km and about 50 minutes away. There are generally four daily flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi (DEL) flown by Spice Jet and Air India. Flights sometimes are delayed, especially during winter due to fog. Please budget extra time into your plans accordingly.
The nearest international airports are Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport (ATQ) in Amritsar (around 200km away) and Chandigarh Airport (IXC) (around 250km away from Dharamsala. Bus/taxi rides to Dharamsala take around 5-6 hrs. Amritsar is home to Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple, and some international students visit before or after coming to them for training.
There is a daily bus service from Delhi to Dharamsala every evening. The overnight bus ride takes around 10-12 hrs. You can book a ticket from, Deli to one of the two bus stands:
They recommend booking a Volvo AC bus which will take you to the McLeod Ganj Bus Stop (Upper Dharamshala) if you are planning to travel by bus.
There is no direct train to reach Dharamsala. Patankot Railways Station (PKT) is the closest large gauge railway station to McLeod Ganj (Upper Dharamshala). It's 90 kilometers and about 2 hours and 20 minutes away.
Please note that there is Pathankot Cantonment Railway Station (PKTC). It's 94 kilometers and about 2 hours and 22 minutes away. This is the train station before Patankot Railways Station (PKT).
You want to book your ticket for Pathankot Railways Station (PKT), especially if you want to continue on Kangra Valley Railway. Please note that trains are sometimes delayed in winter due to fog, choosing a higher priority train can help with delays, but please budget time into your travels for this.
