The aim of Shanti Yoga Ashram's teaching system is to combine physical movement (asana), breath (pranayama), and awareness (meditation) to generate physical, vital, and mental health.
Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a home-stay setting surrounded by the splendor of nature. This creates a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice, where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture. The ashram provides a few private or shared rooms (2 beds), each with their own closet and bedside table clean bedding and ample space. Availability is based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing, powered by solar and unlimited purified drinking water. WiFi is available 24 hours.
Gopika has more than 15 years of yoga experience. She brings to her class a dynamic flow that is both energizing and rejuvenating. Her classes are a blend of the practices that have influenced her life, such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Tantra. She is also a certified Ayurvedic practitioner and gives lectures and consultations at the ashram.
Prakash is the founder and chairman of Shanti Yoga Ashram. He has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years both at home and abroad. He has a great capacity to transmit the spiritual essence of Tantra yoga to his students with full joy and love. His personal attention and care for every student make everyone feel at home.
Rama is the co-founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram and has been teaching yoga for 14 years. She studied at Bihar School of Yoga in India and in Nepal under the guidance of Swami Shivalingam and Guru Yogi Prakash. Her teaching style is meditative and precise, encouraging students to fully blossom in their practice. She is also a certified naturopathic doctor and has taught in hospitals and schools in the Kathmandu region. The ashram would not be where it is today without her dedicated energy over the years.
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu, Shanti Yoga Ashram is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga. On a clear day, you can see the Himalayas in the distance. The ashram is located next to a large forest which provides ample fresh air and nice breeze. Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food which includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread).
Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!
The kitchen is a cozy, family-size room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian.

Please book your flights to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From the airport, Shanti Yoga Ashram recommends you to take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Machchhegaun, just past Kirtipur. Most drivers will know Kirtipur (it is a small city between Kathmandu and Machchhegaun). When you get to Kirtipur, you can ask the driver to call Shanti Yoga Ashram for exact directions. The taxi ride will cost approximately 1,000 NPR. If you are coming at night or directly from the airport the taxi may cost up to 1,500 NPR.
