Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a home-stay setting surrounded by the splendor of nature. This creates a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice, where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture. The ashram provides a few private or shared rooms (2 beds), each with their own closet and bedside table clean bedding and ample space. Availability is based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing, powered by solar and unlimited purified drinking water. WiFi is available 24 hours.

Program

Tantra Yoga - The Path to Divine Bliss

Tantra is the ancient science which uses specific yogic techniques to liberate the consciousness from its limitations. It's practice gradually brings about the awakening of kula kundalini (cosmic power) that is dormant in everyone. When kundalini becomes activated she moves through the chakras creating transformation bringing out our highest potential. Finally Kundalini unties with higher consciousness in the crown chakra bestowing us with pure bliss.

In this course we will go deeply into Tantra yoga practice including:

  • Asana combined with chakra awareness and bija mantra meditation
  • Pranayama with visualization
  • Mudras incorporated into asana practice to energize the entire system
  • Bhandas (how to use them to generate and move energy)
  • Yoga Nidra - The tantric practice of nyasa (installing the mantra om on each part of the body) as well as using it to re-program the subconscious mind
  • Om Chanting to activate the Ajna chakra (first step in Kundalini practice)
  • Mantra - Kirtan for uplifting our group energy and to create sacred space
  • Tantra meditation - to balance the sacred masculine and the divine feminine

It will include lectures on the basic principles of Tantra, how to apply Tantra to our daily life and how we can use it to create the life we truly desire. It is a method that brings us closer to being alive as it embraces all of life, awakening your senses and at the same time cultivating the witness consciousness. This heightened awareness makes for a life truly worth living.

Instructors

Yogi Prakash
Prakash is the founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram, has been dedicated to yoga since childhood. He studied at the Bihar School of Yoga where he received initiation from Swami Niranjanananda. For the past 10 years, he has continued to deepen his knowledge in Nepal with Swami Shivalingam, Tantra Yoga Master. For the past 18 years, he has been fully immersed in teaching yoga both at home and abroad. He has circled the globe introducing the deeper aspect of yoga practice.
Meera
Meera has always been sensitive to subtle matter and keen on the spiritual side of human nature. Willing to expand her awareness, she has been exploring Asia, studying Eastern philosophy, religion, traditions of different nations and improving her yoga and meditation techniques. She shares that obtained experience with her students during each yoga class, making it enjoyable and beneficial for both the body and soul. Meera emphasizes the importance of the Bhakti path and offers a personal approach to every person, giving advice for increasing divine qualities.

Retreat location

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu, Shanti Yoga Ashram is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga. On a clear day, you can see the Himalayas in the distance. The ashram is located next to a large forest which provides ample fresh air and nice breeze.

Shanti Yoga Ashram is located 15 minutes outside of Kirtipur in Machchhegaun. Once you reach Kirtipur please call Shanti Yoga Ashram for directions (you can use the driver's phone) and they will guide him in Nepali.

Food

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food which includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread).

Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!

The kitchen is a cozy, family-size room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From the airport, Shanti Yoga Ashram recommends you to take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Machchhegaun, just past Kirtipur. Most drivers will know Kirtipur (it is a small city between Kathmandu and Machchhegaun). When you get to Kirtipur, you can ask the driver to call Shanti Yoga Ashram for exact directions. The taxi ride will cost approximately 1,000 NPR. If you are coming at night or directly from the airport the taxi may cost up to 1,500 NPR.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 15% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
