Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a home-stay setting, surrounded by the splendor of nature. Yogi Prakash and his family welcome guests into their kitchen and their living space. This affords a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture.
The ashram provides a few private rooms and shared dorm room facilities, availability is based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing powered by solar and unlimited fresh drinking water. Each person will have their own closet or large shared closed with a hanger, bedside table is also available.

Shanti Yoga Ashram is a certified by Yoga Alliance. During this training course, you will learn in depth multiple aspects of yoga, both practical and philosophical. Through Hatha yoga, you will learn shatkarma techniques - how to cleanse the body to open the energy channels (nadis), followed by asana, pranayama, mudra, and bhanda so that the prana can flow. This will lead you to Ashtanga yoga to control the mind through meditation. By the practice of Mantra yoga, you will learn how to activate the dormant energy.
Then Kundalini yoga will take you to the next level, how to unlock this vital energy, and use it for awakening the chakras and higher levels of consciousness. You will be empowered to share this knowledge and gain the confidence to give the experience of yoga to others through these teachings. You will be ready to teach students of different levels for therapeutic purposes or to awaken their spiritual consciousness.
The daily activities provide a balanced mix of all the aspects a great yogi embodies including disciplined daily practice, knowledge, devotion, action or work, healthy food, rest, nature, service, and community.
During the month you will go on at least two outings as a group to visit someplace significant, such as the Pashupati Temple (the most important Shiva temple in the world) and Dakshina Kali temple, a powerful shakti center. You will go there for meditation and spiritual practice.
Since Yogini Gopika was a young girl she was in love with the deep beauty and peace found in nature. For her life was always full of magic and mystery. Upon getting her first real job after college, she can remember thinking with a feeling of longing for something greater that here must be more to life than this. Upon discovering yoga, everything transformed and she made a swift exit from mainstream society in search of life’s true meaning. After teaching yoga in New York City for about a year she journeyed to India.
Prakash is the founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram, has been dedicated to yoga since childhood. He studied at the Bihar School of Yoga where he received initiation from Swami Niranjanananda. For the past 10 years, he has continued to deepen his knowledge in Nepal with Swami Shivalingam, Tantra Yoga Master. For the past 18 years, he has been fully immersed in teaching yoga both at home and abroad. He has circled the globe introducing the deeper aspect of yoga practice.
Rama is the co-founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram and has been teaching yoga for 14 years. She studied at Bihar School of Yoga in India. In Nepal, she practiced under the guidance of Swami Shivalingam and Guru Yogi Prakash. Her teaching style is meditative and precise, encouraging students to fully blossom in their practice. She is also a certified naturopathic doctor and has taught in hospitals and schools in the Kathmandu region. The ashram would not be where it is today without her dedicated energy over the years.
Meera has always been sensitive to subtle matter and keen on the spiritual side of human nature. Willing to expand her awareness, she has been exploring Asia, studying Eastern philosophy, religion, traditions of different nations and improving her yoga and meditation techniques. She shares that obtained experience with her students during each yoga class, making it enjoyable and beneficial for both the body and soul. Meera emphasizes the importance of the Bhakti path and offers a personal approach to every person, giving advice for increasing divine qualities.
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu, Shanti Yoga Ashram is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga.Shanti Yoga Ashram is located in the countryside next to a large forest where you can go hiking.
There are 3 freshly cooked meals a day. The morning's normal breakfast is oatmeal and fruit, lunch is our main meal and dinner is usually fresh cooked bread with vegetables. Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food. This includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread). There are 3 freshly cooked meals a day. The morning's normal breakfast is oatmeal and fruit, lunch is our main meal and dinner is usually fresh cooked bread with vegetables.
Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!
The kitchen is a cozy, family-sized room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian. There are tables outside on the veranda.
Massage, shirodhara, and steam rooms are available by appointment for an additional price. Please let Shanti Yoga Ashram know if you would like to book.
Please book your flights to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From the airport, take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Machchhegaun, just past Kirtipur. When you get to Kirtipur, you can ask the driver to call Shanti Yoga Ashram for further directions.
