Accommodation

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a homestay setting, surrounded by the splendor of nature. Yogi Prakash and his family welcome guests into their kitchen and living space, creating a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice. Staying at the ashram can get a taste of an authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture.

The ashram provides a few private rooms and shared dormitory facilities, with availability based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing, powered by solar energy, and unlimited fresh drinking water. While electrical outages are a part of life in Nepal, Shanti Yoga has adapted with solar energy for heating water and gas or fire for cooking. The ashram have 24-hour Wi-Fi and battery-powered lights, not depending on the coming and going of electricity.

Life in the East flows with the rhythms of nature instead of by the numbers on a watch. While you do your best to keep to your daily routine, you also believe in remaining flexible, going with the flow, and accepting what each day brings.

Tantra Yoga is the integrated practice of all Yoga systems. It is a complete science which heals and balances the physical, vital and mental body through the practice of asana, pranayama, mantra, meditation and lifestyle. Through these teachings, people are able to raise their level of energy and consciousness and use it for the benefit of all humanity.

Shanti Yog Ashram provide you the environment and the tools to grow together as a spiritual family.

What you will learn?

  • Asana: Combined with chakra awareness and bija mantra meditation.
  • Pranayama: To activate and regulate prana (life energy).
  • Chakras meditations: To balance and open the chakras (depending on length of stay)
  • Meditations: Different meditation techniques as taught by a guru to disciple.

One-day ashram experience

If you are not sure whether the ashram is something for you, or you are just curious about the lifestyle and program, from the morning till the evening, Shanti Yoga Ashram guides you through the day in the ashram.

The day will start at 05:00 am, with morning chanting in the temple. Throughout the whole morning, there will be a comprehensive sadhana with Sanskrit chanting, mantra, Havana (ritual), and yoga (asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha).

Later in the morning, there will be satsang, and after lunch, you will go for a short hike up to the Buddhist monastery. In the afternoon, there will be a meditation class, an aarti ceremony (ritual worship), and end the day at 8:00 with Kirtan.

  • 04:00 Morning chanting in temple (sanskrit mantra)*
  • 05:30 - Havana (fire ceremony, tantric ritual)
  • 07:00/07:30 - Yoga class (asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha)
  • 09:30 - Breakfast
  • Free time/ satsang /Karma yoga /Self study
  • 14:00 - Lunch
  • Karma yoga /free time /self study
  • 17:00 - Meditation class
  • 18:00 - Aarti (temple ceremony)
  • 18:30 - Dinner
  • 19:00 - Kirtan (chanting) or retire to bed.

Food

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food, including Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, a pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flatbread).

The kitchen is a cozy, family-sized room with a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian.

Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field include cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices, and herbs, as well as chilies, radishes, and much more.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

You can book your flight to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM).

Arrival by bus

You can take a bus from Kathmandu city to arrive at the ashram. Tell the driver to go towards Kirtipur on the way to Machchhegaun.

Arrival by taxi

You can call Shanti Yoga Ashram and they will give further directions.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 14% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
