During the retreat, you will stay at The Abbey, Sutton Courtenay. The Abbey is a unique medieval building, set in extensive grounds, tucked away in the small village of Sutton Courtenay, just 10 miles south of Oxford. This extraordinary facility is used by individuals and groups from the public, private, and voluntary sectors. It is surrounded by a peaceful yet creative setting that never ceases to inspire all who visit.

The Abbey is surrounded by four acres of beautiful grounds that include mature trees, a woodland path, and a labyrinth and tranquil sitting areas, which all guests are welcome to explore and enjoy. There are also fine walks through the old village and along the nearby Thames.

There is a great hall, which has a timber vaulted ceiling, wooden floor, magnificent fireplace, french windows opening onto the garden, and a grand piano. This space is very flexible and can accommodate up to 80 people. There is also a library available on the first floor with magnificent stained glass windows overlooking the gardens. It seats up to 14 in armchairs.

Serendipity Yogi's UK Yoga Retreat Program

The primary goal of this retreat is to ensure all guests have an amazing time and feel valued, welcome, and accepted for who they are. This will be a special experience, which hopefully will inspire and drive a true love of the beautiful journey of yoga.

The timetable will cater for all levels of practice, with teachings in Hatha, Yin, and Vinyasa yoga, as well as pranayama and yoga theory. Sian is currently studying Ashtanga, and hopes to introduce beginner lessons in the Primary Series by the time of the February retreat.

All lessons are optional, and you are encouraged to only participate in your own personal areas of interest. There is no pressure to take part in all lessons. You will start the day at a reasonable time, around 8:30 a.m. You shall practice outside in the glorious gardens if the weather permits, otherwise the backup is in the great hall, a stunning and unique room.

Whether you are looking to improve your fitness levels, incorporate exercise into your life, improve your emotional well-being and self-confidence, reduce stress levels, or discover a sense of spirituality, this yoga retreat is perfect for you. Whatever your motivation is, this retreat can help you to develop your practice. The yoga classes will be led by Sian. She teaches with a light heart, passion, joy and humor, creating a fun, warm, and welcoming atmosphere.


Sian Dorwand
Sian is a yoga practitioner. She holds a level three diploma in teaching yoga, and is also a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals. Yoga truly has changed her life. She has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder for a number of years, and she has been able to manage all of her problems more effectively with the aid of daily practice. Whatever your motivation is, and whether you are completely new to yoga or have some level of experience, she will help you to realize your aspirations and develop a practice to suit your personal ability and goals.

You will be served daily buffet vegetarian meals and snacks. Vegan and other dietary requirements can be catered for with advanced notice. You are also invited to participate in group drinks on Saturday evening, but bring your own if you drink alcohol. Since this is not a detox retreat, guests are welcome to bring and consume their own alcohol should they wish.

Driving directions from M4 J13 and M40 J7

  • The village of Sutton Courtenay is 30 minutes from the M4 J13 and M40 J7.
  • The Abbey is 10 miles south of Oxford, and three miles from Abingdon.
  • When using satellite navigation, please use the postcode OX14 4AE, which will bring you to the Abbey’s entrance on the village Green.

Buses of the Thames Travel X1 service run through Sutton Courtenay via Didcot, Abingdon, and Oxford.

Arrival by train

Please take a train to arrive at Didcot Parkway railway station. Taxis are available from Didcot Parkway, which is 10 minutes away from The Abbey.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 40% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 14 days before arrival.
