Discover Tirta Gangga

The literal meaning of Tirta Gangga is water from the Ganges and it is a site of prayer for the Hindu Balinese. Accurately, the name refers to the water palace built here in 1946 by the king of Karangasem. Tirta Gangga is a trendy side trip from the nearby coastal resort towns of Amed and Candidasa.

The Tirta Gangga water palace is a complex of pools and fountains enveloped by a green garden and stone carvings and statues. The one-hectare complex was built in 1946, but it was destroyed almost entirely by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963. Later it was rebuilt and restored into its current state.

Enjoy Candidasa

Candidasa is an area for all day relaxation, morning sunbathing, and afternoon sea breeze, while being cooled below the shade of coconut trees. You can swim in the sea in front of Sea Breeze, which houses many different fish species, and when evening comes, you can relax with friends for a barbecue or have an outdoor dining experience overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, with the mystical Island of Nusa Penida in the background.

Sea Breeze Villa is a magical destination, close to places where you can raft dramatic rivers, shop for bargains in vibrant local markets, enjoy cultural performances of Hindu dance epics, cycle through gently swaying fields of rice, visit ancient kingdoms and mystical water palaces, climb mighty volcanoes, or dive into an exotic world of psychedelic fish. The facilities and services offered by the staff at Sea Breeze Bungalow are exceptional with the emphasis on privacy and relaxation.

In addition to the nearby popular destinations you can visit, the hotel can arrange and prepare for you other activities, such as cooking classes, trekking, boat rides, swimming, snorkeling, diving, Balinese dancing classes, and wedding planning. Sea activities can be arranged in the private beach right in front of Sea Breeze or other nearby beaches.

Experience the Bali Aga at Tenganan

Located about 4 kilometers from Candidasa, the Bali Aga at Tenganan is the most famous Bali Aga, original Balinese, village. The Bali Aga people have preserved an ancient pre-Majapahit Balinese culture and it is quite different from the rest of Bali.

The craftsmanship of Bali Aga at Tenganan is the unique double weave ikat fabric called geringsing. Tenganan produces what is probably the best basketwork anywhere in Indonesia. The village is road signed from the main road in Candidasa, which makes it easy to find.

Explore Amed

Amed is located on the north-eastern tip of Bali; it is stretching through seven villages of Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Selang, Banyuning, and Aas. Located about two hours and 30 minutes away from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Amed offers a calm lifestyle with coastal views.

It is a favorite honeymoon destination for couples and very popular among divers and snorkelers. People in Amed make their living from fishing, salt-making, and tourism. Traditional outrigger boats are available for fishing from the main beaches in the Amed area.

Explore Padang Bai

Padang Bai, also known as Padangbai or Padang Bay, is a small harbor in East Bali that serves the transportation by sea to Lombok Island. Padang Bai is located about 54 kilometers east from Denpasar and an hour and thirty minutes drive from Kuta and Legian. Padang Bai is also the best site for diving and snorkeling in Bali and a number of operators are present to cater for those activities.

Explore Tulamben

Tulamben is a small fishing village 30 kilometers north of Amed. It is renowned for its attraction as a diving site and for the shipwreck of USS Liberty, a United States army transport ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942. The wreck lies about 30 meters offshore and it is now absolutely covered in soft corals. A huge range of reef fish has made this their home and occasional pelagic visit as well.

Here, you can visit the Japanese shipwreck in Banyuning, a small ship at 20 meters from the beach, with awesome corals with tons of fish; Jemeluk, with beautiful coral formations and wonderful and abundant fish; the small wooden shipwreck at Lipah Beach, Bunutan, and Selang beach.

Take a boat trip in Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air, Lombok

Here you can get 35% to 50% off discounts on fast boat tickets.

Visit Goa Lawah

Goa Lawah temple and bat cave is one of Bali's key nine directional temples and serves as the protector against dark spirits from the ocean. The cave here is a well-known bat’s habitation. On the north side of the coast road about 10 kilometers west of Candidasa, close to Padang Bai.

Visit Taman Ujung

Taman Ujung is located at the southeast of Karangasem, Amlapura. It is another water palace built by the ancestors of the king who constructed Tirta Gangga. Taman Ujung was built in 1909 as a relaxation and recreation palace by the late king of Karangasem, Gusti Bagus Jelantik.

It was destroyed for the most part by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, and got damaged again by an earthquake in 1979, and it has not been restored on the same scale as Tirta Gangga.

"My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights in the honeymoon suite. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. They went out of there way to get to know us while we were there, special mention to Ahyu, Wayung and Sari . Our room was fantastic! The view to the ocean was amazing and we saw dolphins from our terrace 4 days out of 8. During our stay, when we were on the resort grounds ie snorkeling, swimming, eating'; we never locked our room or took our room keys anywhere. Too trusting I hear you say.......there is a safe in your room to keep your valuables in!! Any issues that we had with our room (only 1 to think of) were dealt with straight away, which suggests that they run a tight ship. This resort is a short walk to the local village, with many food options to choose from or a short taxi ride to Candidasa, if you prefer not to eat at the restaurant. Candidasa is walkable if you prefer not to pay the $6 (AUD) return fare. There is a reef outside the hotel on the beach which has good snorkeling mid to low tide. high tide is very rough and the water is very murky. Bring your own gear. Mix it with the locals!! you will love it!!!!!!"

"I will definitely return with a 7 and 4 year old, as it it totally kid friendly! with a small kiddies pool. "

"Book here!! you won't regret it!!!"

"Ps not touristy like Kuta.. no haggling in the local village. Candidasa......who knows I went there once!!! !!"

"We stayed in Sea Breeze for 2 weeks and enjoyed it a lot. The place is perfect if you want to escape from noisy, crowded locations and prefer 'desert island' type of place. "

"There are only 16 rooms in the resort, most of them located very close to the sea, with beautiful view of the sea and Nusa Penida island. Even though the resort can host only around 30 guests, it has 2 pools with several sunbeds around each of them, so you will always find free one suitable for you."

"There is only a little snippet of beach by the hotel which was quite disappointing until... we discovered that beautiful and widely spread reef is accessible directly from there (it starts already 5-10 meters from the beach, so be careful not to step on it before you even start snorkeling). Believe me, you will love it - having such a great reef just 3 minutes walk from your room! (you won't have too leave the hotel and go on a highly priced tour to see it)."

"Breakfast in hotel's restaurant were quite good (especially american breakfast) but also quite expensive (breakfast for 1 person was as expensive as dinner for 2 people outside of the hotel) and unfortunately it was not a buffet breakfast. Dinners were relatively cheaper but we preferred to eat in restaurants outside of the hotel as there was wider selection of dishes, the food was more tasty and still it was cheaper."

"When you step outside of the hotel area, it seems that you are in the middle of nowhere. But just after 10 minutes of walk there is a small village with some really good and reasonably priced restaurants (our favourites were Lu Putu, Padang Kecag and Warung Smiley)."

"The rooms in the hotel are clean and well equipped. There is a cable TV with only 8 channels but everyone will find something for them (there is sports channel, movie channel, news channel, etc). Free wi-fi works really well in the whole hotel area."

"We highly recommend Sea Breeze, especially if you want to relax in peaceful location, far away from a crowd of tourists, with beautiful views all around! (see attached pictures)"

"This place is absolutely beautiful and oh, so relaxing. Set in beautiful gardens slightly elevated about the beach and sea, it offers wonderful sea views and yes, lovely sea breezes! The gardens, beach area, and two fantastic pools could easily cater for two or three times as many guests, but with just a few rooms here, there is plenty of space to spread out, relax, and enjoy the place. There is a small sand beach and the nearby reef is fascinating for snorkeling around. Our deluxe seafront bungalow was excellent - very large, cool, clean, and well-equipped and with a huge veranda maybe 25 meters from the sea. The food here is also consistently good. We had a lot of meals here and they were all excellent. Best of all are the charming staff who really do go out of their way to welcome you and to make sure your stay is comfortable. We loved this place and we loved our stay here. Very highly recommended."

"Not many people head to the east coast of Bali and it is certainly something I would recommend. Candidasa had bad luck when it got developed in the early 70s and coral was used in the building materials. The natural barrier was taken away and the beach started eroding away until there was nothing left. The same can be said for the location of the Sea Breeze hotel. Right on the sea, but no beach. Although you can snorkel here, as there is coral, make sure you go at high tide, as the coral is close to the surface."

"This hotel is tucked away from the main road and is a bit of a hike away from any other restaurants and facilities. So you will most likely spend more time here or take a taxi. We decided to stay as it was absolutely worth it."

"The Sea Breeze is a small scale resort with 14 units, with all of them offering amazing sea views. The room we stayed in had huge glass doors from which you could see the sea from your bed. The distance is a maximum of 30 meters. The room was decorated with modern materials and was huge. The bathroom had a nice bath with a window from which you can see the sea as well. The rest of the bathroom was huge, but felt a bit clinical, not in line with how the rest of the room and resort was."

"This hotel has two pools, one is a lap pool and the other one is a beautiful infinity pool next to the restaurant. The restaurant pool has a low part with a divider perfect for smaller children."

"The restaurant has reasonably priced food, similar in price range to other restaurants in Candidasa. The food choices on offer were safe, with Indonesian and Western, mostly Italian, food dishes on offer. The menu was certainly suitable for children. I wish they had some more exciting food choices on the menu."

"I thought this hotel, with its amazing quiet location and beautiful gardens, was extremely good value for money at 80 USD per night. If I was to do a honeymoon on the cheap, this one would make my list. Even the spa had a massage on offer for 18 USD per hour, which although I have not tried, is cheap for a hotel with such a location. You will get cheaper massages but not right next to the beach in a beautiful garden location."

"I am glad I found this hidden gem of a hotel. On my next trip to Bali, I will certainly stay here again."

"We stayed here for four nights and it was lovely. Views were great, check-in was easy and very welcoming. All the staff was very friendly and always smiling. There were only 16 rooms in total, which meant the restaurant and pools were never busy. It was a very relaxing stay, but you had to take a bit of a walk if you wanted to go anywhere. It is about 3 kilometers before the main part of Candidasa. Reception could organize transport to town and back for about 6 USD, so it was not a problem. We did tours for two and a half days, but, otherwise, just enjoyed the peace and quiet, as well as the amazing views. The restaurant food was okay, but, like past reviews have said, the food was not great. Restaurants in Candidasa will come and pick you up and then drop you off again if you book, which we did twice, eating at Crazy Kangaroo and Vincent's, which were both very good. This hotel is good value for money and we will return, but next time I am asking for a room at the front."

"The hotel is in a beautiful location and the room was lovely. We got upgraded to a deluxe room with a pool at our front door. The main bedroom was huge. The restaurant was just okay. Breakfast was good. We were very disappointed with the dinner special we had on the first night, the fish we had was awful, it was dry and over-cooked. We did not have dinner there again. The staff is friendly and helpful and makes a point of remembering your name. The walk from the hotel to the main street in Candidasa is about 900 meters up a jungle track with little chickens chirping, cows mooing, and interesting little shops. There are a number of little restaurants and bars along the way. If you are doing the walk at night, take a torch with you. It is very dark in some places. If you make it to the main road alive, it is a small cab fare into Candidasa's main drag. If you do not want to walk from the hotel, the Sea Breeze will arrange transport for you. When you book at Sea Breeze, make sure you get a room the furthest from the lobby, up by the big pool."

"Candidasa is far less manic than places near Kuta and has far less market stalls, there are mainly small shops and restaurants and spas in the area."

"Sea Breeze is not on the main road, but about over 1 kilometer to it, you pass a few other hotels, resorts, restaurants, and minor shops along the way. It is located in the Mendira Village."

"The beautiful views around the hotel and from it looking over the sea make this a great place to relax and really just slow down. I highly recommend this place if you want to relax and have a slower paced holiday."

"I loved the infinity pool, clear freshwater overlooking the sea. There was also a lap pool. Our room was comfortable with air conditioning and a ceiling fan, as well as a veranda to relax on. It is a good place to just chill out or have a romantic ambiance for couples. There were families there, too, so it caters for everyone really."

"A variety of types of breakfasts is available: American, continental, cereals, and others. You basically get a three-course breakfast. When dining, you get a sea view at their Shark's Bay restaurant with every meal. They also have a happy hour 16:00 to 18:00."

"There is snorkeling and diving in the area if this is your thing. The hotel offers snorkeling gear and you can do that off their small beach within a reefed area."

"There were a few negatives, though. In our room, television reception was terrible and had limited channels, but they did have a DVD player, which came in handy. The beef rendang and chicken curry were very disappointing. The beef was just steak with a curry sauce over it and same for the chicken. Not enough guests, I think, for this type of stew cooking."

"The overall experience was great and we wanted to go back after we went to the next hotel."

"Gorgeous views, gorgeous pools, and gorgeous staff, who are a credit to the resort. The first view towards the ocean, when you walk in, makes you know you picked the right spot!"

"I did a lot of research before booking Sea Breeze and I can tell you the meagre terrible reviews can probably be put down to plain old sour grapes or humbugs who will never be pleased finding fault no matter where they go."

"Sea Breeze location is superb. It is not in the middle of noisy Candidasa, but a short, cheap car ride or a good bit of early morning exercise are enough to get downtown. Contrary to some reviews, there actually is a decent bit of beach, albeit at mid or low tide, but it certainly exists and you can definitely swim and snorkel there. The water is clear and a beautiful blue. Unfortunately, due to limestone mining in the 70s and 80s, there is not a lot of live coral directly in Candidasa, you need to boat out a bit."

"We were in suite 11, the honeymoon suite, which was delightful. A very spacious room and bathroom, with good storage spaces. The king-sized bed was super comfortable and we could lay in bed watching the waves. If you want air conditioning, it works very well. We also found the Wi-Fi to be very good, no matter where we were at the resort."

"The resort grounds are a delight, with lots of lounging options, and they are kept meticulously clean and tidy by the staff. As to the refinery someone mentioned, it is actually partly hidden in a small bay way to the right, certainly out of any direct view. And, of the three freighter vessels we saw during our 3-day stay, only one was anchored near Sea Breeze, about 900 meters offshore and only overnight, when all its lights out on the water looked quite lovely. Bring a small pair of binoculars, it is very interesting!"

"The restaurant outlook is postcard worthy. While we did not eat every meal at Sea Breeze, we did eat from their breakfast selection, lunch, and special dinner options. Each one of them was filling and flavorsome, maybe not the greatest meal we had in Bali, but they were certainly enjoyable and reasonably priced, and with such a view! Breakfast can require a little patience, especially if all guests decide to breakfast at once. My tip is to go earlier or later than everyone else. Also, some good dining can be found just down the road."

"If you read up a little on Candidasa, you will find that much of Candidasa beachfront has been eroded over the years, hence the multiple man-made groynes all along the coastal strip to help reduce further erosion. They are not concrete bollards only in front of Sea Breeze."

"I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Sea Breeze, there was not a single one that was not always smiling or always helpful. We had a wonderful holiday experience and will certainly stay at Sea Breeze when we come back to Candidasa."

"We chose to stay here for our first few days in Bali to acclimatize! The hotel is quite a way out from Candidasa, but most restaurants will pick you up and drop you off, just ask the hotel to arrange. The food is good and very reasonable, the rooms are clean, the bathrooms are basic. We expected a little more for the money, but overall we were happy! Snorkelling is okay from the beach, but you can take a 20-minute drive to Padangbai for fast boats and a beach, blue lagoon, with better snorkelling."

The view is outstanding. Also, tours can be fixed and there are small shops close to the hotel. The food is nice in the restaurant and it is not too expensive, so it was well worth it."
