Travel to the Sacred Valley, high in the Peruvian Andes, and fill your soul with joy in this magical place. Held at the Munay Sonqo Retreat and Yoga Center in the small village of Arin, Peru, here you will be inspired by the native Quecha speaking cultures, as they work the land in the way they have for centuries, with love and simplicity.
During this training, you will be staying at Munay Sonqo Retreat and Yoga Center. The center is eco-conscious, constructed using local materials, with a love for the natural, sacred landscape. Enjoy dining, study, and relaxation in artfully crafted spaces, sure to inspire and propel personal growth. A stunning yoga temple with views of the mountains will be the backdrop for personal transformation.
Lovingly tended gardens and pathways will provide you with personal privacy and solitude on your journey in this picturesque mountain valley. Students who complete their training are eligible to apply for Yoga Alliance International certification.
Indra’s 300-hour Yoga and Ayurveda Teacher Training is for those who are called to make yoga accessible for everybody while deepening personal practice and awareness while experiencing the healing medicine of the Sacred mountains and rivers.
Ayurveda is called the mother of all healing. It is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science and sister science to yoga. Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance. Over the course of the training, you will gain a deep understanding of Ayurveda as a lifestyle as well as techniques to take home with you to cultivate and share in your personal and professional practice.
Yoga is social justice. Learn more about how to decolonize yoga, make yoga for all bodies, dismantle racism, identify cultural appropriation and support each other through the necessary work, you have a responsibility to do as a community.
This is where you will weave the philosophy together with anatomy and the practices to create a sense of awakened understanding as an advanced yoga teacher. Apply the natural rhythms and subtle energies of the five elements to your life on and off the mat. Begin to learn about the nadis and main meridians, as a pathway for the five elements.
Learn general movements that access the meridians, how the matrix of the 12 meridians of Chinese Medicine and five elements create and influence the “energetic effects” of your practices. Learn and apply safe acupressure points along the meridians in your practice and daily life as part of your self-care routine.
Deepen your understanding of how trauma affects the brain and the nervous system. Learn how trauma lives in the body and the healing potential available through embodiment practices and breathwork. Create and maintain inclusive environments that support your student’s emotional exploration.
Increase your awareness and sensitivity when working with trauma survivors and marginalized communities. Enhance your ability to share trauma-informed yoga classes through inviting cues, consistent classes, and intentional necessary hands-on adjustments. Practical somatic experiencing exercises will be shared as well as sequencing techniques that support the nervous system.
An exploration into the art of asana through the practices of heart-based Vinyasa, Hatha, and trauma-informed teachings. Take a deep dive into what it means to teach an “all levels” asana class with curiosity, exploring different techniques and variations for all bodies and skill levels. The intention is to empower students to find their “way” into and out of postures through the guidance of breath, discernment (Viveka), and intuition (Vichara).
You will question and examine the essence and purpose of more advanced methods and how to effectively and mindfully teach more challenging variations in a skillful and informed way; a balance of Sukha and Sthira. You will practice intentional hands-on adjustments and explore the “why” behind your assists. Advanced students will peer teach and assimilate virtual workshops throughout the course to not only elevate their teaching approach but their own practice as well.
The goal at Indra Yoga Institute is to increase your awareness on all levels. At Indra, they dedicate time and resources to finding solutions to the environmental challenges facing you now and in the future. More science and more technology cannot get you out of your present ecologic crisis. A global awakening must take place to shift the current conscience. Through literature, poetry, dialogue, and practice, you will uncover the power of yoga to connect all beings and bring about global change.
To guide the process of personal transformation, you will explore ancient texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist Scriptures, Hindu Deities, Peruvian Shamanism, and native American writings. These ancient discoveries live as wisdom to help inform your actions in this world. Using these paths as guides, you will tap into your own source of creation and expression; understanding enough to confidently share these teachings with others is a sacred gift.
When the breath achieves the qualities of prolonged, deep, even, and subtle, it is the state of pranayama. Gain an in-depth understanding of the theory, practice, and teaching of pranayama and various forms of meditation. Through intermediate and advanced instruction, participants learn how to create a variety of pranayama sequences for specific needs. Accompanying the regular practice of pranayama are daily meditation practices exploring a variety of mindfulness techniques.
Your ability to thrive creatively depends on the generosity you offer each other through sharing of knowledge and skills, resources, and strategies. Immersion into the creative process is woven throughout the training. Within this safe and uplifting community, you will explore how to deepen and share your personal creative voice through art, writing, music, dance, poetry, and other forms of free expression.
Confident, skilled, and knowledgeable leaders are needed to inspire, guide and foster dynamic organizations and communities. While you may be willing to give your time and talents to serve others, you must first cultivate the connections, skills, and confidence to take on leadership roles. Together, you will practice powerful non-violent communication skills, and further develop your personal visions for careers as wellness entrepreneurs.
Training is arranged in four cycles following elemental themes, Hindu deities, and medicine wheel exploration. You will ask the guardian spirits to guide you through cycles of release, expanded understanding, new growth, and personal and community empowerment. Using mantras and chanting, you will call upon the Hindu Trimurti forms, Ganesha, Vishnu, Devi, and Shiva, to support you through each cycle. Together, you will create a space that reveals your inner wisdom and accelerates the realization of your life’s purpose.

The food is vegetarian. If you have certain dietary needs or restrictions, please let the school know in the spreadsheet sent out by your lead teacher, or always feel free to contact them and let them know ahead of time (i.e., gluten, dairy, nut preferences sensitivities, or allergies). The venue will provide purified water but it is always good to have these on hand when traveling. In general, do not drink tap water in South America without first purifying.
School Yoga Institute is hoping to have the hours available to add this as an add-on optional choice on a day off during the January and July Peru Immersion training.
After the training, there is an option for sacred plant medicine ceremonies. These ceremonies are not offered by Indra Yoga Institute, are optional, and are not associated with the course.

Transfer not provided
Please book your flight to arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). From Lima, you can book a short flight to Cuzco, Peru. You will meet others in Cuzco so you can go to the venue together. From Cusco, you can get a colectivo (from Puputi) that goes to Calca. From Calca arrange a taxi to Munay Sonqo (you will pass Urco, three little towns and arrive at Arin, just before Huaran). Go up the dirt road and veer left, soon you will see a small yellow church, make a right at the church, then make a left at the next turn, continue till you pass a cemetery on the left, keep going to the end of the road for Sach’a Munay (on the right).
Please note that a high clearance vehicle is recommended for arriving. It is recommended that you fly in a few days early if possible to acclimatize, although you will not meet School Yoga Institute staff members until noon on the first day of the training. The Sacred Valley is a bit lower in elevation than Cusco so it can also be a good idea to fly to Cusco then go directly to Pisaq for a day or two, then arrive in Cusco to meet the group.
It can take up to five days to start to feel fully acclimatized. On the first day of the training, there will be an optional yoga class from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. You will have dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by an opening ceremony. On the last day of the training, you will finish by 10 a.m. (an afternoon flight from Cusco on the last day is possible for those with tight travel schedules).
