6 Days Meditation, Yoga and Walking Holiday in Croatia

  • Island of Brac, Croatia

Overview

Croatia Yoga and Walking Retreat

This holiday will incorporate a balance of yoga and meditation classes, guided walks and free time. Satvada Retreats personal experience of some retreats is that days can be jam-packed with busyness, with little time to properly unwind, and take the opportunity for non-doing. Satvada Retreats search for a special venue came with many criteria: a quiet, beach-side location (image, left); delicious home-cooked food; indoor and outdoor yoga space; abundant walks nearby; private swimming pool.

Highlights

  • Daily Hatha flow yoga classes
  • Daily mindfulness meditation sessions
  • Daily gentle Restorative yoga sessions
  • 1 optional guided walk to a monastery
  • 2 guided walks from the door
  • 3 daily vegetarian meals
  • 5 nights accommodation

The host venue for the six days is a private Croatian villa, built in traditional stone style, but with a spacious contemporary interior. It is perched virtually on a beautiful pebble beach. The villa has a private swimming pool with views to the sea, and an alfresco area equipped with sun beds and long, vine-covered table for al fresco dining.

Three of the bedrooms boast sea views, and two have a small private balcony; sea-front rooms are allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis.

Bedrooms are attractively, simply designed, and mostly come with large en-suite bathrooms. Two rooms share a bathroom, and one bedroom (which is en-suite and especially spacious) is downstairs.

The ground floor is open plan, with a combined dining and chill-out space, and full-height glass doors, opening to the front, paved garden and beach.

The intention of Satvada Retreats is to offer a range of scheduled activity - in the form of two taught yoga and meditation classes daily, two guided 2/3 hour walks over two mornings, and an optional day excursion. Afternoons are your own (apart from if you opt for the day trip), and you are free to join activities as your wish.

Yoga and meditation classes

The twice daily 90-minute yoga and mindfulness meditation classes - taken outside by the swimming pool, weather permitting - will be suitable for all levels. The morning class will be dynamic Hatha flow yoga, with different options given for varying levels of experience.

Each evening session will be a stress-busting combination of gentle yoga (including calming Restorative yoga) and mindfulness meditation. The teachers are chosen for their sensitive, nurturing approach, and will give as much attention as possible to you as an individual.

How your day will look

Your days begin with an energizing yoga class at around 08.00-09.30, followed by breakfast.

If there is a guided walk scheduled (on two mornings), all will then set off from the villa, returning for a late brunch at around 12.30.

On the day of the optional walk, all guests will be provided with a packed brunch.

Afternoons are for you to do as you please. You will enjoy afternoon tea at around 15.30, with a selection of local cakes and pastries, or fruit. Then all will come together for the day's second yoga class - a gentler, more restorative blend of soft movement, meditation and relaxation. The day ends with a delicious home cooked dinner, comprising three courses.

Food is vegetarian, locally sourced and organic where possible; often, and where possible, the fruit and vegetables are sourced from the villa owner's gardens. It may be possible to request fish (from the surrounding waters), but dining will be meat-free by default.

The cook for the week - a family member of the villa owners' - spent many years as a chef at a restaurant he owned and ran. Satvada Retreats hopes you will agree the taste, presentation, love and care poured into the cooking, twinned with the freshness of the raw ingredients, makes for a wonderful dining experience!

The meal times will generally be as follows:

  • Fruit before morning yoga
  • Light breakfast after yoga
  • Brunch at around midday
  • Afternoon tea
  • Generous dinner
  • Chill out by the pool
  • Go sun-bathing
  • Go visit the stunning city of Split, an hour's ferry ride away
  • Optional walk to the monastery (approximately 45 - 60 minutes walk in either direction)
  • Swim in the crystal-clear sea
  • Visit a Blaca hermitage
  • Visit Bol - famous for its stunning beach
  • Walking into Supetar
  • 2 daily 90-minute classes: a morning Hatha flow yoga class, and a gentle Restorative yoga and mindfulness meditation session
  • 2 guided walks from the door (between two and three hours' long)
  • 4 evening vegetarian meals
  • 5 nights' comfortable accommodation. Four rooms are en-suite; the two others share a bathroom
  • Afternoon tea, cake, fruit
  • Daily brunch
  • Fruit and tea / coffee before yoga
  • One evening meal
  • Optional trip to Blaca hermitage
  • Return ferry ride (around 7 GBP)
  • Transfers from the airport to the venue

Arrival by airplane

Arrive at Split Airport. From the airport, Satvada Retreats will arrange transfers to the venue.

"Having already been on a Marrakesh New Year trip with Satvada Retreats in January 2014, I thought I'd know what to expect on a summer retreat to Essouria in June 2016. I was not disappointed and my expectations were excelled once more. I can't quite put my finger on what is different, but I'll do my best. Satvada Retreats put alot of consideration into the retreat - their excellent choice of exquisite surroundings with amazing local food alongside providing expert yoga and mindfulness tuition is their talent. I love their nurturing plan for each day which allows you the freedom to personalize your holiday with a massage, or a trip or two out or just continue to relax. Looking forward to the next one!"

"I had a fab time on the Yoga retreat. Location, weather, food and classes were all excellent. The only minor thing was the fact the studio was not that big, I think they should have had a few less people to make it more comfortable. Rooms were large with a lovely balcony. Staff very friendly and wanted to please. I would recommend this holiday to friends. "The mindfulness and yoga weekend far exceeded my expectations. The food and company were great, with the group (tutors and attendees alike) gelling and very relaxed in each other's company. Overall there was a great balance of relaxed atmosphere and a nicely spread schedule of practice, free time, and delicious food! It has also been great that the relaxed feelings, and mindfulness, have spilled into the beginning of the week, and being back at work. Thank you all for such a lovely weekend; I am already considering joining future retreats."

"Our Marrakech Wellbeing Weekend exceeded all expectations. The Riad was perfect - a wonderful atmosphere for yoga. We have been so well looked after - the meals were healthy, varied and out of this world. In the space of a few days, I have achieved so much with my yoga practice and felt so relaxed. Marrakech is beautiful. Thank you for hosting an amazing weekend."

"If you are looking for the perfect yoga break, Satvada's Croatian retreat fits the bill. Yoga and meditation twice a day just meters from the beach, in a glorious, peaceful setting. Daily walks through the olive groves - along the picturesque coastline or in the hills to the monastery - offer the opportunity to discover the beauty of the Island and the friendliness of the people. The villa is lovely and several rooms have a wonderful sea view. The food is a mouthwatering vegetarian gourmet treat! You will never be hungry! We loved it so much that we've booked another break with Satvada."

"Having looked at several yoga retreats, we took 'pot luck' when we booked with Satvada. We couldn't have been luckier - the retreat in Croatia was perfect. Yoga sessions were tailored to suit the experience and ability of all the guests, providing both challenge and relaxation. In spite of not really being 'into' meditation I found these sessions appealing. The silent walk along the coast was delightful; a totally new and enjoyable experience. The venue - a beautiful villa close to the beach - was idyllic; the view from the yoga terrace (of flowers, sea and mountains) provided a stunning backdrop. All our needs were catered for - especially at meal times: local produce, from a garden adjacent to the villa, cooked to perfection. Walks were led by friendly guides; the pool and beach, together with the company of other guests, ensured a memorable holiday. It was all over much too soon."

"Having spent time looking for a relaxed holiday suitable for a solo traveler, I couldn't be happier that I picked the Croatian retreat. The villa was beautiful and the other guests (of all ages and abilities) were welcoming and friendly. We were all wonderfully looked after - not least in terms of the plentiful and delicious vegetarian food! Some great walks, exploring parts of the island we wouldn't have found on our own, were arranged for us so we didn't have to worry about anything except turning up with the right footwear. The daily yoga sessions were rejuvenating in the mornings, setting us up for the day, and relaxing and meditative in the evenings, ready for dinner and wine or simply a nap by the pool. I liked the teacher's encouraging approach, helping us all go further in our practice, no matter how experienced or new to yoga we were. I've recommended Satvada to friends and am already planning my next holiday with them. I know I'll be well looked after and come home feeling refreshed and with a new enthusiasm for my yoga classes."

"Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for a lovely Wellbeing Weekend in Marrakech. I got so much out of my time there and met some wonderful people. Since returning home, I have kept up my practice and find meditation so much easier to accomplish, which was one of my aims of the weekend. The hosts at the Marrakech Riad were so welcoming and accommodating, and each meal was fresh, delicious and authentic; the experience was as if eating at someone's house; a real privilege."

"I just wanted to write to thank you for a lovely weekend in Suffolk, and also for the lift to the train station. I really feel like I have learned a lot from the past couple of days - from both the yoga and mindfulness classes, and from the other people on retreat. It was also really great to allow myself some time to go for a run, and the massages were wonderful!"

"I can't recommend Satvada enough for the first-time yoga retreater! All my fears about being too inexperienced at yoga to go on a retreat were instantly allayed in the first class. Lucia's teaching style is wonderfully personal so that everybody in the class is looked after and encouraged individually. I felt a deeper connection with my practice developing over the course of the retreat that has left me with more commitment to and enthusiasm for yoga-a great boost for the novice student! Lucia's experience, knowledge and attitude were truly inspiring. The evening meditation sessions were relaxing and energising but also gave us an insight into the benefits of integrating yoga and meditation into daily life to reduce stress and increase wellbeing. All this was accompanied by huge doses of laughter, a great mix of people, delicious food, a stunning Riad and the beauty and hospitality of Morocco. I can't wait for the next one."

"I loved the weekend and felt very relaxed driving home. I found the yoga stimulating and, although I have been practicing for a long time, I learnt lots and liked your approach so thank you. The accommodation at Potash barns is great; food, ambiance also lovely! I also think the mindfulness meditation combined with yoga is a great combination, they really compliment each other and Shamash is a great teacher. So it's all good from me and I hope to be able to come to another retreat....abroad if possible!"

"Thank you for a wonderfully restorative weekend at Potash Barns, Suffolk. It is rare to find a package that more than lives up to its promotional description. Before we arrived we were a little concerned about our suitability for the classes, both in terms of experience and personal fitness. However, we were immediately reassured by the small class. We also really enjoyed the accommodation, our own private lounge, friendly hosts and the walks in lovely peaceful surroundings of the Suffolk countryside. The food did not disappoint and was another highlight. I was impressed by the lengths taken by the hosts to accommodate all the dietary requirements and we loved the great variety of vegetarian dishes; also, time spent just chatting. I am already looking forward to the next weekend."
