Yoga

Your Santo Tomas retreat is a yoga retreat for all levels of experience. Whether you are new to yoga or a seasoned yogi, your experience with Santo Tomas Retreats will be enriching, exhilarating and liberating. Their certified yoga instructor will guide retreat guests through meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques), and asanas (stretching, sun salutations, strengthening, and balance postures) to center your body and mind and to rejuvenate the spirit.

Classes are based in Hatha, Vinyasa flow, Restorative, and Yin/Yang styles that are open to all levels of experience. There will be a focus on the breath connected to the movement, where each pose links to the previous pose, creating a continuous “flow” of movement. A variety of breathing and meditation techniques in addition to longer holds in a pose will also be taught depending on the particular class focus. The intention of these classes is to invite you to show up exactly as you are and to promote self-expression in the practice of yoga. To start where you are, use what you have, do what you can, and be comfortable in your practice and experience while stretching the possibilities.

There will be an evening and morning class on the private terrace of the retreat home overlooking the beautiful golf course and lake. Morning classes tend to be more energizing and afternoon sunset classes are gentle in nature (slower and more meditative). With this daily combination, you will receive a sense of what it means to embody ‘graceful balance and strength’ in your life.

Excursion

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is located 5 miles south of Page, Arizona. It is an incredible natural vista definitely worth a visit. The name was inspired by its unusual shape, a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Just a few miles from Glen Canyon Dam and the popular Lake Powell, the best view is from the steep cliff above Horseshoe Bend.

Horseshoe Bend’s overlook is 4,200 feet above sea level, and the Colorado River is 3,200 feet above sea level, which gives this scenic view a breathtaking 1,000-foot drop.

You will hike 3/4 mile from US Route 89 to view Horseshoe Bend from the cliff overlook. The trail is steep in some areas and has some areas of deep sand, so be prepared for a little bit of a challenge despite the short distance. Once you are at the overlook you will have plenty of time to enjoy the view and take pictures. You will also enjoy a crystal singing sound meditation to prepare for the boat tour adventure along at the bottom of the canyon around Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River the following morning.

Colorado River Paddle Boarding

Your 30-mile boat tour on the Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry to Glen Canyon Dam and back will be epic and possibly the best part of the retreat. You will travel 15 miles on the Colorado River around Horseshoe Bend to Glen Canyon Dam to see and learn about the Dam from below. You will then travel back towards Horseshoe Bend get off the boat to take a small hike to explore Petroglyphs and the then paddleboard or kayak around Horseshoe Bend. You will have a picnic lunch and meditation on the canyon beach of Horseshoe Bend and then get back on the boats for a ride back to Lee’s Ferry. retreat experience includes Paddle Boarding on the Colorado River around Horseshoe Bend.

As part of a 30-mile round trip Boat Tour from Lees Ferry and Glen Canyon Dam and back you will stop just north of Horseshoe Bend. You will paddleboard downstream (3/4 mile) around the most beautiful part of the canyon to enjoy seeing and experiencing Horseshoe Bend from its base. Kayaking is also available instead of paddleboarding or you can stay on the boat.

Glen Canyon Dam

Page, Arizona overlooks famed Glen Canyon Dam and scenic Lake Powell, which sits astride the Arizona/Utah border. You will visit the dam from the top at the Glen Canyon Dam Visitor Center and will also visit the bottom of the dam on a 30-mile boat tour on the Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry to Glen Canyon Dam and back.

Petroglyph Walk

You will stop at Boater’s Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand found downstream on the Colorado River from the Glen Canyon Dam to hike an approximately 0.25-mile round trip trail to see ancient Petroglyphs.

Desert bighorn sheep, geometric shapes, and hunting scenes are all depicted on the impressive petroglyph panel located deep within the walls of Glen Canyon. The panel is yours to explore in an intimate setting.

Antelope Canyon

Guided tour to Upper Antelope Canyon – Chief Tsosie’s guides with Antelope Slot Canyon Tours know all the hot spots and they will guide you through an amazing natural wonder of Antelope Canyon. They will provide you with the secret knowledge of photographing the beams and dance with the sand. You will have little chance to be alone in the canyon on this tour, nor will you be able to hear the quiet that some of the other tour-times provide, but this tour is a photographic extravaganza. This tour is lead with precision and experience.

1 p.m. (peak hour): the colors are fairly uniform throughout the canyon and visibility is good. The north end is slowly becoming the brightest, most colorful end. Some of the people are beginning to thin out, which allows you a more personal experience. A marvelous blend of color, shape, and majesty will strike you on this tour!

Lake Powell

Enjoy downtime at the beach and in the beautiful water at Lake Powell. Lone Rock Beach (part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area) is just across the border from Arizona in Utah and only a 5-minute drive from the retreat home.
