The accommodation options at Hotel Santa Catalina are on private, double, and triple room basis. Santa Catalina Retreats wants to make your experience as natural and comfortable as possible and they believe you can enjoy quality retreat accommodation without the high prices.

All the rooms have memory foam mattresses, plush pillows, and Egyptian cotton sheets. The rooms also has fans, air conditioners, refrigerators, blow dryers, cable televisions, and locked storage areas, plus hammocks and outdoor tables with chairs for the perfect relaxation spot

All rooms have been built using natural sustainable materials including stone, slate rock, natural coal tile, and tropical hardwoods, preserving the environment while providing a blissful haven for you to unwind after a day of surf or yoga. The hotel is secluded and nestled in nature, the property backs onto the pacific ocean, giving you your own private beach.

It also offers the most spectacular view of the world famous surf break, La Punta. During high tides, you can also take the kayaks and stand up paddle boards out. There are wonderful islands surrounding Santa Catalina worth exploring plus it is a great work out. The tranquil location makes it the perfect place to disconnect and take some time out. You can chill on a hammock with a good book, sprawl out on the spacious lawns, lounge by the pool overlooking the pacific ocean, or enjoy a sunset drink at the restaurant bar.

Day 1 - Thursday, December 1, 2016

  • 12:00 Santa Catalina Retreats will pick you up from from Panama City Airport (PTY) in front of the American Trade Hotel in Casco Viejo.
  • 18:00 Arrive at Hotel Santa Catalina and check in. Refresh and join the group for a light and healthy welcome supper under the stars.

Day 2 to 4 - Friday to Sunday, December 2 to 4, 2016

  • You will be starting your days with a glass of purified water with a freshly squeezed lemon juice. You will also engage in a morning energizing Vinyasa class and meditation.
  • A full day will be dedicated to the special "Eat to Live: Healing your body through food" workshop.
  • Another day will be for the group boat trip to Santa Catalina Island with stand up paddle boarding and snorkeling.
  • For the next day, a group surf session will be held.
  • You get to enjoy three healthy and light vegetarian meals per day including juices, smoothies, and herbal teas.
  • Every evening, there will be a relaxing yoga class and journaling.

Day 5 - Monday, December 5, 2016

Diving and snorkeling

Coiba Island is one of Panama’s most beautiful places and is a on and a half hour boat ride from Playa Santa Catalina. Identified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2005, the island is still relatively undeveloped with over 80% of its natural habitat intact. The beaches are exquisite and the island and surrounding areas offer spectacular diving and snorkeling.

Santa Catalina has three Professional Association of Diving Instructors certified dive centers with trips going out most days, so they can help you build in a dive or snorkel into your retreat week.

Eat to live: Healing your body through food workshop

During this workshop, you will explore how toxins of the modern world are affecting you on many levels and explore ways in which food and natural remedies can help you break through. You will be guided through food and daily detox practices that will help you stay healthy and lively.

Health coach consultation

As a holistic health coach, Aurora offers her coaching sessions to people around the world. if you have any concerns about your health or lifestyle, Aurora will be offering consultations during this retreat and the first one is free. During the consultation, you are invited to express any concerns or inquiries into your health and well being and together, identify the areas where you need guidance.

Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding

Santa Catalina Retreats offers free use of kayaks and SUP boards with your retreat stay. You can take off right out at the back of Hotel Santa Catalina and catch some waves or paddle out to one of the surrounding islands.

Surf lesson

The surf lessons will be held at the warm waters of Playa Estero, one of The best beach breaks in Central America for beginners and intermediate surfers. It is a quiet, fun, and uncrowded beach with a gentle soft sand bottom, breaking left and right, offering smaller and more gentle waves for beginners on the south side and more challenging waves on the north.

The water is warm all year round so there is no need for a wetsuit, but Santa Catalina Retreats will provide you with a rash vest for comfort and extra protection from the sun. There is a range of soft and hard boards, so you can feel confident you will have the right board for your level.

A great surf instructor can make all the difference. At Santa Catalina Retreats, the experienced local instructors have been surfing and teaching at Santa Catalina beaches for many years. They are very familiar with the breaks, so you can feel confident that you are in safe hands with the most experienced and skillful instructors. They are patient, encouraging, and most of all fun. Whether you want to learn to stand up for the first time or start to perfect a bottom turn, the instructors will help you achieve your goals.

You will have a boat trip to the beautiful and secluded Santa Catalina island for a stand up paddle boarding and snorkeling.

  • Aurora Brenes

    Aurora is a Panamanian certified Vinyasa yoga instructor with a deep practice in both Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga. Aurora has had the opportunity to study with great teachers including Sean Corne, Melanie Fawer, Nathalie Croix, Bryce Yoga, Day Christensen, Kino McGregor, and Mariela Cruz.

The retreat will be held in Santa Catalina, Panama. The town is about a five-hour drive south west of Panama City on the Pacific Coast. With its remote location, the village remains fairly undeveloped since being discovered by adventurous surfers in the 1970s. %With a handful of small, locally owned hotels, restaurants and bars, and with cows and horses roaming the nearby fields and streets, you will instantly feel the laid-back vibe that has made Santa Catalina a haven for surfers, adventure travelers, and dedicated relaxation seekers.

You will have three light and healthy vegetarian meals per day, including juices, smoothies, and herbal teas. Breakfast on your departure day also included and there will be a light and healthy vegetarian welcome supper at Santa Catalina's waterfront restaurant under the stars.

Dining in Santa Catalina is relaxed, inexpensive, and delicious. All restaurants are open-air and the food is homemade and very fresh. Seafood caught daily by the fishermen includes red snappers, lobsters, tunas, mahi mahis, wahoos, crabs, and jumbo shrimps. All of these are served up in the local restaurants in their own unique and flavorsome way.

The favorites in the island are the red snapper ceviche and the lobster tacos. In addition to seafood there are also tasty and wood-fired pizza, Italian, Argentinean, and authentic Panamanian food. Santa Catalina Retreats will give you all the tips for dining out during your welcome dinner. You can also buy seafood direct from the fishermen and cook up on your own.

Bird watching

A large variety of birds inhabit the tropical rainforest surrounding Santa Catalina. You can take your own stroll and catch some stunning sights, or a guided walking tour can be arranged for you with one of Santa Catalina's local guides. Coiba Island is an especially superb area for a guided tour.

Horseback riding

The local horseman, Pedro, and his family can take you on a laid-back or exhilarating ride through the lush forest or the beach side. Pedro's horses are very well looked after and are very friendly. You will often find one or two taking a solo stroll through the streets of Santa Catalina.

You can book massage treatments at an additional cost. Completely unwind with the certified massage therapist, Michelle Miller. She offers a range of treatments including deep and connective tissue massage, Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, sports massage, Thai, and Ashiatsu, where she will walk on you. Michelle combines these style to create a healing massage to suit your specific needs.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Panama City Airport (PTY). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Santa Catalina Retreats will pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by taxi

Taxis are easy, safe, and abundant. There is an authorized taxi stand outside the main exit of the airport. If travelling alone, expect to pay up to 35 USD to Casco Viejo. You can also agree to wait for other passengers and split the fare to make to make it cheaper. The drive into town is about 30 minutes without traffic.

    "We were visiting from Cincinnati, Oh. Although I am from Panamanian, I had never been in Santa Catalina before. Took my family and we were a total of 8 individuals. Rooms are beautiful, very subtle but cozy, roomy, bathrooms were cleaned and spacious. One of our favorite things were the hamacas outside. Excellent to relax. The hotel is located close to a lot of small restaurants and the food was delicious. The walk at night was amazing. The pool with view of the ocean was amazing. And the service was the best. Everybody was very helpful and courteous. We are definitely coming back, we are even considering this hotel for our wedding !!!!!"

Vickie and Sergio were amazing hosts and everyone that I met along the way was equally as splendid. The people in the village truly are so carefree and friendly, which was a breath of fresh air! Our yoga instructor for the weekend, Michelle, was a great girl who gave us the space to create what we wanted for our yoga practice on the retreat. She also had amazing organic food for us! The surfing was held on a sandy beach which was great for beginners or the moderate level. The local boys who taught us were so patient and friendly! If you're an active person and are looking to get away, this is totally for you! I can't wait to visit again!"

My time in Santa Catalina was filled with activity but while well scheduled (as a daily yoga and surf lesson require) was flexible enough to never feel rushed. The instruction in both yoga and surfing were excellent (thank you Michelle, Keone, and Sergio). Each of the meals I had at the various places in Santa Catalina was a delight - fresh ingredients and presentation combined to great effect. Mid-December was a great time of year to visit, soon after the rainy season in Panama, as the surroundings are green and lush. These and other aspects to my stay combined to create a wonderful, active, relaxing vacation."

    "I'm a certified yoga instructor and studio owner from Seattle, Washington, so of course while on vacation in Santa Catalina, Panama, attending a yoga class was on my bucket list. Michelle Miller, yoga instructor and studio owner, is a talented teacher with a gentle soul who gets to live and practice in a breathtaking location. The class I took from her was a gentle Hatha flow in her beautifully appointed tree house studio overlooking the jungle, with a consistent breeze and ocean sounds. Michelle's style is very personal, precise, and clear and I found her to be a very knowledgeable instructor. She made what is typically a difficult practice for me seem easy. Thanks Michelle! As a professional yoga instructor, I would highly recommend Michelle and her studio to any level student and I hope to have the opportunity to work with her again someday in the future."
