Detox, de-stress, and heal your entire being with the enchanted schedule of restorative meditation and yoga! This is the perfect retreat to discover the basics of meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda, and receive the tools to continue your transformation long after you return home. All activities in the program are included and the opportunity to attend all of the yoga and meditation sessions. The schedule is designed to include two yoga classes a day, apart from Friday which will only include one yoga class after your arrival.
Sanctuary Hill is nestled in the tranquil Ridgewood suburb, which is a lifestyle block area of New Plymouth, surrounded by lush greenery and magnificent Mount Taranaki views. The Retreat Wing consists of two double dormitories with a full kitchen, a lounge, and bathroom facilities. The yoga studio building has been positioned to absorb the views of natural surroundings facilitating 80 square meters of open floor space.
There are two bathrooms to serve this building and one shower. The yoga studio building holds additional two bedrooms to serve retreat guests. The bedrooms are designed with your comfort in mind with comfortable beds and woven cotton sheets. Sanctuary Hill is surrounded by the lush greenery of the Taranaki region.
During this immersion, you can walk around the property to enjoy the views of Mt. Taranaki, listen to the birds of the region, walk through the orchard, and visit the different areas around the property.
For this retreat, you may choose to join either for a three or four days program depending on your desired length of stay with Sanctuary Hill. Morning classes are intended to be with more movement to start that day and warm-up, in this retreat, you will focus on Gentle and De-stressing practices. The evening classes are a restorative style to prepare you for a good night's sleep. Sanctuary Hill specializes in Traditional Hatha and Restorative styles.
Beginners to yoga will get an introduction to yoga postures, breathing practices, and relaxation techniques while the more experienced will be guided in how to deepen their practice. Sanctuary Hill feels dedicated to your personal evolution. The team of wellness experts provides workshops and education to help you achieve your health-related goals.
The guest speakers and lifestyle mentors support deep inner work to facilitate lasting and real change on your mindset and perspective toward healthy living. Learn more about quality sleep, stress management, healthy eating habits, and food choices to take home knowledge that sustains your well-being.
On Saturday, you will dive into the neuroscience of Self-Care and Rest. You will talk about essential information about what happens when you stress. Through simple language, you will learn how your body and mind change when you become tired, sick, and things that affect your performance.
Sanctuary Hill will provide a safe space for participants to feel comfortable, sharing and giving you an opportunity to listen deeply and express authentically. The aim of these workshops is to encourage people to understand that the love they give to themselves, from themselves, is to be valued and used daily.
During the retreat, Sanctuary Hill will allow time for guests to enjoy a 30-minute session of their choice as reflexology, reiki, scalp, and neck, or alike through specialized therapists. Guests are encouraged to pre-book their preferred time to enjoy this therapy session. This is an ideal treat to de-stress and rejuvenate yourself.
You will enjoy a Sound Healing evening session on Saturday. This is a form of vibrational healing that works on the energy system of the body in ways similar to Homoeopathy, Crystal Healing, Reiki, and Bach flower remedies to name a few. The crystal "singing" bowl is made of quartz and the effect upon the body and consciousness of the individual is tremendous.
Crystal Sound baths help to facilitate a shift in your brain waves so that a deep state of meditation and internal healing can occur. Crystal sound therapy is just one way of achieving a meditative state without having to master the practice of meditation. This experience is perfect for beginners, however, those more experienced can reach a theta state (deep meditation) or even a delta state (where internal healing can occur).
Silent walking meditation will be practiced through the retreat. This practice is designed to bring body and mind in sync. Meditating while walking is a way to get the mind to walk with you and to bring a relaxed focus to your every day.

Bhavani is the co-founder of Sanctuary Hill Retreat. She has been teaching yoga for the last 10 years. Her foundation began in traditional Hatha yoga. She also loves the therapeutic approach and has studied in depth Restorative yoga and yoga therapy. She is a mother of two and knows and respects the value of self-care. Bhavani brings a range of skills and knowledge and her strength lies in being able to support each individual's needs on their personal journey. She is from Mexico but has been living in New Zealand for the last nine years. She loves the outdoors and being immersed in nature.
Ram is a co-founder of Sanctuary Hill Retreat. His background is in traditional Hatha yoga which he began teaching 15 years ago. Since then, he has studied in-depth the workings of the mind and has extensive knowledge of yoga philosophy. He also loves Kirtan and the mystical world of mantra. Ram is also a highly qualified chef and loves pushing the boundaries on creating outstanding food that is plant-based and solely focused on being good for you. He enjoys growing the food he uses and sourcing local ingredients. On a retreat, Ram brings a calm and nurturing energy.
New Plymouth is a city on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It’s known for its coastal walkway stretching from Bell Block to Port Taranaki. Te Rewa Rewa Bridge has views of towering Mount Taranaki. The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery shows contemporary exhibitions. Close by, Pukekura Park has botanical gardens and birdlife. Subalpine forests and waterfalls characterize Egmont National Park to the south.
The carefully prepared meals at Sanctuary Hill have a special mention on their guide. The chef crafts extraordinary menus that are rich in natural, whole foods and herbs and contain no artificial substances or common allergens. The chef prepares all meals with seasonal, organic, locally available ingredients and with as much naturally grown ingredients from their own garden.

Extend your stay at Sanctuary Hill before or after the retreat. You can enjoy the daily yoga classes from their schedule during your extended stay.

New Plymouth Airport

Sanctuary Hill is located only a 15-minute drive from the New Plymouth Airport (NPL). Sanctuary Hill is happy to organize a shuttle service with an independent specialized company that normally charges 35 NZD one-way.
Starting October 2019, you can request a ride with Uber so that you can move seamlessly from A to B in New Plymouth. New Plymouth is the major city of the Taranaki Region on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
Notable features are the botanic gardens (i.e. Pukekura Park), the critically acclaimed Len Lye Centre and Art Gallery, the 11-kilometer (6.8 miles) coastal walkway alongside the Tasman Sea, the Len Lye-designed artwork known as the Wind Wand, Paritutu Rock, and views of Mount Taranaki/Egmont. New Plymouth Airport (NPL) has daily services from Air New Zealand and Jetstar airlines.
The airport is located on Airport Drive, Bell Block, approximately 12 kilometers (15 minutes) from the center of New Plymouth. It is well serviced with daily flights provided by two companies to and from all main New Zealand centers. Air New Zealand provides regular flights between New Plymouth and other centers.
