We stay in a welcoming and family-friendly boutique hostel in a beautiful location with mountain views. Located within the famous Golden Circle sightseeing trail, our retreat place overlooks Lake Laugarvatn, Hekla Volcano and the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. Set in a 1920s former school building, it offers private rooms, which feature bright décor, lake or mountain views and access to a shared kitchen and TV lounge.
It’s a great place to enjoy the Northern Lights, and you’ll also be close to many activities and natural gems in South Iceland. The land is magical in winter dress when the auroras dance along the inky-black sky.
This takes you around the Golden Circle to see three of Iceland’s highlights Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park.
There will be two yoga practices each day, one in the morning or before dinner except on arrival and departure dates. Hatha yoga flow to wake us up in the morning and a gentle or yin yoga to nourish the body and mind in the late afternoon or early evening. Guided meditation and pranayama complement our practice. All levels and abilities are welcome. Limited number of yoga mats and props are available. Bring your own mat if possible. You also do not have to do any yoga.
Thingvellir National Park and the famous Geysir Hot Spring are within 25 km. Gullfoss Waterfall is 38 km away. Laugarvatn Geothermal Bath is right next to the property. Popular area activities include hiking in the Highlands and fishing in Lake Laugarvatn.
During this retreat, you will be served daily breakfasts, lunch box, and a two-course dinner. Heradsskolin's kitchen chef is fully committed to using local and seasonal products as much as possible, and serves you delicious meals in the spacious restaurant which has a wonderful view over the surrounding mountains. Their menu changes every week depending on the availability of fresh ingredients in the area.
Popular area activities include hiking in the Highlands and fishing in Lake Laugarvatn. View the northern lights right from the front porch of the hotel, the light pollution in the area is practically non-existent and the panoramic view of the night sky surrounding the hotel is phenomenal. Take self-drive day tours from the hotel to various exciting destinations.

Optional visit to the Laugarvatn Fontana, a modern complex with various hot tubs and steam baths naturally heated by Icelandic hot springs as well as a lunch buffet at the Laugarvatn Fontana and have a taste of geothermal baked bread at the Geothermal Bakery.
Fontana Spa is two minutes away and you can go for a dip in the geothermal pool anytime at your own cost.
