Join the Belgian Sampoorna team for a yoga weekend retreat at the beautiful Château Frandeux in the Ardennes. You will learn from certified (US Yoga Alliance 500 hours) yoga instructors and you will return recharged and rebalanced on all levels.

The Château and its surrounding buildings, the Écurie, and the Boulangerie, are arranged as group accommodation which can accommodate up to 80 people. There are different multi-activity rooms, a wellness center, and a 25 acre private domain that gives you the space to enjoy your stay.

The Château

The Château consists of 18 bedrooms. The rooms are decorated in various categories, from plain and simple to comfortable and luxurious, and located on the first and second floor, with stunning views of the surrounding environment. There are single, double and triple rooms with and without shower, so prices are ranged depending on the type of accommodation. All beds are made on arrival and equipped with a set of towels. The Château is facilitated with:

The Écurie

The Écurie is a beautiful large room where up to 140 conference chairs can be placed to give lectures, training sessions, and others. In addition, the room is also suitable for dancing, practicing yoga and meditation, as well as conducting workshops.

Because the Écurie does not have its own kitchen, it serves as an additional accommodation besides the Château and / or Boulangerie. There are several bedrooms and a multi-functional room, "The Peacock Room”, which you can use for whatever you like or need.


The luxurious “gîte”, the Boulangerie, is situated on the domain of Château Frandeux. It possesses all the necessary comforts for a pleasant stay. The area offers a rich variety of recreation, such as: hiking, biking, kayaking, and visiting historical places.

The “gîte” is a great base for various excursions throughout the year. It is ideally suited for family and friends gatherings, but also offers enough room for other forms of residence.

The domain of Château Frandeux is situated on the outskirts of the Belgian Ardennes, in the Les Famennes region and belongs to the province of Namur in Wallonia. The area is also called "The Valley Country", a land with castles and a rich and varied heritage. The village of Frandeux is formed by some 40 houses and is situated in the valley of the Vachau.

The domain is located in a tranquil nature reserve. On the domain, there is a small lake, an idyllic location in the forest with an overflow to the lake, where the Château is situated. The lake is excellent for swimming.

Adjoining the lake, there is 25 acres of private forest with a beautiful river valley where you can walk freely and enjoy what the seasons have to offer. In the area there are lots of wildlife, including wild boar and deer. There are beautiful old beech and oak trees, as well as two open spaces or fields in the forest.

Through a wrought iron gate, you can see a beautiful, circular driveway to the Château. This Anglo-Norman style estate is characterized by many little developments and typical slate roofing.

What to expect

In this retreat, you will have the chance to practice Hatha yoga in order to cleanse your body and energy system. Hatha yoga practice will be conducted twice a day with breathing exercises, yoga postures, and deep relaxation. This practice is suitable for all levels. Beginners will receive special attention and advanced students will get the challenges they need to develop further. Special focus of the Hatha yoga sessions will be cleansing.

Nada yoga will also be practiced in this retreat. Nada yoga or ‘yoga of sound’ will cleanse your energy system. Rhythm and melody is common to everything in nature, and you will explore sound vibrations by both listening to and producing sound. You will experience the healthful effects of sound on all levels - physical, mental, and spiritual.

Not only that, you will also practice daily guided and silent meditation. You will use the precious hours of the early morning to move towards the state of highest concentration and creativity by turning the mind inwards. Repetitive singing of mantras as well as vibrational manifestations of aspects of the divine are also very effective and beautiful methods to concentrate the mind and to purify the heart. You don’t need to be a good singer to experience the power of chanting!

Driving directions from Antwerp

  • Take exit A19 direction Brussels.
  • Just before Brussels, take exit E411 and continue towards Namur / Luxembourg.
  • Leave the E411 at exit 22, and follow the direction to Rochefort.
  • Then, take the first left turn (still following Rochefort sign).
  • After about 5 kilometers, after a sharp S-bend, turn left before a traffic sign where 4 villages are named on: Briquemont, Laloux, Frandeux, and Buissonville. The sign appears suddenly after a house with light blue colored window frames.
  • Follow this narrow secondary road for approximately 2 kilometers until Château Frandeux shows up on your left, just before the village of Frandeux,
  • Pass the entrance of the B&B ‘Ferme de Frandeux’ and follow some 50 meters up a narrow road.
  • On your left, you will see an iron gate where there is a sign that says ‘Château Frandeux’.

Driving directions from Liege

  • Follow the sign that says ‘Namur’.
  • At Namur, take the exit E411 direction to Luxembourg.
  • Follow the highway up to exit 22, Rochefort.
  • From here, the instruction is the same as above.

Arrival by bus

The buses leave from the station in Jemmelle to Fandeux. They will stop in a bus stop near the Château. For more information on bus schedule, please visit

If you travel by train from Brussels and Liège, the train stops every hour in Jemelle.

Course information

Full participation in all activities is highly recommended. Please do not use perfume, strong smelling aftershave, etc. during this retreat. Smoking is also not allowed.

What to bring

You are encouraged to bring a yoga mat (also available onsite for sale), sitting cushion, blanket to keep warm during relaxation, notebook, pen, and any personal items you may need.

Erwin Eknath Vanslembrouck

Eknath, from Belgium, decided to lower the volume and slow down the tempo after 25 years as a professional musician (Erwin Vann). He has been practicing tai chi, Aikido, yoga and chi kung for many years. In his teens, while practicing the saxophone, he learned yogic breathing techniques. Eknath started practicing yoga in 1994 and followed workshops and retreats with several teachers until he finally took the Sampoorna Yoga Teacher Training with Yogi Hari in 2008-2009. In May 2010, Eknath co-founded the Sampoorna Yoga Studio in Brussels. Besides as a father of two, Eknath is also a certified teacher of yoga for kids.

Hanna Summanen

Hanna, from Finland, first discovered yoga in 2001 during a burn-out after many years of corporate career. She personally experienced the amazing healing and transformation that yoga can bring on all levels and wanted to share what she had learned. Hanna followed the Sampoorna yoga teacher training with Yogi Hari in 2008. Together with Eknath, Hanna is a co-founder of the Sampoorna Yoga Studio in Brussels. She also continues to work part-time as a consultant and trainer. She sometimes introduces yoga tools in business challenges.

Vyasa Ameeuw

Vyasa, from Germany, has been practicing meditation and yoga since 2000. After meeting Shri Yogi Hari in 2003, Vyasa left his home town and his engineering job in Germany to study yoga intensively in the traditional way, living in close contact with the guru. He spent two years at Yogi Hari’s ashram in Florida, studying all paths of yoga including Nada yoga (voice, harmonium, and tabla), and he assisted a lot of teacher training. Currently, Vyasa lives with his wife Gauri and their children in Bruges and works as an engineer, shiatsu therapist, and yoga teacher.

Gauri Ameeuw

Gauri, from Belgium, has been practicing yoga since 2001. She started practicing yoga as her weekly schedule because of lower back pain emerged quickly as a thorough voyage to her inner self. In 2004 and 2005, she did the yoga training courses at Yogi Hari’s Ashram in Florida where she also met her husband, Vyasa. Today, she combines raising three kids with working as a school teacher and yoga instructor. She joyfully and consciously accepts the challenge to apply yogic principles in her daily live.
