300-hours Yoga Teacher Training Syllabus

Pavanmuktasana I,II, and III

The preparatory exercises aim to release energetic or physical blocks in the body before the asana practice. This practice intends to release tension and stiffness in the joints brings awareness to the body and the breath. Also, eliminate energy blockages in the spine, activate the lungs and heart, and improve endocrine function.

Suryanamaskar, Chandranamaskar

This topic covers practice and teaching traditional Suryanamaskar with variations. Teaching each pose separately with its alignment, then focusing on linking the postures together and coordinating the breath with the movement. Chandranamaskar relates to the fourteen lunar phases. The lunar energy flows within Ida Nadi.

Restorative yoga

The body is fully supported by the props so that there is no strain on any part of the body. The aim is to create a completely relaxed state that encourages a parasympathetic nervous system response in the body, taking us away from our predominant fight and flight response.

Intermediate Asanas

Practising and teaching group of standing, sitting, and forward bend and lateral extension Using poses like sitting asanas offer the opportunity to root into the ground and find lightness above the pelvis. Lateral extension asanas stretch shoulders, hips, and back; increases circulation; tones abdomen; strengthens oblique. Backward bending asanas are stimulating and extroverting because they expand the chest and encourage the inhalation. An inversion is most generally categorized as any asana in which the head is below the heart.

Advanced group of asanas

In order to start practising the advanced group of asanas, one has to master the beginning and intermediate level, balancing poses with variations. Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin and Partner Yoga will be practised, and opportunity will be given for leading the classes. To practice advanced asanas requires flexibility, strength, and balance. Asanas affect the body, mind, emotions, chakras, energy, and overall wellbeing.

Shatkriyas

This is 6 Yogic purification methods to purify and clean the body eventually mind, and it has an excellent effect on emotions too. These Kriyas balances three doshas and brings harmony to the body. These practices are also used before pranayama and other higher yoga practices to ensure a safe and successful progression on yoga path.

Yogic Diet

Diet has the most significant role in our lives and an essential aspect of maintaining good health with proper yogic diet. Yogic diet cooking and recipes, web links will be shared in the training. The yogic diet is also called Sattvic food, which follows the principle of Ahimsa; non-violence, not harming or killing any animal for the food. Students will be able to understand the importance of yogic diet on path of yoga.

Advanced Pranayama

Pranayama is an expansion of the breath. Pranayama turns unconscious breathing pattern into conscious deep breathing to activate dormant energy channels in the body. The techniques of pranayama are rhythmic controlled breathing which involves inhalation, exhalation, and internal and external breath retention.

Pranayama utilizes breathing to influence the flow of prana in the nadis or energy channels of the pranayama kosha or energy body, gives a calming effect in the brain and mind. An advanced pranayama practice stimulates the chakras and Kundalini energy.

Bandhas and Mudras

The Bandhas aim to lock the pranas in particular areas and redirect their flow into Sushumna Nadi for spiritual awakening. Students will be able to relate the use of specific mudras and their effect on the energetic and physical body through practising the mudras throughout the course.

Practicing meditations

Without Meditation Yoga is incomplete. Understanding what meditation is, how to meditate, what are the obstacles in meditation. Transcending ego, opening the chakras, working on Kundalini. Tantric meditations, Vipassana meditation, Chakra meditation, Dance Meditation, Kundalini Meditation and practising traditional and contemporary meditation techniques.

Teaching Yoga classes

Teaching various Yoga styles with Yoga sequence with safe alignment. Making a theme for Youth, female-centred, male-focused, elderly classes. A discussion on the appropriate physical intensity of a level. Integrating physical, breathing, and meditation practice within the class setting. Practice teaching gives confidence and experience in teaching yoga classes in presence of lead yoga teacher in the training. Practice teaching includes various asana sequences, pranayama, Mudras, Bandhas, meditation, and Kriyas.

Assisting and adjusting while another yoga teacher is teaching

This is the way to develop more awareness about the class, students poses, their strength, and alignment. Knowing about the bodies in specific asanas and adjusting and applying anatomical principles.

Observing others teaching, assisting and adjusting students

In the group watching the class while another teacher is teaching is a perfect way to learn the positive qualities and mistakes from the teacher, and seeing students also can be useful learning how they are doing asanas, pranayama.

Human physical anatomy in depth to understand Yogic practice and effect on human body and mind.

Physiology will help to understand the subtle energy, chakras, nadis and more. Understanding various body systems like digestive, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, reproductive, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems. Practicing and applying tension and compression theory relating to the joint and muscular movements in asanas. Apart from various body systems the lectures on the kinesiology of the spine and vertebra, fascia, levers, biomechanics of the postures, and muscle physiology and functional anatomy.

Yoga philosophy

Studying yoga philosophy, its origin, aim, and tradition. History of yoga and its evolution, various yoga styles focused on specific goals. Lectures on Hathayogpradipika by Swami Swatmarama, Shivsutra and Vigyan Bhairav tantra by Shiva, Gorakhsanhita by Guru Gorakhanath from Nath tradition. Studying Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - There are many milestones on the path of yoga, and Patanjali is one of the most influenced Yogi in the yoga tradition.

Bhagwadgita With lots of wisdom shared by Sri Krishna to his disciple Arjuna on the war field of Mahabharata. Sri Krishna responds to Arjunas questions and gives him knowledge of various paths of realization. In the end, Arjunas questions were cleared and he receives wisdom from Sri Krishna.

Karma Yoga

Understanding the path of Karma yoga, how effective it is in the way of yoga and practicing karma yoga in day-to-day life. Keeping the yoga shala clean and neat and creating a pure space by burning incense before and after the classes.

Mantra Chanting

Mantra chanting practice will give confidence to students to continue this tradition and share this practice in their classes. The differences between mantra chanting, singing bhajan and kirtan will be explained by the method.
