Samdhana Yoga Level One Teacher Training Morocco Program

The program starts with a fair bit of visual and hands-on, partner work so that you have a solid baseline of anatomical knowledge and familiarity. It is the only way to then understand how to rehydrate fascia and in recognizing skeletal variations in Yin yoga postures. Together, they form a uniquely comprehensive take on myofascial release work. On the flip side, we add a slow and steady, Yin Yang flow component because you will see that when we delve into all things Yin, we get very relaxed! We will start the day in meditation and a slow, fluid, graceful flow that will leave you feeling pretty blissed out.

Level One is a Foundational Course. You will have a lot of fun reviewing/learning all the most important muscles and bony landmarks as they apply to our work with myofascial rolling and Yin postures. This course will touch upon all modalities of learning i.e. tactile, kinesthetic, auditory (call and response), and visual aids so that all learning styles are recognized.

With a deeper understanding of anatomy, you move on to the theories of Myofascial (Roll and) Release and Yin Yoga. There will be a review of human anatomy by rolling out specific areas of the body, sequences that will melt adhesions and hydrate the fascia so that you regain mobility, enhance your proprioception, and down regulate your nervous system.

After introducing fascial mapping following the work of renowned rolfer, Thomas Myers, we then start to lay down a foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian lines that gets layered over the fascial mapping. These are two different systems with a lot of overlap and it's useful to understand them both.

There will be periodic labs where we will examine skeletal variations both on images and on each other. This will help to illustrate the great range of variety in structural mobility, or a lack thereof, and then from there how to teach one posture in several ways with props use and a little creativity! There will be a discussion in detail of all the basic 24 postures of Yin yoga, going over variations and modifications to address skeletal variations. Use of props will be exercised here.

Alicia will teach techniques on how to release the diaphragm and together will delve deeper into breath work to enhance and add a level of depth to your existing pranayama practice.

Throughout the course there will be a light discussion and journaling assignments revolving around yoga psychology, Taoist alchemy (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and Buddhist philosophies. You will be introduced to Qi and Meridian Theories, as well as Five Elements and the Taoist principles of Yin and Yang in greater detail.

This course will leave you ready and able to teach a 1-1.5 hour Roll and Release class, a 1-1.5 hour Yin Yoga Class, or a 1-1.5 hour Combination Yin Yoga and Roll and Release class.

Yin yoga postures

Practice and learn all the basic postures of Yin yoga and how to adapt to all student levels. Learn how to demonstrate variations and modifications, including the use of props and know the purpose of each. You will incorporate assisted Yin techniques, use of specific breath patterns to enhance the practice, and how to bring the fusion of Yin and Yang together to feel more balanced.

Ball therapy

This portion of the practice is deeply therapeutic, interesting and effective in Myofascial and emotional release. Since Yin yoga primarily addresses the lower body, you will find this particularly useful as an adjunct to Yin classes and in addressing the upper body. You will leave being able to design Yin yoga classes, ball therapy classes, or combining them into one class.

Anatomy and anatomy lab

Learn basic anatomy of muscles, bones, joints, the significance of connective tissue as it relates to Yin yoga, study Myofascial compartments and the impact Yin postures and ball therapy have on fascia, compression testing to determine skeletal variations (and understand tension vs compression), discerning how to best modify or vary a posture based on skeletal variations. This is a really useful, hands-on portion which illustrates the fact that all bodies are vastly unique in their skeletal design. This is often overlooked but necessary in making your skill sets more refined as a teacher.

Learn basic theory of Qi, meridians, yin and yang, five elements as it pertains to Yin yoga, meridian tracing, and subtle body anatomy based on traditional Chinese medicine. -Teaching methodology Guidelines on how to sequence and design a class, how to incorporate pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, and dhyana. You will teach a portion of a class as your final exam.

Pranayama and meditation

You will discuss and intensely practice various breath exercises as a way to enhance the physical practice of Yin yoga, but more importantly, how to deeply penetrate the workings of the mind and body complex.
