Program

This 7-day retreat at Salamba Yoga introduces the basics of yoga and how to incorporate these elements into our daily life. This program strikes just the right balance between having free time in Pokhara while also taking a deep dive into yoga. Pranayama and meditation are intrinsic parts of the program and Hatha yoga asanas are carefully crafted to suit this 7-day immersion.

Program highlights

Foundation in asanas:

Yoga asanas introduced in this program have been carefully chosen to keep in mind the spine mobility enhancement and overall joint health upkeep. Students are methodically taught asanas making them aware of functional movements and joint interaction dynamics.

Pranayama:

Pranayama is the very base of concentration as suggested by master Patanjali. Keeping this in mind we have designed a detailed program to introduce the students to the potential of prana harnessing and the benefits that one can reap out of it.

Ujjayi breath, alternate nostril breath, and cleansing kriyas are taught gently during the program. Relation of breath with accessory muscle is explained and students are taught how to make use of diff areas of the lungs.

Meditation:

Students are taught concentration techniques in the first two days of the course and the rest of the days are used to deepen this concentration so as to move into spontaneous states of dhyana.

Techniques of meditation introduced are:

  • Nada brahma
  • Kundalini meditation
  • Sehaj Yog Dhyaana

Their effort is to make their students capable of sitting in concentration on their own without the help of the teacher for at least 15 minutes every day.

Retreat location

Pokhara is situated 200 km west of Kathmandu and is considered the tourist capital of Nepal. The word “Pokhara” is derived from “Pokhri” which means “a water body”. As many as 7 different water bodies are present in this region giving it the name “city of the lakes”. It used to be an important resting point on the trade route between India and China and one can still see the imprints of the old trade route along the mountains.

Pokhara has an elevation of 827 meters and has a very moderate temperature throughout the year. Rain season falls from May to September, with July seeing the maximum rainfall.

Three of the ten highest peaks in the world including the famous Annapurna can be seen from Pokhara and trekkers from across the globe consider the city as a must-visit destination to climb up the beautiful Himalayas.

The scenic beauty of Pokhara makes it one of the most beautiful places to do yoga in Nepal.SalambaYoga is situated at a distance of a 5 mins walk from the Fewa Lake which is the heart and soul of this beautiful city. The rich diversity in flora and fauna around the lake provides a good opportunity to soak oneself in meditation and rejuvenate.
