Accommodation is provided in beautifully furnished 5-metre bell tents. Nestled amongst the lemon and orange groves, the bell tents are simple but sumptuous, with electricity and comfortable beds. Each tent can sleep up to three people. Crisp bed linen and pool towels are provided. There are solar hot and cold powered showers facilities. Internet access is available. There is a small shop on site for all those little essentials you might need.

Style of yoga to be taught

Hatha Yoga, is a great place for people to start their yoga journey as there are so many variations of the physical practice, but can also challenge the most advanced practitioner. The word Hatha represents balance. Bringing a balance of soft, slow poses with a mix of strong, dynamic poses. Warming the body and cooling the body, bringing strength and softness, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Hatha will be our morning ‘Yang’ practice, starting our sunrise practice, surrounded by the stunningly breathtaking Sierra Nevada Mountains, allowing us to wake up and be energized for the day to come. Allow the energy of the earth below us and the Spanish sun above us to not only compliment our yoga practice, but to be part of our practice, remembering we are not only surrounded by nature but we are part of nature.

The evening time will be for Yin Yoga, which is all about stillness and quietness. In a world where we are encouraged to be “Yang” all the time, working fast, being loud, going all the time. Yin allows us the time to stop, and look inside, and to reset our systems, allowing the body to be totally rested and rejuvenated.

This is a sample timetable and may be subject to change. There will be one workshop a day, it may be in the morning or afternoon. There is also the option to visit local markets on Wednesday and Sunday.

Your Rustic Retreats Journey

“Every action has an equal and opposite reaction”. Everything in the universe works on this law of balance, including your body, mind and spirit. This week will allow us space to dive deep inside and discover where we need more balance in our life.

In both evening and morning classes we will learn about the Chakra system and bring a sense of balance and alignment into each of the 7 main Energy centers. Learning the physical and emotional characteristic of each Chakra will give us the knowledge to how to bring about the balance we individually need.

Our daily morning practice will begin with stronger pranayama, and asanas designed to work specifically on each chakra, allowing the physical and energetic body to create and sustain more energy and vitality.

Every day will allow time for a workshop where we will get a little more creative and explore where we need more balance. Mindfulness is a super way of bringing balance to our systems. Combining mindfulness with nature is an example of how we will balance our root chakra, the foundation of our whole chakra system. Connecting meditation with grounding techniques, feeling a sense of connection to nature, other people and yourself all brings that balance.

After a dynamic and fun filled morning and afternoon, Katie will lead you into our outdoor evening Yin practice, which will grant you the time to truly stop, observe and feel everything about the chakras from the inside out.

Workshop 1 - Know who you are

Katie has discovered and expressed things about herself through journaling that she thinks would have otherwise remained muddled up in her mind. This workshop will be a place for you to enquire, write, think, write, give feedback, write, learn from others and write some more. It is also a place for you to develop a habit of journaling on a daily basis. Katie still has notes from a retreat that she attended herself 5 years ago, which holds great memories of a time of transformation for her. Hopefully, you too will be able to look back on your writing’s as a time in your life that you spent on improving your well-being.

Workshop 2 - Creative Vision

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now? Discover how the power of visualization can transform your life. Anything is possible here, this is where we can decide what direction we want to take in life, and start to put it all into motion; the first step is having a clear vision of what direction we want to take. We are going to get creative here, we write about what we want, paint or draw pictures, create vision boards, bringing out your inner artist.

Workshop 3 - Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a beautifully relaxing practice, where we go on a journey of sound, sensation and visualization. In this guided relaxation we slow our brain waves way down from Alpha to Theta waves, your thoughts slow down to 4 to 8 thoughts per second. This is where super learning happens. Did you know that kids and artists experience a lot more theta activity in their brains?

Workshop 4 - Exploring Nature with Kindfullness

This term Kindfullness coined by Ajan Bhram (leader of the western Australian Buddhist Society) brings a sometimes over used word back to its true meaning, as Mindfullness is not practiced properly without kindness.

Being in nature has strong healing powers, and to become aware that nature is not separate to us , that we too are part of nature is a freeing thought.

We will discover how to move slower, and connect to all the beauty of all living beings and plants around us. Exploring all that the Sierra Espuna mountains have to offer, reflecting on how we can treat our earth with more kindness.

Workshop 5 - Tribal ceremony

We celebrate our week, with our new found Tribe at Bagend. We celebrate our time together with gratitude and joy. Starting with a meditation, and connecting together with chanting. We will discover ancient tribal rituals, such as, using talking sticks, fire ceremonies, singing and dancing. We will celebrate our time together but also welcome in the next stages of our life.

Katie O'Byrne
Katie did her very first Yoga class 16 years ago. For years, Yoga was just something she did as a hobby. Eight years ago it all started to change, slowly. She started a more dedicated yoga practice and everything she was learning on the mat, had started to seep out into her life. In 2016 she decided to travel to Rishikesh where she received my Hatha Yoga Teaching Certificate. She immediately started to share what she had learned by teaching classes to a whole range of students. Her aim is to bring a sense of fun and lots of laughter and playfulness to this retreat.

A stunning estate, totally off-grid, with zero light pollution, solar power, and fresh spring water. Food

Stimulate all your senses whilst you absorb the bright colors, beautiful textures, tantalizing flavors, and sublime aromas of the fresh food served at Rustic Retreats. The chef will create a myriad of fresh, healthy vegetarian meals to tantalize your pallet, all using the ripest, freshest, seasonal ingredients that are locally produced either from their very own organic garden and vegetable patch or from the local market and farmers.

Varieties of fruit are growing freely on the site such as lemons, oranges, almonds, pomegranate, and carob to name but a few. All vegetarian meals are lovingly prepared by a trained chef in the outdoor kitchen and are served 'al fresco' whenever possible. All meals are included in the price. The meals have been so popular with the clients that they are looking at producing a recipe book for next season.

Example menu:

  • Start the day with a fruit smoothie or refreshing mint tea.
  • Breakfast baby spinach omelet, cereals, fruit and French toast.
  • Lunch bell pepper frittata, bean and yogurt salad, and pumpkin bread.
  • Evening meal squash and zucchini casserole with wild rice and lemon tart.

  • All day snack menu is available but cost is not included in the price. Alcohol is available at a small extra charge.
