Yoga Retreats (8)
Jenny at first loved the soft and gentle approach of yoga and she still does. However, as she regained her mental and emotional strength and increasingly made yoga her number one priority, she began to reap the benefits from Ashtanga, Flow Yoga, Bikram and Hot Flow as well as from practicing in different environments including retreats, studios, beaches, parks, Ashrams and at home. Jenny's yoga practice is further complemented by her love of singing and dance and of course she intertwines the spirit of yoga into these too.
Anna is a certified Vinyasa Flow Yoga teacher & a neuro-physiotherapist. Her classes are often inspired by nature's elements allowing her students to connect more deeply to the surroundings. In India, she lived a simple life of purity & tranquility learning from Hatha & Ashtanga masters. She discovered that she enjoys most the creativity of Vinyasa Flow. She practises Ashtanga regularly & enjoy fusing elements of the series into her flow classes. Anna believes in finding a harmonious relationship between energies & often teaches & practises Yin Yoga restoring the balance of body, mind & spirit
Dina started practicing yoga on her own some 15 years ago with magazine photos at her disposal she learnt what she could. Until she found a teacher in 2009 and immediately jumped into the Kundalini Teacher Training. She’d practiced and assisted in teaching while she studied Power Yoga in 2011. She's been teaching Power Yoga since this moment in the Netherlands and she now continues doing this in Barcelona, Spain. Since 2014 she's been learning more about anatomy and pranayama with different teachers. When teaching she approaches her students’ needs taking into account what their bodies allow.
Lara is a professional contemporary dancer and this is how she got her first access to Yoga, within her dance training. Hungry for more profound understanding and the desire to share her insights after already having been teaching Yoga in summer youth camps, she completed my teaching certificate in (Hot) Vinyasa Yoga in 2016 and started sharing her passion for Yoga with more Yogis. Now, she is continuing her Yogic path and research while teaching Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Yin and Aerial Yoga. Her teaching style is welcoming, open, encouraging and very dynamic.
Joy von Winckelmann
During work as a dance teacher Joy started practicing yoga, originally because of the physical workouts, but soon she realised the full potential of it. She decided to go to India to explore. After she passed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, Hatha Ashtanga Vinyasa in Varkala, it became clear to her that this was the path she was meant to take. Since then she taught regular classes in Sri Lanka and now in Holland where she is currently based. Joy mostly teaches a dynamic mix of Vinyasa and Ashtanga. Her classes are playful, challenging and of course always fun.
Lucy is from Norfolk, UK and trained in Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda in Spain in 2017 (Yoga Alliance Certified) and Swedish Full Body Massage. She uses elements from her training in Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda to aid restoring the body safely and creating deep relaxation and harmony. Her passion is to share the gift of yoga and help people use it to express themselves and find their happiness and balance. She supports each student on their journey and ensures variations and adaptions for injuries, health conditions and physical limitations.
Michelle's first experience with yoga was when she was training as a professional dancer. She was lucky enough to be surrounded by teachers hugely interested in mindful movement and began absorbing the benefits from then on. Michelle qualified as an Ashtanga-Vinyasa teacher after studying at Sampoorna Yoga in Goa two years ago after teaching and performing dance for over ten years. She been teaching in different places in England ever since. She teaches a variety of styles: Vinyasa flow, Ashtanga, yin yang flows, but her passion is a fusion of Ashtanga Vinyasa.
Allison been practicing yoga for more than 20 years. She has spent some time in Mysore, India practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa with Sheshadri, and also back bending with Venkatesh. She has lived for many years in Asia with her husband running their own Yoga studios teaching drop-in classes, workshops, retreats and teacher training's. Her main teaching styles are Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, and Aerial Yoga. Her focus being long term functional movement and overall fitness, making Yoga accessible to all body types within an empowering experience.
Bregje is a yoga teacher & humanitarian worker & has been studying Yoga & Alexander Technique for the last 13 years. She gained her 200 & 300 hours Hatha Yoga Teacher Training certificates in 2015 & has been teaching group classes, private classes & various retreats since then. She has been taking contemporary dance classes at the professional level for the last 10 years. Her teachings are a combination of Hatha & (slow) Vinyasa, with much emphasis on correct alignment & safety. She has been practicing Alexander Technique for thirteen years & she incorporates it in her classes.
Katie did her very first Yoga class 16 years ago. For years, Yoga was just something she did as a hobby. Eight years ago it all started to change, slowly. She started a more dedicated yoga practice and everything she was learning on the mat, had started to seep out into her life. In 2016 she decided to travel to Rishikesh where she received my Hatha Yoga Teaching Certificate. She immediately started to share what she had learned by teaching classes to a whole range of students. Her aim is to bring a sense of fun and lots of laughter and playfulness to this retreat.
Oskar's interest in yoga & meditation started in the late 1960s when his mother had him practice Hatha Yoga with her. By the mid 1990s he was introduced to Astanga Vinyasa (Mysore) by a friend. He studied with different teachers from India, SE Asia, Australia, America & Europe. Oskar paid special attention to the study of Physiology and Anatomy, particularly for movement and rehabilitation after injury. He also studied Sports & Remedial Massage, Thai Massage, Chavutti Thirumal (Indian Rope massage from Kerala), level 1&2 Reiki.
Katie is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified & Animalia Asana® yoga teacher. She trained in multi-style yoga in 2015, under the guidance & wisdom of Guru Mahinder Prasad at Siddhi Yoga in Dharamsala, India. In 2018 she studied with Jenny Mace to become an official Animalia Asana® Yoga teacher. She teaches Vinyasa Flow, restorative hatha-style & Yin yoga. With a keen interest in both yoga and the natural world, she love to integrate nature and animal elements into my teachings. She feels this is a genuine way to inspire ahimsa - the practice of non-violence.
Josie has practiced yoga for the past 5 years. She always loved the way a class made her feel, but it was only after going through a tough year she slowly awakened to its healing, restorative & life-giving magic! She had never been a particularly active person, always preferring to curl up in the corner with a book, but yoga was different. So, she trained as a teacher to share this gorgeous thing with others. Yoga gives space for a person to be completely & unapologetic-ally themselves whilst working towards a deeper understanding of who that is, having loads of fun along the way!
Iva is a yogi, dancer, & food-enthusiast from Prague. She believes in honest exploring, taking care & being with what is. Whilst training to be a professional dancer in Los Angeles, she visited Yoga for dancers classes. Since then, yoga has turned her life around. She returned to LA 3 years ago to take her first Yoga Teacher Training & fell in love with Iyengar & restorative yoga. She has always been drawn to helping people recover, feel better & find their own way to well-being. She trained in India, one multistyle & one focused purely on Yoga Therapy. She has also studied Ayurveda.
Barbora Koubkova (Teaching Assistant)
Barbora is fairly new on her teaching path but her actual yogic journey is much longer. She has studied Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyassa & Vipassana meditation.
Ellen (Teaching Assistant)
Ellen's yoga journey started in 2013, a few months after she moved to Dublin from my hometown of Sao Paulo Brazil. Following her relocation she was going through some difficult times and everything changed when she was introduced to Sudarshan Kriya Yoga. SKY was the entry door to her yoga practice, it was the beginning of so many amazing experiences.
Emma (Teaching Assistant)
Emma originally found yoga years ago, it became a bigger and bigger part of her life. In 2019 she took the challenge and trained as a teacher. As a teacher, her aim is to support encourage and inspire people to find the joy within through the gift of yoga. A gift too good not to share.

"My perfect getaway from hectic life"
I had the best time at Rustic Retreats in the Espuna Mountains. It offered everything I needed, a small intimate group surrounding, tranquility and peacefulness away from city life and work pressure, healthy food, a dedicated and lovely yoga teacher, sunshine, and the most caring host, who is also the chef de cuisine. Finally switched off from the world, found back to myself, thoroughly enjoyed everything new learned about and around yoga, started journaling & reading, soaked uptown sun and happiness and was able to return home a much better version of myself. Thank you Elliott, Rosie & Morgan for making it happen!

"Everything I needed and more!"
I had an amazing week so relaxing and exactly what I needed, the Food and hospitality from Eliot was amazing and our yoga instructor Dina was so professional and personable she was great!
The views were also amazing and I loved how the whole of Bagend was set out. I will be back!

"Off grid retreat"
I loved everything about Rustic Retreats! The bell tents are spacious and solar powered light provided. The land is beautiful with lemon trees everywhere you look. The food is AMAZING. Elliot and his team are lovely and are there for whatever you need. Our yoga teacher Rosie was brilliant and spent time to ensure the poses were correct and gave us the opportunity to try variations of poses to challenge ourselves. Even the outdoor toilets and showers are an experience and you appreciate that Elliot is trying to live off the land and produce less waste which is inspiring.

"Everything GGGorgeous (you'll understand this) is my title"
This place makes you in the position for connections. Connecting with yourself: your body, your mind, your soul, connecting with the people and with the ground, the nature.
It was a solid experience and practice to form habits such as a little personal yoga flow- that I could develop and take back home, to practice anywhere and when I want.
The place gives you the freedom to stay by yourself or to be always surrounded by people, and cats :) if you want too.
Elliot is gorgeous but you will have to meet him to understand what we all mean. Such energetic and organised but also not, always ironic but also serious, trusty to the world, but also cautious when it's needed. You are doing a great job Elliot, and thank you for spreading your vibe.
I'd recommend many people to come here, in fact I'm already doing it with my friends. For the reasons i said earlier and furthermore to practice english, as the place is mainly run by english mother tongue people.
Hope to be and elf next year or the following.
P.s. People, (good people-as you are), go there !!

Elliot the Founder is a beautiful soul who's created this magical home nestled in the valley of Bagend. You'll be enchanted with his humour , love and quirkiness and moreover the food.. being a top professional chef you'll be spoilt with the daily menu choice and definitely not hungry throughout !
Elliot's passion for sustainable living and living a life of vitality and carefree living without the need for "modern day mod cons" is worth experiencing - but with added comfort.

"The best holiday ever"
I had an amazing time at the Rustic Retreats. Elliott is such a great host, there is nothing he can’t do for you. We had troubles getting to Totana due to train cancellations and he offered to go the extra mile to pick us up from Murcia instead. I felt like everything was taken care of from the very minute I first rang him. He made it a stress free, super relaxing holiday. The amenities are surprisingly advanced for the off-grid location. And the food! OMG you need to try it. I prepared for a basic camping trip and instead got a super comfortable all inclusive glamping experience. Probably the best holiday I’ve had.

"A real connection with nature"
I loved the fact that we were immersed in the middle of a mountain. In an inspiring self-sufficient place. I found amazing that all the water and electricity was coming from the sun and natural water from the surroundings. This made me appreciate much more the resources we had with us and certainly to connect fully with nature.
The yoga classes by Oskar were very personalized. He made sure to adapt the classes to our needs. I can say that he really knows how to empower the students and I feel much more confident of my yoga practice after the yoga classes by Oskar.
Elliot is an amazing chef, he would surprise us every day with amazing healthy, vegetarian meals!
This week was exactly what I needed! Thank you everyone who made this so special!

I loved this place. The location itself is perfect, so tranquil and beautiful. Plenty of time to be with others and have your own space. Class schedule worked really well, food was incredible (and there was plenty of it!), and I met some really wonderful people. I would 100% recommend this for total beginners and experienced yogis, and I already want to go back!

"Even better than expected! - The perfect balance!"
Rustic retreats was the perfect balance. Rustic enough to feel homely, comfortable and at ease but luxurious enough to not be totally roughing it. With chic y and wine and massages available - you could choose your level of comfort.
Elliot’s food was delicious and wholesome and filling!
The surroundings were beautiful and there was plenty to do with lots of advice from Elliot.
Elliot himself was kind and welcoming and brought some light and fun! It wasn’t all serious and scary meditation...
And Lara was the perfect yoga teacher. She was kind and totally un-judgemental and able to provide classes for a mixed group.
It was my first ever time doing yoga and I was nervous and intimidated but Lara and Elliot made em feel welcome and comfortable and created the perfect atmosphere for solitude, meditation but also light hearted fun - the perfect balance!
from Great Britain, September 2018
Great experience living off grid for a week and being more conscious of the water and electricity we use daily as well as the waste we produce. Loved the outdoor shower! Really enjoyed the healthy lifestyle, starting the day early with a refreshing walk to the yoga platform uphill. Great yoga and meditation sessions, interesting workshops in the afternoon, lovely to relax and read in a hammock or by the pool the rest of the day... I can't not mention Elliot's amazing veggie meals... as well as his hospitality, kindness and attention to details. I loved picking up fresh lemons every morning, sleeping in belltents, the movie night under the stars... without forgetting the amazing group of people I have met there! Divine week at Bagend - would highly recommend.

"Gorgeous yoga retreat in the Spanish mountains"
Had a wonderful week at Rustic Retreats, hosted by Elliot, who could not have been more welcoming, fun and generous with his lovely home. The accommodation was very comfortable - bell tents surrounded by lemon and orange trees - and the vegetarian and vegan food prepared fresh every day was delicious. The yoga and meditation on the mountain platform was great, and left me feeling refreshed and creatively inspired. I would definitely go back - it's a gorgeous place to be!
from France, June 2018
Elliot is a great host, very easy-going and cheerful. Plus he is an amazing cook so even if you're not vegetarian, you'll truly enjoy the food.
I was a complete beginner and I loved the program of the week, as everyday was focused on a different kind of yoga. Jenny, our teacher, was very knowledgeable and adapted perfectly the class to the different levels within the group. I felt very comfortable on the mat.
The place is off-grid, but still very comfortable, it is not that rustic. You'll sleep in large tents on a real bed. The surroundings are nice and quiet, it's the perfect place to recharge your batteries.
If you hesitate just go! It was the first time I practiced yoga and did this kind of holidays, so I didn't know what to expect, but I felt super comfortable and was surrounded by very open-minded and interesting people. I would definitely go back.
Thanks again Elliot and the team for welcoming us so warmly.

"Absolutely incredible & nourishing week"
Everything was so well done, thoughtful, professional and grounded in positive energy and the stunning surroundings. Margot is an outstanding yoga instructor who brought such thought to her practice and a wonderful, non-judgmental atmosphere that was tailored to all our needs and interests. Elliot is one of the most open-hearted, kindest people I've met and the home he's created here reflects that. Plus he happens to be an unbelievable cook! The entire experience was above and beyond expectations and I look forward to returning. An exceptional escape that gets you back in touch with what matters.

"A perfect off grid yoga experience "
Hard to pick as so many positive aspects. The location was fantastic. Surrounded by mountains , in the middle of an orange and lemon grove. The yoga platform had Impressive views. The bell tents were roomy with everything I needed. Everything was very relaxed and Elliot was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble. We had a film night with pizza, which was great fun. Also a trip out to the local market. We had 4 hours of yoga and meditation every day, even had the option of a class on the day we left. Excellent value for money.
from Great Britain, June 2018
"Down to earth & "
Talented yoga teacher Margit set a lovely tone with her approach to classes and workshops - we were all very impressed with her. Elliot is a gem - funny, generous and visionary with his set up of the retreat. Also loved being totally off grid, the lemon groves & the movie night under the stars.

"Wonderful retreat in the mountains"
The location in the mountains is great, and yoga on the platform looking out at the scenery is awesome. We had 5 hours of yoga most days, and that included a 30 minute sunrise meditation. The immersion in yoga was fantastic and Anna gave us a varied and interesting selection of yoga practices. She included mantra and visualisation, as well as theory, which was excellent.

"Disconnect and recharge in the Spanish countryside."
Elliott is an experienced, fantastic host with a big heart and great sense of humor. His commitment to off-grid, sustainable living is inspiring and his food delicious. The accommodations are rustic but comfortable. I slept better in the tent than in many hotels. The outdoor shower is beautiful and an experience. Many great trees and flowers surround the property even during the dry summer months. The view of the mountain facing the property is a highlight of many parts of the day. The schedule is well-designed to give plenty of time to the yoga practice but also leave a lot of time daily to rest and relax. It was a beautiful experience to meet my fellow retreaters and simply be in nature for 6 days.
from Great Britain, August 2017
The whole experience from the location, the company, the host, the food was just amazing. It is rustic a proper getaway from it all off grid learning curve, not for those wanting luxury but I felt it just added to the chilled out vibe which was exactly what i was after.
from Ireland, June 2017
"I <3 Bagend"
You have to experience Bagend to really know what an incredible place it is. Elliot is the most wondeful, open, warm, friendly and "gorgeous" host you could ever wish for. An oasis of peace amd tranquillity, an escape from the world, Bagend is a very special place. As a voga "virgin" the classes were challenging but Lara was such an encouraging teacher. The meditation was the best part for me, in just a couple of days I had headspace I haven't had in months. A truly restorative experience that I'll hold in my heart until I go back!
from Great Britain, May 2017
"wonderful rustic retreat!"
I would highly recommend this retreat to anyone seeking a an escape from the rat race, its an oasis of peace tucked away in the natural beauty of the mountains with fabulous food, amazing location and a wonderfully warm and welcoming host, the teacher was also brilliant, the accommodation is exactly what it says - Rustic Retreat, so if you`re into an eco / off grid experience its fantastic, but you need to be up for camping out!

It is difficult to capture how incredible the whole week was - from delicious, freshly prepared meals to thoughtfully-led yoga and meditation sessions, this retreat was exactly what I needed. Nestled safely in the mountains and among beautiful lemon trees, I made some dear friendships and had the opportunity to do some deep reflection. Looking forward to returning to this place of pure happiness!!

"Een prachtige retreat"
De eigenaar Elliot is de leukste gastheer die je kan hebben. Hij doet je thuis voelen en verzorgt de hele groep met gezonde en heel lekkere maaltijden.
De omgeving en de rust/natuur zijn prachtig. Een echte aanrader!
from Germany, September 2018
Bagend is the perfect place to find some peace ans quiet. You literally retreat from the rest of the world, for me that was before all busy city noises and I enjoyed being left with the sound of crickets. Elliot is your dad for the week (he said so himself) and will look after all your needs. Besides being extraordinary lovely he creates the most amazing food: tasty, delicious and healthy. I found this to be important since I'm not used to two yoga practices a day and developed quite an appetite. But you decide how often you would like to practice or rather stay in the hammocks or by the pool or go for a walk in the beautiful spanish mountains. You do what ever you like. It was perfect! I can only recommend it to anyone.

"Tout ce que je cherchais, et même plus !"
Ayant ressenti un énorme besoin de me reconnecter à moi-même ainsi qu'à la nature, je cherchais une retraite pour couper complètement de tout et ai découvert après de longues recherches ce petit coin de paradis atypique avec un hôte adorable et attentionné.
Quelle chance d'avoir eu mes premiers cours de yoga, ma première expérience de camping et de vie "off grid" dans cet endroit et avec ces personnes alors présentes !
L'environnement, tant géographique qu'humain, a totalement contribué à me faire lâcher-prise.
Un grand merci, Elliot, Joy, toute l'équipe, tous les autres participants, pour avoir rendu ce séjour inoubliable.

"Lovely off-grid experience"
I really enjoyed the overall chilled environment at Bag End and loved being away from the real world for a whole week. The food was lovely, the scenery was stunning and there are plenty of places to chill out and read, like by the pool and the hammocks among the lemon trees. The trip really gave me an opportunity to switch off and read loads and contemplate life in this secluded part of Spain. I particularly loved the movie night we had because it was such a lovely evening spent watching Bohemian Rhapsody under the stars!

"New year retreat"
This was the most incredible introduction into 2019. I feel fresh and revitalised and ready to get back to everyday life, with lots of tools to help stay calm. The location allows you to wind down, being amongst the mountains takes you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, having loads of space to breath and take it easy. Lucy the yoga instructor was inspiring and empathetic, really listening to the needs of the group. Elliot the founder of Rustic Retreats is just an absolute ray of sunshine, I was in fits of laughter all week! And his cooking is incredible, you will be well nourished and everything’s organic. I can not recommend this retreat enough, for what you get it is great value for money. I certainly plan to be back again soon!

"Loved my stay"
It's a magical place run by a wonderful man who cooks really good food :-) All the volunteers and the yoga teacher were amazing, my fellow participants as well <3

"Fantastic serene retreat!"
If you're looking for a serene, quiet spot in nature that is made and managed with love, this one is for you. It has been one of the most original and authentic retreat centers i've seen in europe

Le lieu, les gens sur place, Eliott. Je recommanderais cette place si vous désirez vous détendre et apprendre sur vous-même !
from Bagend, Totana, Spain,
Bagend is a truly special place and Elliot and his team go out of their way to make you feel welcome and looked after from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Living off grid was wonderful and peaceful, the food was delicious and plentiful and the yoga, meditation and workshops were excellent.
First time at a yoga retreat and it was absolutely fabulous! Elliott is a caring, energetic host that makes you feel at home. Anna is a patient, great, insightful teacher - she provided a balance to her classes and workshops - I never knew how vast the world of yoga is! The location is simply inspiring as Elliot built everything himself over the years. Living off grid is also a bonus to the whole experience. We were very lucky and had great weather for early March (mid 20s during the day); one can only enjoy when the sun is out. I highly recommend this retreat if you want to relax, disconnect from the outside world, make your body feel amazing, and/or reflect about yourself.
This retreat was my first, and certainly not my last. I only have positive things to say; about Eliot, the most delightful, kind and amazing host imaginable; the yoga, meditation and especially our instructor Katrina, all of which were mind-opening and top quality; I really felt like we were all treated as individuals and it was a group effort rather than a class. The accommodations are thoughtful, rustic and eco-conscious, though I think I would appreciate them even more in the summer weather - next time! And the surroundings are gorgeous and tranquil. The food is fantastic - as a total carnivore I was nervous about a week of vegetarianism, but honestly hardly noticed amid all the spices and variety. The schedule is well-organized, with enough free time to relax without ever being bored. In short, a week I will never forget with people who began to feel like family by the second day. A transformative experience in the perfect environment among truly beautiful souls.
