Set in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, surrounded by woodlands, vineyards, olive groves, and mountain streams, with spectacular views and untouched landscapes, Le Pianore Villa and Organic Wine Farm is an ideal venue for yoga holidays, holistic, and creative retreats. Is the retreat suitable for beginners?

This retreat is suitable for anyone, regardless of age, physical ability or prior experience in yoga, meditation, and breathwork. The teaching is primarily guiding each participant back to their own intuitive knowing.

Why go on a retreat?

You are sometimes asked what value a retreat might have. To some, it may seem self-indulgent or an "escape from the world." Others might find it simply foreign and have no idea why people choose to take a retreat. Of course, the retreat has been valued by all cultures for thousands of years and there are as many reasons to take retreat as there are people choosing to do so.

Making time in your busy life to go on a retreat is a gift to yourself and those in your life. A retreat will give you a chance to pause and look at your life from a new perspective and often reveal answers to questions that have been troublesome. Taking a retreat is a nurturing “time-out”; a time to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit; to re-connect with your authentic self; to re-connect with nature; to reassess what you truly value and consider if you are living your life in alignment with those values.

What style of yoga is taught?

Rolling Meadows Retreat has studied with many teachers in a variety of styles over the years - they offer a fluid practice emphasizing inner listening and exploration, including Iyengar and the Viniyoga of Desikachar, fluid yogic movements of Continuum, as well as Vipassana meditation, non-dual teachings, and breathwork. The teaching is a synthesis of all that we have studied for 40 years and what has evolved during years of practice.

What are the retreats like?

The yoga retreats are an opportunity for one to relax and rest in the natural presence/awareness that we are. We feel this is the essence of yoga, meditation, breathwork, and retreat in general. The schedule, teaching, and environment allow one to let go of the demands and details of daily life and to reconnect with and reveal their own deeper knowing.

Yoga postures, breath awareness, breathwork, restorative postures, meditation, silence, and free time in the natural world generally assist in this letting go. As you let go of tension and the busy mind, a deeper knowing that is always present, reveals itself. There is ample opportunity for people to ask questions during the sessions or in private interviews between sessions.

You will be immersed in the beauty and slow pace of Tuscan life at Le Pianore, an 800-year-old villa in the magnificent hills of Monte Amiata in Monticello, southern Tuscany. With its spectacular views, fabulous walking, swimming pool bordered by cypress trees, and sumptuous cuisine, Le Pianore offers an environment of conscious sustainability and experience of the Italian way of living life where ease and enjoyment reign.

Each day there will be three sessions. The focus of our sessions is to open energy pathways, expand awareness, quiet the mind and experience the stillness and ease of the true nature.

Yoga sessions invite deep listening, fluid unwinding, and awakening sensation as a guide back to the body’s innate intelligence. This approach to practice shifts the habit of "doing" asana to an unfolding, by feeling and sensing our way through the practice. Sessions will be guided with periods for self-exploration and discovery.

Meditation and self-inquiry sessions encourage becoming familiar with the rest and ease of our essential nature. The meditation sessions offer mindfulness and breath awareness based on Vipassana meditation as well as non-dual, open awareness meditation, and self-inquiry.

Breathwork is a rare offering in yoga and meditation retreats and is an experience of healing, enhanced well-being, insight, and the direct experience of expanded consciousness. It is a profound dimension of our retreats.

The ancient, rural beauty and the slow pace of life at Le Pianore, create a rare environment for restoring the soul and remembering what truly matters. To enhance the benefit of this breathwork, meditation and yoga retreat silent periods will be observed.

Pick up in Siena at N.H. Hotel Excelsior on Via Tozzi. Please note that you may choose to fly into Florence, Pisa or Rome. However the only pick up and drop off is in Siena. Many people arrive a day or earlier to tour Florence, Siena other areas of Tuscany or Italy.

At 3 p.m., meet at N.H. Hotel Excelsior on Piazza la Lizzie in Siena for the 40-minute drive to Le Pianore.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Florence Peretola Airport (FLR), Pisa International Airport (PSA), or Fiumicino - Leonarda Da Vinci Airport (FCO). Choose a flight schedule so that if your arrival is the day the retreat begins, you allow at least 1 hour to clear customs and to collect your bags plus transport time to Siena for pick up at 3 p.m. so that the group can leave on time for Le Pianore. For departure choose a flight which allows 2 hours at the airport before departure, plus travel time from Siena bus station to the airport remembering that drop off in Siena is at 10 a.m.

Arrival by bus

The pickup and drop off is only at the hotel NH Excelsior. Pick up at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 18. Drop off is at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 24 at the hotel NH Excelsior. Pick up is in Siena on October 18 at 3 p.m. in front of the Hotel NH Excelsior on Piazza la Lizzie which is on Via Tozzi.

This hotel is a 10-minute walk from Piazza del Campo, the central plaza in Sienna. Rolling Meadows Retreat will be holding a sign saying "Patricia". From here, you will travel 45 minutes to Le Pianore, a retreat center and organic vineyard and olive producing farm outside of Siena. Departure from Le Pianore is on October 24 at 9 a.m. arriving at the Siena bus station at 10 a.m.

Coming a day early and/or staying in Florence or Siena for a day after the retreat is also a good option if your flight does not meet the pickup or drop off times. It is not possible to come early or stay beyond the retreat at the retreat center. Florence and Siena are easily accessible from any airport with a wide range of accommodations to fit any budget and are culturally rich cities to savor.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 40% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 90 days before arrival.
