Intention of the retreat

The focus of this retreat program is to study and experience the process of meditation systematically with incisive insight into the philosophical, psychological and therapeutic dimensions of meditative process. This entire program will deepen the understanding of yoga aspirants, teachers, and therapists about various techniques of meditation and will equip them with sound knowledge of philosophical background of the yogic system.

Approach of meditation

Meditation as widely understood is not a set of techniques or ritual. Rather, it is a state of experience of evolved mind. It is a phenomenon which happens as a byproduct of yogic journey. A holistic or integrative approach to yoga is recommended to actualize this state of consciousness and potential of evolved mind in meditative state through various techniques of Hatha yoga such as asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and shatkriyas as well as time proven techniques of Raja yoga, Mantra yoga, and Kriya yoga.

Outcome of the retreat

The experience that you will gain from the retreat will culminate into a sound and authentic understanding of the yogic system as well as deepening of awareness and experience of meditation which is to aid one to live life consciously and mindfully. You will go on a spiritual excursion to various sites around the city of Rishikesh such as visiting ancient meditation caves and joining a sacred fire ceremony at the bank of river Ganges.

Sushant

Sushant embarked on the journey of yoga in 1997 as a post graduate student of Yoga Psychology at Bihar Yoga Bharati (Deemed University); known worldwide for its authentic and systematic teachings in yogic discipline. After completing his post graduation in Yoga Psychology; he was involved as an intern in various projects / studies in prisons, army, hospitals, and corporate for one and half years. After internship, he was appointed lecturer in the Department of Yoga Psychology at Bihar Yoga Bharati, which provided him ample opportunities to explore the theoretical as well as practical dimensions of yogic knowledge.

In 2006, Sushant joined Ananda in the Himalayas (Destination Spa) and worked there as Head of Yoga. In 2010, he was voted and awarded reader’s choice Top 10 Favourite Spa Professional Award by SPA FINDER magazine. Yoga at Ananda was also honored as Best for Yoga for years 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Sushant currently lives in Russia and India and conducts retreats and workshops on yoga philosophy, meditations, and Kriya yoga.

Abhishek

Abhishek was born and raised in New Delhi, the capital of India. His family heritage is from Kerela - situated at the southernmost tip of India and also the home of the Ayurveda. He finished his schooling in Rishikesh and Varanasi, and began studying yoga in 2005. While he was in Varasani, he met Swami Anil whose teachings on Ashtanga yoga philosophy inspired him to use yoga not just as a mean to meditate or improve physically, but for the genuine transformation of the heart and soul. Shortly thereafter, he began teaching yoga in Varanasi and other parts of India. In 2010, he moved to the US where he continued to teach and study yoga until 2015. Then he moved back to India to follow his dreams to live in the Himalayas. He now teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa in Rishikesh. Abhishek works actively against human trafficking and uses yoga to help people heal and uplift their quality of life.

Deepti

Deepti is a gifted teacher with experience of over 10 years following the path of spirituality and yoga. She is known for her amazing class presentations and making the students discover the calmness with yoga during her sessions.

She was born and raised in Rishikesh and has studied Masters in yoga. She has been an exponent in the field of Hatha yoga, Raja yoga, and Kriya yoga. Deepti brings with her a rich and diverse experience of teaching yoga across many institutes and ashrams. She was associated with Ananda in the Himalayas from 2007 - 2014 as a yoga instructor and was instrumental in taking the resort to become the number 1 spa property in the world. She is married and lives in Delhi with her husband and actively conducts corporate workshops and visits Rishiskesh regularly to teach yoga.

Uttam

Uttam was born in Rishikesh, India. It was because of his grandfather that he was able to experience the “bhakti” form of yoga in his childhood and that developed a fascination and curiosity in him to explore and study the mystic invisible life force energy of yoga. He also conducts various workshops around the globe. This hunger to search the depth of the mystic life forces initiated Uttam's spiritual journey which led him to learn and practice Kundalini, yantra, mantra, and tantra. It was through his hard work, dedication, and experience, Swami Vidyananda initiated him onto the Kundalini yoga path and also gave him his spiritual name “Rishi Raj”. Uttam is now teaching transformational Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga, and Ashtanga yoga in Rishikesh.

The retreat will take place in Rishikesh at a popular spot for travelers perched on the hillside. The yoga hall is on the top floor and has a spectacular view of the river Ganges and jungle.

    "I cannot recommend highly enough Sushant as a yoga guru. Yoga in all its forms, Raja, Hatha or Kriya, is a wondrous and sublime set of teachings and practices. It is amazing how Sushant, in spite of his being very young, has in himself the wisdom and grace of ancient rishis. He personifies how we probably imagine our sages of the Vedic times. He has a modest and unassuming demeanour yet the rigour of his practice, the sincerity and devotion he has to yoga and the zeal of his transmission of these teachings to his students of different types, from various walks of life is striking and singular. My personal experience as a student with Sushant through the years, while I am decades older than him, has been awe-inspiring. His teachings, his demonstration of asanas, pranayama, bandhas and the very important spiritual visualizations of Chidakasha Dharana, Chakra Shuddi, and Ajapa japa have transformed my horizons, shown me that amidst all the challenges life throws at us, yoga alone illuminates a path forward.
