The five days of the long weekend will be a complete retreat for you, an opportunity for deeper practice, contemplation, and connection with the most beautiful New Zealand has to offer. Deepen and refine your meditation practice with this retreat led by experienced teacher and practitioner Susan Allen.
The retreat center of Mana is set on 350 acres of land on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula. Little bush trails trace their way between the accommodations and the different buildings on the property. The trails and the birdsong will lead you on a little adventure up to the mountain summit where a large crystal embedded in the rock looks out to the islands beyond. The feeling is at the same time of space as well as of being held.
The sanctuary, the crowning glory of Mana, is a temple that stands at the top of the mountain. Built by the founders of Mana many years ago, this space is available for you to enjoy anytime. A moonlight visit to the sanctuary is a journey to remember. The octagon is the main practice room. Warmed by an abundant fireplace, this spacious room also looks out over the ocean and islands.
Being a dedicated practice space, it holds the energy and steadiness that supports your practice. Accommodation is in rustic little hideaway rooms nestled in the native bush. Accommodation is shared with another participant; for an additional charge, a single room may be available. All rooms are nice and cozy, many with great views out to the islands and ocean.
This retreat offers six days of meditation practice and discussion, both indoors and in the beautiful open spaces this property offers. An opportunity to begin a daily practice for life or to deepen an existing practice that has stopped progressing. The retreat is hosted by one of New Zealand’s most experienced yoga and meditation teachers, Susan Allen. Susan has been teaching meditation for 20 years and has an authentic passion for sharing this transformative practice with others.
Meditation will change your life, developing a calmness of mind, a poise of character, a foundation for flourishing, and the fulfillment of your highest potential. The meditation practices and discussion will have a particular emphasis on cultivating quietness and steadiness in the mind as well as cultivating insights that bring freedom and peace of mind into your everyday life.
Tibetan Buddhist meditations value an intelligent and structured approach to investigating ‘What is the mind?’ and consequently frame meditation practically and methodically. The meditation practices will be taken from the Mahamudra and Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhist traditions. These will be presented in a secular, practical fashion. The primary offerings on this retreat are:
You will have time for meditation as well as time off to rest, hike, read, or relax. You are required to attend all of the meditation practices. The yoga practices are optional. On your first day, you can arrive from 3:00 p.m. onwards. Check-in is available to your room anytime from 3:00 p.m. onwards. Feel free to then look around the property and settle in.
Susan Allen who is leading the retreat is the founder of Yoga Ground, yoga and meditation studios in Auckland and Wanaka, New Zealand. Susan has spent the last 22 years running yoga studios, teacher trainings, extensive workshops and retreats in NZ and abroad. Her foundation is her Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice and teaching. Susan’s greatest skills are her ability to communicate complex ideas in clear and precise language as well as her passion and enthusiasm for sharing these transformative practices. She is one of the most experienced and highly regarded teachers in New Zealand.
