Iceland is made for exploring so your holiday will combine world class yoga with four carefully selected trips to discover the very best of the beautiful nature here. You will hike to some waterfalls, visit a nature reserve on an island and spend an afternoon at world famous Lake Mvatn, soaking in the hot springs known as the 'Blue Lagoon' of the North. You will also head out on a night time adventure into the wild to see the Northern Lights.
Reclaim Your Self has five bright and spacious apartments in the charming town of Akureyri. The apartments have private terraces and share jacuzzis between them. Some have views of Eyjafjrdur.
This location in Northern Iceland is an inspiring wilderness, perfect for exploration, so Reclaim Your Self has created a program to enable you to get out and about with four excursions to immerse yourself in all that Iceland has to offer. Emma Henry will offer a Jivamukti yoga class each morning and either a second class, pranayama or meditation practice in the afternoon. Each Jivamukti class offers a vigorous and dynamic asana practice that is infused with inspiring teachings derived from the ancient yogic texts. A class presents classical yoga teachings in a way that is relevant to ones life on and off the mat, supported by chanting, breath awareness, flowing Vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation, and meditation. You will use the unique experience of wild Icelandic nature to enhance your practice.
You will spend an afternoon on the Island of Hrisey. It is a short drive and then a 15-minute ferry ride from the retreat location. On the island you will hike through a nature reserve and enjoy one of the most energetically powerful places in Iceland.
You will head out for the afternoon and evening to the world famous Lake Mvatn. All that makes Iceland so unique can be experienced within a few hours; from powerful waterfalls, characteristic volcanoes, geothermal activity, to a nature spa.
On the way to Mvatn, your first stop will be the beautiful Goafoss the waterfall of the gods; which played an important role in the adoption of Christianity in Iceland. In Mvatn you will visit the pseudo craters, where the American astronauts trained; and the dark cities, full of unique lava-pillars and the home of Yule Lads.
You will glance at a cave filled with warm streaming water right at the continental rift, one foot on the North American plate and the other on the Eurasian plate. Afterwards, you will move on to the high temperature field where you can see bubbling mud pools and fumaroles, and smell sulphur all around.
Krafla is the one active volcano in the north and its crater is your next destination. The day culminates in a relaxing dip in the nature baths of Mvatn, the 'Blue Lagoon' of the North, with a great view of the lake.
North Iceland offers the ideal setting to watch Northern Lights. This fascinating phenomenon arises from an interplay of many natural factors such as cold temperatures, cloudless skies, and high solar activity. To see the dance of lights is a gift of the northern winter and not a 100% guaranteed excursion.
You may even see them in Akureyri but their real beauty can only be seen far away from any unnatural light sources in total darkness. To try and ensure a successful tour Reclaim Your Self will check in advance the weather and aurora forecast, maps, and also the forecast for Northern Lights and choose the best night during the holiday to optimize your chances of seeing them. You will head out in a bus to a quiet wilderness from around 10 p.m.
There are many hidden waterfalls around Akureyri so you will head out one afternoon to explore a few of them with a local guide, who will take you to some undiscovered places in the area.
Emma was introduced to yoga in the mid 90s and has been teaching since 1998. Her background in dance and martial arts is evident in her dynamic, innovative and playful choreography, and understanding of anatomy and the subtle body. Her yogic path has led her to Mysore from practicing Ashtanga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois to advanced certification in the Jivamukti method. She is an advance certified Jivamukti teacher and facilitates the Jivamukti teacher trainings with Sharon Gannon and David Life.
You will be based in Akureyri, a charming town in the north of Iceland that is perfectly located for exploring wild nature. Iceland in the autumn means peace, tranquility, and mystic light. With the famous dance of the Northern Lights, the flat daytime sun, and the bright moonlit nights you can be sure of an unforgettable experience. When it is cold outside, the hot springs and baths provide their full blessing.
All meals are included in the price. Your meals will be prepared by the expert chef Bettina Campolucci who will prepare you delicious, nourishing, and healthy vegan meals with a wow factor. You can expect tasty meals that are gluten and sugar free as well as low in dairy. You will have plenty of fresh herbal teas and your drinking water is included. Please note that this retreat is alcohol free and you are encouraged to minimize or eliminate caffeine on this holiday.
