Overview

Permaculture & Yoga Retreat Costa Rica

  • 6 days with instruction
  • Spend some time with Rancho Delicioso and Anamaya in the jungle and learn to design a bountiful garden that supports all life! With the era of consumerism, the world faces many challenges from loss of habitat, to environmental degradation and social disconnection. Rancho Delicioso believes its time to cultivate opportunities for positive change and learning. Permaculture - derived from the words permanent and culture - is a design science based on mimicking efficient patterns and relationships found in nature. Permaculture is yoga for the land, as yoga is permaculture for the body.

The "River Palace" is one of the most spectacular buildings in Costa Rica. Built over the intersection of three river valleys, you access it from one of the three bridges. Most of the beds inside are round, hanging "nest beds". Imagine a luxury Tarzan experience and you'll be halfway there.

    Permaculture workshops

    Introduction to permaculture daily workshops:

    Understanding the principles of permaculture

Observing microclimates and learning to listen to your intuition

Mimicking nature to create a sustainable garden design

Learning the important first stages of gardening - seeding, transplanting, creating raised bed lasagna, mulching, as well as how to polyculture the plants

Creation of a mandala garden with plants and flowers

Investigating medicinal plants, and those that can aid survival and homesteading

    Aerial silk basics

Ever wonder what its like to dance in the air? This workshop teaches how to move with the silks using breathing techniques that prevent muscle exhaustion. This is a fun way to activate all muscle groups, while learning a few tricks to show your family and friends back home.

    Daily yoga classes

You dont have to be a ballerina doing split handstand to be able to practice yoga. Whether you are a beginner just wanting to stretch, or an advanced level yogi, Rancho Deliciosos daily classes will allow you to connect with your body.

    Yoga at Anamaya Resort

The yoga decks at Rancho Deliciosos partner resort - Anamaya - are truly spectacular. With views over Montezuma and out to the ocean, it is a wonderful place to practice at the beginning or end of the day.

    Healthy cooking and nutrition

The truth is we can all cook like Nigella Lawson without using ingredients from the whole world. Learn to live sustainably by using local seasonal produce to create magic on your plate. From kefir to sauerkraut workshops and making dehydrated chips coated in cashew goodness, these workshops will leave your mouth watering and your body craving more.

No trip to Costa Rica would be complete without a chance to dive in, balance your body, and feel the power of the ocean. Surfboards and surf classes, boogie boards rentals, etc., require an extra fee, but two trips to enjoy the beach are included. You will also go down to Montezuma to experience the music, dance, and nightlife of the town's vibrant bohemian scene on Thursday night. Sometimes you will go Monday too, if anything special is happening there. And as though it wasn't all enough, you will also go hiking to the famous Montezuma waterfall, where you can jump or dive into one of its three deep warm pools.

Rancho Delicioso is a twenty-five-hectare (61 acres) property in the center of the Southern Nicoya Peninsula, which is the prettiest beach area of Costa Rica, and includes the beach towns of Montezuma and Santa Teresa. At the heart of Rancho Delicioso is an organic farm, part of which is owned by Anamaya Yoga Resort. Anamaya is investing in its own lots (1.25 acres) and is using other 2-3 acres for orchards and additional gardening. The idea is to grow the food for the yoga retreat guests, to provide local, fresh, and organic produce.

    • Review by Irmydel Pilar Lugo-Velazquez

"This experience reinforced my conviction of making a sustainable living. Before, I felt out of place where I live; I knew that there should be another sustainable way to live, but had no direction as to where to start. The internet has so much information, but I found that seeing it in person is the best way to learn. These people live and use earth's resources in the purest way, wasting as little as possible. Everything is done here, from grinding chocolate and coffee, to composting organic waste and paper, to making their own hygiene products and essential oils. "

"I learned so much about permaculture, and it gave me the direction I was missing on how to put the knowledge into practice. They are also very savvy on yoga and meditation, with techniques that enhanced my experience with it and made me want to dig deeper into it. The fact that the people in the farm are so cool and genuine and the surroundings are so beautiful, only made the experience better. All the people in our group felt that this was a life-changing experience."

"This is how life should be lived and these people are changing the world little by little. . The world needs more Ranchos Deliciosos."

We also met and spent much time with the volunteer on site. When we come back to Costa Rica, we will stay here again. Thanks again!"
