    Wunderbare Erholung in Lovina

Highly recommended yoga retreat with spa and excursions

CONS Cons: Yoga classes could have been a bit better, but the different teachers listened to our recommendations and changed accordingly, so overall very good. Also the yoga classes took place in a beautiful wooden house with large glass windows, located by the ocean. Absolutely beautiful place .

PROS Pros: I travelled by myself which was no worries at all at this place. Got picked up at the airport and everything worked out perfectly each day. Very friendly people with great service and excellent food. The excursion makes the retreat perfect as you get to see very interesting parts of Bali as well. Very relaxing place with a beautiful spa of great value. Everyone knew your name and I was very well taken care of.

A wonderful hotel, but not a yogaretreat.

CONS Cons: It is not a yoga retreat. It is a wonderful hotel with a possibility to buy a yogalesson. All the guest used the hotel as a normal hotel and did not do yoga. There were only us and One more person who joined the yogaclass. In my opinion that is NOT a yogaretreat. A lot of hotels have the same possibility in Bali.

PROS Pros: The staff are so serviceminded, and They will do everything for you. The hotel and the pool is wonderful.

    Just as advertised w

CONS Cons: If you're going to advertise cable to, maybe have more than 4 channels.

PROS Pros: Book an airport transfer. Lovina is gorgeous, but you have to travel for it. I arrived at 3am, so it wasn't until later on in the morning that I properly got to see where I was staying. Every stunning photo from TripAdvisor was real. The staff couldn't do enough to help, the trips were great, the yoga was just enough to push you out of your comfort zone and the grounds were paradise.

    Perfect Balinese retreat

    CONS Cons: Everything was great.

PROS Pros: Everything was just perfect. The location of the resort is breath taking, the facilities are modern and beautiful, the food is delicious but the best thing was the staff, the people itself. Everyone was super kind and geniue, I've got all the help I needed and even more. I can't be thankful enough for everything I've got from these people. The whole package let you to get to know the Balinese culture and its beautiful people. I would rather call it "Balinese retreat" because of all the great activities. Yoga was great but having more than once a day would be even better.

    Everything was perfect (but)

CONS Cons: I wish there was more yoga (once a day for an hour seems kind of minimal to be called a yoga retreat) or added meditation practice.. Also, the restaurant is supposedly 5 star, but it was pretty lack luster... I don't think I (or anyone I talked to) had a meal I was very impressed with...

PROS Pros: I absolutely loved this retreat. It was actually one of my favorite parts of my trip ( I was here for a month). The resort is top notch and very luxurious. The staff was very kind and accommodating and Ayu, the woman who runs the hotel is absolutely FABULOUS. Our yoga instructor was amazing, she was very nice, and gauged the skill level of our group perfectly.

PROS Pros: Every member of the staff at Pur Bagus was genuinely warm, friendly, charming, and hard working, going out of their way to make us feel special and give us a perfect holiday. The schedule Ayu set up for us for our 9 days allowed us to experience a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities, even time to relax by the pool and watch the sunset.

    Not really a yoga retreat

CONS Cons: Unfortunately there was little yoga involved in this yoga retreat. You are given a schedule union arrival with specific days and times for activities. During my five days, I only had 2, 1hr yoga classes on my schedule. After attending the first yoga class it also became evident that the 'yoga teachers' were not actually trained yoga teachers at all. I later found out they were the staff working in the resort who taught the yoga classes as it was too expensive for them to bring qualified yoga teachers in. Additionally, I had a leak in my bathroom, from the toilet, from my second day. I informed staff over 5 times however it was never fixed. Their solution was putting a bath towel on the floor to soak up the leaking water.

PROS Pros: The staff are fantastic and will go out of there way to help you. The location is very serene and quiet.

"The Yoga retreat in Puri Bagus Lovina was exactly what I have needed. I traveled alone and stayed in the resort for 12 days end Feb & early March. I for sure plan to come back :) hopefully again next year. Before I came to resort, I got excellent support from Mrs.Auy helping me book my stay and pick the best options. She was very kind and patient and even more nice in person! I worked in customer experience area for years, so was really delighted with the way that the staff in hotel treated me. It never happened to me before that the waiter would know my daily schedule and ask me if I am looking forward to it or how it was. This was not only kind but also practical (you know the feeling when you start relax and forget what kind of day it is or what was planned :-) ) The manager of restaurant was also very kind and nice, always took time to stop by and chat for a while."

"I had "negative" experience first night seeing Gekon's in my cabin...imagine I have never seen Gekons before and normaly have issues falling asleep when seeing spider :D. The staff tried to explained to me they are normal and they don't hurt you, were very nice to me and even offered to move to other cabin next day... I decided to stay & after couple of days made my peace with it and took it that this is my first Bali lesson - fight my fears! So happy ending . "

"The Spa, food and hotel area - all was excellent. Missing the massages & magical hands of the ladies in SPA, it was really heaven. "

"When it comes to yoga, I need admit it was not excellent - some Yoga classes were amazing and some average... it really depends who leads the class. The guy was obviously missing intuition/teaching skills that the other ladies had for sure... he really tried, maybe with time it will get better but to give honest review, I need admit I have enjoyed the classes led by the ladies more, their yoga lessons were just amazing. As mentioned I for sure plan come back and would like this way to thank the team for amazing time I had earlier in year "

"I booked the 10 days yoga retreat at Puri Bagus Lovina and enjoyed every second tremendously. I had such a good time that I decided to stay 4 nights longer."

"Location is perfect a true haven of solitude and chilling out. The room (like a little cottage really) was spacious and super clean. Bed sheets were cleaned every day. Everywhere in the room and in the resort itself you could see that so much attention to details was paid. I mentioned one morning that a mosquito woke me up and the problem was quickly solved by hanging a mosquito net above my bed. People are super friendly and help you to make your stay relaxing and welcome."

"The yoga retreat was excellent. We had our yoga every morning with the sound of the sea in the background. I especially loved the combination of the yoga with the possibility to get to know the people of Bali and their culture and tradition better. Food was excellent."

"So really nothing to complain and full of praise for this lovely place. I will definitely come again and would really recommend this place!!"

"Thank you Ayu, Ketut, Katek, Puya, Winda, Wiwi and all the other, you are lovely people!!"

"We are a couple from Austria and Spain and we spent the best 10 days of our life in Puri Bagus Lovina. Seriously! We travel a lot and have seen a lot of places, but this Yoga Retreat was one of the best. The location is charming, the accomodation spacious and romantic (I recommend the bungalows with ocean view!) and the staff super friendly. Everything was really good organized, especially the excursions to amazing places: don’t miss the Sekumpur Waterfall! There was no wish, which could not be fulfilled. Far from tourism we found an oasis of peace and happiness. We highly recommend Puri Bagus Lovina."

"Our 9 day yoga retreat at Puri Bagus was an amazing experience. The resort itself was a piece of paradise. The traditional Bali layout of the resort was great. The rooms were large, very clean, furnished to a high standard. The beds were comfortable, aircon worked a treat and the place was very quiet. Most areas, including the incredible yoga shala and the open area spa,, had views of the waters."

"Staff were a delight and made the experience special. Their happy, relaxed, unhurried workplace created an aura of calm."

"The organic food and use of natural, local products was a great fit with a yoga destination. the Hatha yoga was a little different to what we were used to but we soon got used to it. The class was suitable for a range of levels from beginner, through middle of the road twice a week practitioners to real experts with some difficult poses offered for those more advanced students."

"The program arranged around the yoga gave a great overview of the culture and customs of the Balinese Hindu people. Some of the activities that we thoroughly enjoyed were:"

"Hindu purification ceremony; Trip to the food markets to purchase tuna and other ingredients for our Balinese cooking class; Dolphin cruise; snorkeling trip by boats to a local coral reef; visit to an ashram and orphanage; visit to a local rice farmer and his family. It goes without saying that the spa treatments were of good quality and very enjoyable."

"Overall this was a magical and all round experience."

"I went here for seven days solo for the yoga retreat and had an amazing time. The rooms are spacious, clean with a beautiful indoor and outdoor shower. The pool area was beautiful overlooking to the sea. The spa was amazing, definitely one of the best massages I've had, and you get given delicious honey ginger tea before your treatment. The staff were definitely the best out of any hotel I've been before. They all made me feel very welcomed, most of them knew my name without me even telling them. All so friendly and kind, especially Ayu. Want to say a big thank you to her, she replied very quickly to my endless emails before coming to the resort, and would always check on how I was doing while at the resort. I would recommend this hotel, and definitely will be coming back."

    "Beautiful resort, amazing staff!"

"We booked an ocean view villa, and were immediately impressed with how spacious and beautifully the room was preared for us. So many special little touches (flowers, fruit, soft bathrobes), and especially loved the outside shower! We could just take a few steps to the beach, to the spa, a covered shore side sun bed, or lounge by the pool. Puri Bagus was just the right size for us. It's large enough to have all the amenities we wanted, but small enough that the staff soon knows you by name. We booked a yoga retreat package - it was amazing. Beautiful wood yoga facility beside the ocean, two wonderful instructors, Cadet and Gusti. We had a daily scenic or cultural excursion or activity, with still lots of time to relax. And the food....simply delicious! The hotel managers, Ayu and Keta, were so attentive that we felt pretty special. Thank you for an excellent stay. Gerry and Christine"

    "Second time still beautiful"

"After being mesmerised several years back by this beautiful Balinese villa by the sea, where you have the opportunity to observe dolphins st dawn, I booked it again and was still very pleased with the experience. "

    ""

"The only downside was the menu at the restaurant, which had become too Westernised for my liking. I guess it is in response to guests' feedback but I find it really sad that people would go to Bali to have pizza, when a rich and flavoursome local cuisine is available. "

"visited Puri Bagus for a one week yoga retreat earlier in March. This place is right on the ocean with gorgeous views from a pedicured landscape and that infinity pool that everyone dreams of in the dead of winter in England. "

    ""

"The first thing that is obvious is how lovely and helpful the staff were, every step of the way. Ayu (customer relations) was always so kind and helpful, even via email before I arrived. She went above and beyond her duties to ensure I, as well as the other yoga retreat attendees had everything we needed for a peaceful and relaxing trip. "

    ""

"The restaurant was great with delicious and fresh food and very polite staff. If anything, there were too many menu choices! Very large portions, I could barely ever finish my entire meal. "

    ""

"The spa is in a beautiful outdoor space that reminds me of Ancient Rome or something. This is the one aspect, although so beautiful left something to be desired. The staff there were friendly. I got one massage and one pedicure. For the level of service, it was overpriced. They didn't have the full set up for comfortable pedicures and the polish selection was poor and no brands that I recognized. "

    ""

"My room was great. The only complaint I have is that for me personally, the bed was way too hard and the pillows too stiff. That said, it was like that at every hotel I stayed at in Bali, save the Sheraton. I like firm mattresses with a nice soft layer on top or I don't sleep very well - which has only happened to me since I had two children and crept up closer and closer to 40 ;) "

"Looking back, I could have asked for a huge stack of blankets and made my own topper. The indoor and outdoor showers were great and the staff kept the rooms clean. "

    ""

"I enjoyed the yoga and the space for this was so beautiful. One of the instructors was a little inexperienced, but in speaking with Ayu about this, she said they are improving this area and will have more experienced instructors, but at the moment they teach beginner to intermediate. "

    ""

"All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. It was my first solo vacation since having kids 5 starting 5 years ago. Did it feel like a yoga retreat? Not fully, but I didn't mind that."

The location is very good and very quiet. The pool is nice and having beach right here you have both options. Breakfast is included and has options. There is not a lot to do around the area unless you head into Lovina town.... but very relaxing and the yoga is awesome. There are a small number of good restaurants walking distance too. The rooms are really spacious and very clean offering inside and outside showers! Really recommend and we would come back."

"I booked the 10 days yoga retreat at Puri Bagus Lovina and enjoyed every second tremendously. I had such a good time that I decided to stay 4 nights longer"

"Location is perfect a true haven of solitude and chilling out. The room (like a little cottage really) was spacious and super clean. Bedsheets were cleaned every day.

"We stayed at this hotel in January during our 10 week travel through South East Asia. We arrived late afternoon and were a little stunned to find no one to help carry our heavy bags up the stairs into the foyer, which is a far cry from the last hotel we stayed at where a few people would be clammering over each other to claim your bags."

    ""

"The hotel is a little out of town, though we came here for only two nights for an early morning boat ride to see wild (yes wild, not captured) dolphins, and we were ideally placed for that alone."

    ""

"The resort is actually quite fantastic in its layout and amenities, and we made great use of the pool and beach area while we were there. "

    ""

"We stayed in a deluxe ocean view room and were not disappointed, the room was exactly as advertised, a good size room, and had superb views and beach access. The room stay in the room was let down by the poor TV (only four or five poorly received TV channels) and in room entertainment."

"The restaurant staff at the hotel were very friendly, especially the restaurant manager, what a lovely guy. We had dinner in the dining room the first night, both Raquel and I ordered separate set menus. Mine was quite delicious with ample food for a hungry person, though Raquel's fish was way too salty so it was returned to the kitchen. And we had a very awkward breakfast experience; Raquel had ordered a continental breakfast which normally includes fruit and a selection of danish/breads, though she was only served fruit and when we asked about the danish it all become very awkward when they asked what she wanted? Sad watching your partner sit with a plate of fruit while you eat you breakfast and she’s waiting for her main, and is near begging for some actual food, of which it’s a good thing I had some danish, cause all they brought her out was some plain croissants, just damn right rude and unconcerning."

"We were going to rate this hotel one star due to the tardy front office when we arrived and the very poor form at breakfast, though we hired the hotel driver to take us to Sanur (over three hours away) and he made our journey such a good one. He offered to stop for us to take photos, he was concerned for us not eating, so we stopped to get corn, he even helped us in Sanur by being patient while we found a place to stay. I’m really sorry to forget your name, but Raquel and I really appreciate your kindness and caring attitude, and your wonderful humility, you’re such a lovely guy. Blessings :-) So sad the hotel isn’t full of guys like this."

"This is a find: very good food, lovely large room with ocean view (there are also garden rooms which are nice too, and less expensive); yoga twice a day; other activities (scuba, snorkeling, scooter rentals, touring, etc. all nearby. Gorgeous infinity pool, lovely grounds with flowers, statues, all impeccably kept. Also, a very reasonable spa."

"Puri Bagus Lovina is a picturesque beach side resort with ready access to snorkelling and dolphin watching and other sites in the Singaraja area. It is a great resort to relax and unwind. The staff were very friendly and tried their utmost to provide excellent service. The Ocean Deluxe villas have beautiful views on the beach, are spacious and have great outdoor showers and a lovely veranda. I loved that the resort's temple was in the centre, rather than the southwest corner, which is traditional (all resorts in Bali have a Hindu temple onsite). The restaurant manager was kind enough to provide me with access to the temple and explained the alters and some of the Balinese views on spirituality. I had a wonderful massage and hair treatment onsite by a very caring and well trained therapist. They also provide yoga classes by well trained yoga teachers. I really enjoyed participating in the more traditional hatha style yoga classes. There is some reasonable snorkelling in front of the resort but you need to be careful of sea urchins, so we took at boat out, which gave us access to better fish and coral. Lovina is still a quiet area in regards to tourism which has its pros and cons. The food in the region is average, but i think they are trying very hard to accommodate foreigners. Personally, I would have preferred to see more Balinese and Indonesian options on the menu and a few more vegetarian items at Puri Bagus. The pool was great and very safe for families. We would definitely recommend Puri Bagus to travellers and hope to return again soon."

"I went here for 7 days solo for the yoga retreat and had an amazing time. I would recommend this hotel, and definitely will be coming back"

"I stayed in Bali on my own in June, I spent a week travelling everyday trying to see as most of the country as I could. I then traveled to Lovina to start my relaxing 10 day yoga retreat, I had high hopes and I definitely wasn't disappointed! When I arrived I was greeted by all members of staff who would be taking care of me including the lady I had been emailing over the past month - Ayu. My first activity was 5 p.m. yoga, wow! Yoga in front of the sunset on the beach was incredible! The following morning I was taken for a purification ceremony in the local temple which I highly recommend! I loved how the staff in the hotel wanted to make you feel as involved and immersed in the culture as possible! During my stay I had 7 a.m. yoga one on one everyday and I also got to do other activities including a sunrise dolphin tour, trips into the town, spa treatments and an authentic cooking lesson! I did get lots of time to relax in the sun or in the pool also. By far one of the most amazing experiences was a visit to a local ashram/orphanage where I met a yoga master and all the beautiful children he cares for. I was luck enough to have two yoga lessons with them and it is a memory I will treasure forever. My stay was made especially special by the people I met. Firstly Ayu who I spoke with before I arrived and who organised my who timetable! She was amazing and attentive and made my experience fulfilling. Secondly Kadek who was the most amazing yoga teacher, spa therapist and friend to me while I was there. She was so patient with me in yoga and taught me things that I have taken home with me. She was very attentive and made sure I was always happy and enjoying my time. She took me to the purification ceremony and also to the ashram and it was so lovely! Then there was Ketut, he was so amazing! He worked in the restaurant and couldn't have been more helpful! I am a vegan and he couldn't have been more considerate and accommodating towards me. He also ran the cooking class and took me into town where he showed me the traditional foods and also some traditional Balinese vegan dishes. Also credit to Winda who worked in the restaurant for being the sweetest to me and taking me to the best juice bar in town. To all the girls in the Spa, to all the care takers and all the waiters. Everyone was amazing and I cannot recommend this place enough!! I will definitely be going back and hope to bring family with me on my next visit! "

"We have just returned from our third visit to this truly special place in the North of Bali . There are newer , flashier hotels at Lovina but none that have the beautiful gardens and spacious layout of rooms as does the Puri Bagus . A clear sea laps against a garden laden with exotic flowers and trees and this is framed each evening by the most spectacular sunset. We would sit on our verandah, gin and tonic in hand , enjoying the gentle breeze and perfect tropical scene . The staff are excellent , the rooms large with lovely outdoor showers and the dining area is cleverly designed to maximise the wonderful views out to sea . The pool is deceptively large , the spa facilities very good indeed and it is possible to walk from the resort to a number of little restaurants nearby. We love it and wouldn't stay anywhere else."

"I wasn't sure of being so out of the way, but this place is the perfect getaway. There is enough to do if you want sightseeing and water activities. Otherwise the perfect place to rest, read, massage, yoga, swim and eat ! The gardens, pool area, rooms were all immaculately kept. I loved the Traditional bungalow of yesteryear with all the comforts of today. The food was amazing, Ketut in the restaurant could not do enough for us. The Spa is a dream, on the beachfront, fresh air and one of the best massage I have had. Can't wait to try the other Puri Bagus properties around Bali."

"Now I'm not blaming the hotel as they are only offering the activity like everybody in Lovina, but do yourself and the dolphins a favor and don't go on a dolphin watching trip. They are completely overcrowded and a sad sight of you care about animal welfare at all."

The infinity pool is amazing, like swimming in the ocean without the salt and seaweed as you look like you're about to swim into the ocean. Staff are wonderful and the food is amazing. "This was the best hotel we had in Indonesia. It has very lovely huts with lot of space and a nice shower inside and outside. After arriving from Java we were very surprised how nice this hotel was! The welcome was great with a nice tea and a cold tower so we could refresh ourselves after a long ride. The people at the desk were very kind to ask if they could provide anything. The bedroom was very clean and the bed was very comfortable."

"The breakfast buffet was complete and of good quality and the personnel is happy to provide you with anything you need (tea, scrambled eggs or anything customized)."

"The gardens outside the huts are also clean and calm, you can have a view on the calm sea or use one of the sunbeds at the pool. There are not too many huts in the resort so the pool isn't overwhelmed either. This hotel was one of the best places to relax on our round trip, although Bali has many nice calm and comfortable resorts, we would choose this one when we'd ever return."

"We have just returned from our second trip to the Puri Bagus Lovina and once again it was just paradise. Ayu and Ketut could not do enough for us to ensure our stay was more memorable than last time. I would definitely recommend a room overlooking the sea as it is just the perfect place to sit on the patio and reflect or relax on the Bali Bulong with a slight sea breeze lulling you to sleep. The rooms are large and welcoming and the outdoor shower is amazing, showering under the stars! The gardens are beautifully tended and we were given a coconut each time one was cut down. Breakfast is typical buffet style with eggs cooked to order but the food in the restaurant is excellent the chef will go out of his way to cook anything just how you like it or at variance to the menu. We were lucky enough to stay over New Year's Eve and all the staff made an exceptional effort to make a wonderful evening's entertainment and meal. It really was an evening to remember. Having travelled many times to Bali and stayed all over the island, I would thoroughly recommend making the effort to travel north to Lovina and stay at the Puri Bagus for a completely relaxing experience. Hopefully see you again in May!"

I stayed here for one night with my husband and two children (10 and 13) where we had our own private pool shared between two rooms. The staffs were very attentive and we all enjoyed our food in their restaurant. It was such a pleasure to stay away from the noise and the smell of the petrol from other places. Definitely the place to go to and relax, enjoy the slower pace of life. I would have stayed longer here for my entire stay in Bali."

"So my family and I moved to Bali about three months ago to put our kids in the Green School here. Since arriving we have been doing a couple of weekend escapes per month to various areas on the island. If you are looking for the true unspoiled Bali, this is it. I was told that once upon a time all of Bali was this stunning. There is zero night life here. Thank goodness. But if you are looking to find stillness and inner peace, they are in abundance here. I've now been twice, but we just got back from three days there with another family who also have three young children (all under 10).Our family rented the family villa. It was clean, large, and right on the manicured lawn, 20 meters from the ocean. To rent this villa at a comparable resort in Nusa Dua or Jimbaran would cost double. The other family stayed in two adjacent garden view villas, which they loved as well. The owner of the resort also owns an organic farm, so much of the produce is organic. And the resort is sitting on top of a natural spring, so the beautiful infinity pool is filled with mineral water. The Spa is open air and lovely, and the massages are great, and a great value (less than 20 USD).The breakfast buffet is great. Kids were happy with all meals - parents, too. A special shout out to the restaurant manager Ketut - he is a wonderful steward of the place and easy conversationalist who taught me more about Bali in three conversations than I've learned in months. And to Ibu Ayu but as far as I can tell, she is the heart and soul of the place. On a previous visit two weeks earlier a friend visiting from the States came down with a very intense flu, and Ayu and Ketut were his caretakers and nursed him back to health. An absolute must-do day trip is to go hike and jump off the three waterfalls at Aling-Aling (about 20 minutes away). There are also two natural rock slides there. Our two year old went down the tiny rock slide with her mommy, our six year old went down the 35 foot rock slide, and our nine year old son jumped off the 16 meter cliff which was easily the peak experience of his life. There is a local guide there named Bob. Bob is a beautiful man and a bit of a shaman whether he knows it or not. We rented a small boat one morning at sunrise to go see the dolphins. While we didn't see any dolphins, the boat ride was worth the price. Apparently the dolphins are more abundant during the rainy season. The best snorkeling is on the reef to the right of the tall buoy, about 300 meters offshore, straight out from the new yoga building."

"Staying in Lovina, we were looking for a nice and luxurious spa to treat ourselves well. On the web we found Puri Bagus Lovina hotel should have a spa as well. Just on the outskirts of Lovina, sandwiched between the beach and the rice paddies, the hotel is located on an amazing spot! We were picked up by the Puri Bagus Lovina hotel driver and enjoyed their hospitality. The lovely garden, the friendliness of the staff, lots of eye for detail. It made it all a great experience. We received our massage in the garden on the edge of the beach area in a small "gazebo" where during the massage we could listen to the crashing waves. I would suggest to spend a bit more time on their premises like we did and it is definitely worth it!The place should definitely be listed in the attractions section, but that seems unavailable, therefore I put it under the hotel review. "I was never too fond of Lovina, neither my husband, until we visited Puri Bagus Lovina. We did not know there was a hotel of this category located just on the beach in this area. The place maintains the traditional Balinese feeling, offering elegant decoration and good comfort. The location cannot be better, on the beach, there is no other tourist around, and the locals here doesn't try to sell you anything. They come to beach just to enjoy or fish as they used to do before the tourists arrive. Their restaurant is excellent, very good quality and incredible portions. I would say is one of best restaurants in this area, even people from other hotels come here to eat. From here you can easily spend two or three days visiting interesting places: Buddhist temple, hot springs of Banjar, the waterfalls, snorkeling, watch the sunrise with the dolphins on a boat, and trekking. If you have more time, I would recommend to also go to Pemuteran and take a boat to Menjangan Island. Puri Bagus Lovina, there is one of the most amazing (and easy for any beginner) snorkeling experiences that I had until now. If you are looking for a real Balinese and relaxing experience, this is the place to go to in the North Coast."
