Rooms are single gender unless pre-arranged by couples. The rooms are not en-suite but there are two guest bathrooms to share between all six guests. Don’t worry if you want to come alone, Primal Retreat will place you in a room with another person of the same gender. This is a great way to make friends.


On the weekend retreat you can expect a variety of low and high intensity exercise. You will have approximately four and a half hours of workout depending, of course, on your resistance and fitness level.

The routines are always different and they include a long walk in the morning, followed by an afternoon circuit, or boxing fitness, or natural movement class. Each day is finished with a late afternoon yoga session.

You will be part of a small group which means you will receive a very personalized approach and get adequate attention from your trainers. There will also be some time allocated daily for rest, which is an important part of the re-energizing and relaxation process.

The schedule is designed to burn fat, tone, improve the agility, power, and mobility. It is important to mention that there will be plenty of downtime to recover and relax.

Exercise and fitness

On all residential retreats, you can expect a variety of low and high intensity exercise. You will have up to five hours of exercise per day which will include a long walk in the morning, an afternoon circuit, boxing fitness or natural movement class, and then finish with a late afternoon yoga session to wind down before dinner.

Natural movement has grown in popularity over recent years with the growing realization that humans need to reconnect with nature and rediscover how the bodies are designed to move.

You will practice techniques such as balancing, crawling, jumping, lifting, throwing, and climbing. These drills are fun, exhilarating, and will leave you feeling stronger, fitter, with improved mobility and agility.

No experience is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome. You train within your own ability and fitness level.

Stuart is co-founder and fitness trainer at Primal Retreat. He has been an avid health and fitness enthusiast for over 20 years. He has trained in a wide selection of martial arts for over 10 years including Muay Thai boxing, Kick boxing, Taekwondo, Aikido, and Krav Maga. His other passions are running, weight lifting, hiking, and walking. He strongly believes that the more positive energy you put into life, the more you get out, as well as persistence being the key to success.
Lorraine is co-founder and fitness trainer at Primal Retreat. She has trained in Muay Thai Boxing in Thailand and ran the marathon in Taiwan. Other fitness interests include; weight lifting, walking, swimming in the sea, and skiing. Lorraine has a passion for cooking and cooks all of the delicious and nutritious meals on the retreats. Lorraine also teaches the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga classes.

Retreat location

You will be staying in a stunning and peaceful location in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Woodbridge is a special place with ample natural beauty, riverside walks, wild nature reserves, and a large forest to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

East Anglia is also known for having one of the highest amounts of sunshine in the United Kingdom with warm summers, mild winters, and light rain all year long.

The menu is based on the paleo diet. The paleo lifestyle is not about counting calories or having multiple restrictions. Foods are extremely nutritious, healthy, and tasty. It is simple wholesome food that should leave you full with a feeling of satisfaction and well-being.

Expect a mix of wild caught fish, seafood, free range chicken, fresh meats, fresh vegetables, fresh salad, and eggs. A little dairy is available and optional.

The meals are fresh, low in carbohydrates, and cooked with traditional oils and fats. Please mention before if you have allergies or special dietary requirements. Any of the dishes include processed foods, sugar, grains, legumes, soy, processed vegetable oils, fruit juice, or sweeteners.

How to get there

Arrival by train

Woodbridge is about one and a half hours by train from London Liverpool Street. A free local pick up and return can be arranged from Woodbridge train station upon request with Primal Retreat.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 14 days before arrival.
