Accommodation

You will stay for 6 nights in a shared twin chalet at Krishnatheeram Ayur Holy Beach Resort. Single rooms are available at an additional cost. 4 nights will be spent in Chennai and Trivandrum during your trip to and back from Varkala.

Program

During this retreat, you will salute the Sun in Southern India and practice daily asana, pranayama, meditation, Nidra yoga, and the Aroha kriya. This retreat is your time to relax, restore, and revive. There are lots to learn about India and how to travel and enjoy your stay there. All participants will receive a list of guidelines and suggestions and of course useful dos and don'ts upon registration.

Basic structure of the retreat

  • August 27: Arrive in India and stay for one night in Chennai.
  • August 28: Fly to Trivandrum - either spend one night in Trivandrum or transfer by vehicle to Varkala (approximately 1.5 hours).
  • August 28 - September 5: Seven days of yoga and rest days in Varkala - one rest day will include an excursion as does on yoga day.
  • September 5: Return flight to Trivandrum and spend one night there.
  • September 6: Return to Chennai and have a return flight home or continue with the Pondicherry trip.

  • 06:00 - 07:30 Yoga class
  • 07:30 - 09:30 Breakfast
  • 10:00 - 11:00 Karma yoga (selfless service)
  • 11:00 - 14:00 Free time
  • 14:00 - 15:00 Nidra yoga
  • 16:00 - 16:30 Explore the breath or meditation (alternate days)
  • 17:00 - 18:30 Yoga class
  • 18:30 - 20:00 Dinner
  • 20:00 - 20:30 Explore the breath or meditation (alternate days)

Please note that all time practices above are optional.

Instructors

Premaloka
Premaloka teaches traditional Hatha yoga on the beautiful island of Waiheke. Yoga has been a part of her life since childhood. Amongst other centers, she has trained at Ashram Yoga, in Auckland. She has studied levels 1, 2, and 3 advanced and yoga therapy and also studied separately meditation, yoga philosophy, and pregnancy yoga. She has been teaching for many years now, several of these on Waiheke Island, and hold a 500-hour Yoga Alliance registration.

You will be served breakfasts and dinners of South Indian vegetarian cuisine. For your lunches in India, food can be extremely cheap depending on where you choose to eat, so very little extra money would be needed.

Pondicherry trip

This trip is optional with an extra cost of 600 NZD. The package includes a transfer by vehicle to Pondicherry from Chennai (approximately 3 hours), 5 nights' accommodation (shared twin room) with breakfast only, 2 trips to Auroville and the Matrimandir, a trip to the Ganesh temple, and 5 yoga classes.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 60 days before the arrival date.
