Surfing makes you acutely conscious of the water's energy and flow, much like a yogic breath, and this energy and flow should be used to their full potential. Surfing is a beautiful sport, but requires a focused body and mind, and for that reason the combination with yoga is just perfect!

You will be staying in a shared double room with a shared bathroom or a 4 pers bedroom with ensuite bathroom. For an extra fee, Prana Casa can give you the double room for private use. The peaceful property is located in an urbanization in the middle of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, on the west coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The entrance to the Rota Vicentina trail, the old fisherman's trail that follows the coastline, is within an only 5-minute walking distance of the accommodation.

The house has a large garden boasting shady olive trees, an extended herb, a pool bar with an outdoor kitchen and a beautiful meditation garden where you can practice your meditation any time a day. A swimming pool allows guests to sunbathe and relax while talking with friends and fellow guests. On most days, yoga classes will take place on the wooden yoga deck in the garden, while bad weather sees the class head indoors.


The physical benefits of practicing yoga as a surfer are, for example, improved balance, flexibility, lung capacity, and core strength, and it also decreases the risk of injury. This is why practitioners of both yoga and surfing benefit from the physical and mental enhancements of the combined exercises.

Prana Casa has developed a program in which they marry these two lifestyles. You will start your days with an energizing morning yoga practice, after which you will enjoy a healthy power breakfast, and prepare for a day of surf and fun on the beach.

You will end each day with a relaxing activity and a healthy, freshly cooked, vegetarian dinner coupled with some storytelling (one afternoon is completely off).

Retreat location

This retreat will take place in the Southwest of Algarve, Portugal. This Nature Reserve offers a pristine coastline; beautiful landscapes, old villages and numerous beaches, such as the infamous Arrifana, Monte Clerigo, Amoreira, Amado, and Odeceixe.

Your food is prepared by your yoga instructor and is healthy yet simple so you could be inspired to take some recipes home and integrate a healthy lifestyle in a simple way to your busy lifestyle. Every day, there is a healthy breakfast buffet and 4 home-cooked vegetarian (or vegan) dinners, 1 afternoon they take you to a local restaurant where you will enjoy local fish or meat. If the weather is good, they will try to organize a fish/veggie BBQ in the garden. One night is free for you to decide where you like to go and eat (at own cost) this will be on a day where we do morning yoga, breakfast, and mindful walk, cause it allows you to enjoy the whole afternoon without having to look at the time somewhere else.

There are limited facilities to cook your own lunch, since they have set up a basic outside kitchen, but rather than cooking yourself you can pre-order a 5 EUR packed lunch deal which you can keep or bring along with you and enjoy wherever you like. Going out for lunch though is super cheap in Portugal: A drink is around 1 EUR and fresh soups are sold for around 2 euros, or you look for a prato de dia (dish of the day) in any restaurant which will cost you around 7.50 EUR.

Things to do (optional)

During the day you will have also enough time for yourself to go to the beach, relax at the saltwater pool, go for a walk in the national park, book a horse ride tour, take a mountain bike ride, or treat yourself with an hour relaxing massage. If you rent a car, you can visit the beautiful area at your own leisure.

Hiking the Rota Vicentina, the "fisherman's trail"

Tracking right next to the coastline, the Rota Vicentina follows the trails used by locals to reach the beaches and hot fishing spots. It is a single track along the cliffs, with plenty of sand, which can only be explored by foot. Since your accommodation is nestled in the Costa Vicentina natural park, it is recommended you discover some parts of the famous Rota Vicentina.

Adventure Horse Riding

Set your spirit free and learn to trust the beautiful nature of the horses. Instructors will guide you through tracks along the beautiful coastline.

Biking and mountain biking

The Southwest has a wide network of mainly unmapped dirt tracks that are great fun to explore on a (mountain) bike, with trips customized for all levels of ability. Meander through colorful drifts of spring flowers and forests or see the ripening grapes and wheat fields in the autumn. Visit archaeological sites, fantastic beaches, and unspoiled villages as you pedal along some of the quietest roads in Europe. The more adventurous choose to ride a mountain-bike as in this part of Portugal. Since most roads are still unpaved, you can go on forever and just follow your nose.
