Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains near the village of Juluchuca, Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine and private beach.

The property's nearly 200 acres includes an estuary, an Aztec archaeological site, turtle sanctuary, and a coastal forest and mangrove ecosystem which supports an array of stunning wildlife. Playa Viva is close enough to the trappings of modernity yet worlds away providing immersion into the wonders of nature and escape to utter private relaxation.

During this retreat, you will be served three daily abundant and organic locally-sourced meals, mostly vegetarian but also with fish options, coffee, tea, and light snacks throughout the day. At Playa Viva, depending on the season, there is a thriving organic garden with a variety of vegetables. Come pick your own salad fixings.

Walk the nascent orchard and pick fresh pomegranates, mangoes, cashew nuts, and pistachios. The farm produces almost all the supply for the resort and also local small farmers who provide milk, cheese, and eggs. You are invited to come volunteer and work in the garden.

At Playa Viva, health is taken very seriously, for the earth and for the people. Playa Viva provides a variety of holistic approaches to healing, much of which revolve around a healthful diet and nutrition. In addition to providing local, organic food, guest chefs will guide you on a healthful nutritional plan.

The estuary, wetlands, and ocean side provide nesting and feeding grounds for thousands of birds. You will be able to identify and observe more than 200 species. Playa Viva regularly has guest biologist who catalogue many of the bird species on site.

Estuary expedition

Hop in a flat-bottom boat and tour the estuary, gliding past mangroves, nests of cranes, and native wildlife, or rent a kayak and venture off to explore the wonders of this tropical paradise on your own. Kayaking is available in nearby estuary and with homemade kayaks.

Whether it's surfing, shopping, or seeking arts and entertainment, there are lots of transport and guide options to host you on whatever tour strikes your fancy. The focus of excursions is to find local operators and promote activities that will engage you with the local community.

One of the most popular is the Sierra excursions. Ride a four-wheel drive up the watershed to visit a family that lives off-grid in the mountains, growing all they need including coffee and cacao. This lovely family will provide you a tour of their farm and then invite you to join them for a late breakfast.

The 160-acre private reserve has trails to take you from the beach, through dunes, into wetlands, and up rocky knolls. The permaculture team is restoring a network of paths to allow visitors to fully enjoy the biodiversity that Playa Viva has to offer. You will be provided with a complimentary field guide of Playa Viva to identify the various trails with plenty of flora and fauna.

There are many opportunities for fishing at Playa Viva. These include taking a deep sea excursion from Ixtapa to catch marlin, tuna, and other deep sea fish. For those who want to stay closer to the shore, a personal instructor that has been fishing in the shores since he was a small boy, will teach you how to line fish or how to toss a perfect spiral net. Shore fish include the much prized rooster fish. Another option is taking a panga or kayak on the lagoon to fish in the estuary.

Horseback riding

Horses are available for riding at Playa Viva. The horses are clean, well-fed, and tame with western saddles and bridles. Local farmers and partners provide to the guests their horses for riding, including a pony available for kids. Playa Viva has a horse on site used for plowing and sometimes riding. The best part of riding at Playa Viva is the pure joy of letting go at full gallop on the beach or ride with your horse into the ocean.

Kayaking or panga

Immerse yourself in nature by taking a small group or private kayak tours in the many lagoons near Playa Viva. The state of Guerrero, Mexico, is home to thousands of waterfowl and migratory birds. At Playa Viva, local fisherman can take you out on their panga or kayak, for a tour to the estuary, a great way to see birds, amphibians, mangrove, and gain a new perspective on Playa Viva.

Other activities

If you prefer stay close to the resort, there are also plenty of local activities like cooking classes with guest chefs, exploration of the local Aztec archaeological site, visit the unique turtle sanctuary, or volunteer at the farm to know more about the farm-to-table Mexican cuisine.

Snorkeling and scuba diving

Snorkeling and scuba diving is available through a local tour operator in Zihuatanejo, which is a very nice morning excursion. You may try snorkeling in the ocean right in front of Playa Viva and see lots of sea life, however it is open ocean so make sure to have company. Take a boat from beautiful Zihuatanejo bay to a remote coral reef with calm waters, a white sand beach, and plentiful aquatic life. No snorkeling experience is necessary.

Your guide, will be in the water with you giving tips and pointing out the wonders below. Face masks, flippers, and life jackets will be provided, as well as water and juice. The boat is covered, so those sensitive to the sun will have plenty of shade. After visiting the coral reef, the boat will tour the perimeter of the Zihuatanejo bay, where you will find great views of La Ropa Beach and the city of Zihuatanejo.

Playa Viva activities team offers some of the best surf on Mexico's Pacific Coast, for novice, intermediate and top surfers. Local surfing instructors welcome all skill levels. Breaks include Escolleras, Playa Linda, La Saladita, the Ranch, Mahajua, Troncones, Playa Manzanillo, Juluchuca, La Barrita, and Las Gatas, all within a one hour drive. Playa Viva is adjacent to Loma Bonita, one of the only locations in Mexico where top surfers can catch one of the few pipelines in all of Mexico.

When it comes to relaxing and pampering, Playa Viva is always staffed with a masseuse, some of whom can provide additional spa services such as facials and specialty scrubs using locally harvested materials. Services vary based on provider, so make sure to inquire about the spa menu when you arrive.

"The seven day retreat at Playa Viva in Mexico was a profoundly deep and gratifying experience for me. Jennifer and Ausra were an incredible team, who created such an inviting and safe space and guided us through always inspiring daily sessions of yoga and meditation, making the inner journey remarkably enriching and memorable. At the end, I found myself longing for more of the newfound calmness and clarity within."

"The place was spectacular and the food was fresh and delicious. Ausra and Jen led us smoothly to four days of silence. They prepared us with insightful guidances and were always available to support us in case we need it. Just a few days into the retreat, my body felt much lighter and my mind more connected to everything around. This retreat has brought me strength and clarity in my life."

"The first sight of the beach and the casita we would be staying in at Playa Viva for the next five nights was enough to make us forget the fact that it had taken us 24 hours to get there from our home in San Francisco."

"There are only 12 casitas on the property and we were told that capacity was around 50 people. There were never more than 25 people during our stay. The white sand beach stretches north and south along the Pacific for miles in either direction. And unlike the overcrowded conditions we encountered in Puerto Vallarta; there were no peddlers, people asking if you wanted your hair braided or anyone other than resort guests."

"This eco resort is centered around yoga and a spiritual recharging. We enjoyed free yoga every morning at 8:30. Many of our fellow guests were members of two different yoga retreats and had more rigorous schedules."

"Other than the set meal times (all meals buffet style, delicious and healthy), the only other appointments we had were massage times. We had a total of 7 massages given by yoga teachers and loved each one. The connection between yoga and massage makes for knowledgeable and incisive sessions."

"There are many other activities offered by the resort from scuba diving to visiting chocolate makers. We never left the resort."

"You can see the spectacular architecture in the attached shots. The location and facilities are first rate and pale only in comparison to the people who work here. Everyone was friendly and great at their jobs, Shout out to Julia, the manager and Johnnie the bartender/jack of all trades. Have one of Johnnie's special basil margaritas, you won't be sorry."

"Before our trip, Zihuatanejo was known only as Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins' dream destination in "The Shawshank Redemption." After spending time down there we now understand..."

"I booked a solo trip to Playa Viva for a yoga retreat through International Yoga. I was excited to escape the Chicago winter (I went in January) and take a week to zen out. "

"It was about about a 35-40 minute cab ride from the airport, but the cab fare was covered by the hotel. I just tipped the driver. It was an amazing sight upon arrival and I kept finding more and more jewels throughout the week. "

"Considering this is what they might call "Glam-ping," I was very, very, very concerned about bugs, scorpions particularly, so I wore my headlamp and had my hotel-issued blacklight with me everywhere I went after the sun went down. The other guests found it hilarious, but I was gonna spot the bugs before they spotted me! But I never had any bug encounters. The girls next door did though, something huge flew into their mosquito net as they were sleeping. I guess they didn't have it closed well enough. "

"Overall, the resort was beautiful, the staff and other guests were all nice. The beach was secluded and amazing. We saw whales from the pool. The turtles didn't hatch while I was there, so no news on that from me. "

"The FOOD. omg. THE FOOD. Every. Single. Meal was just amazing. There was fresh fish, octopus, tacos, barbacoa, horchata, fruit-infused water, and I had a couple of margaritas. I tend to not be very adventures with new foods, but I was like Pavlov's dog, salivating every time they rang the "Food's ready!" bell. And I don't know if it was the 3 hours of yoga every day or the amazing healthy food, but I lost 4 pounds ON VACATION. "

"The only bad thing that happened was the SUPER VIVID nightmares I had maybe 3 out of the 6 nights I was there. Other guests were having nightmares too and our yoga teacher told us it was our minds purging everything that we're used to thinking about."

"I highly recommend Playa Viva to everyone! And one of my friends actually took my recommendation and she loved it there as well. "

"If you go, send me a bag of Playa Viva sea salt. I'm running low. :-)"

"Alok and Anjuli are masters in creating a space for learning, connecting, and enjoying yoga and the many aspects of it. Weaving together meditation, yoga, contact and partner exercises, teamwork and Thai massage happens so effortlessly in a community of acceptance. Each participant is allowed to join at the level and involvement they are willing to. As the process unfolds, so much joy and love is shared, felt and experienced. So honored to be in the dance."

"Nestled on a long, otherwise undeveloped stretch of beach, Playa Viva provides a complete break from life's ordinary cares in a beautiful, rustic setting. The entire length of the resort is just steps from the ocean, the sound of which accompanies you day and night. The food is delicious, and much of it is grown on site; the sleeping quarters are simple yet luxurious; everything is clean and well thought out. The yoga studio is like a temple, there is nothing like fixing your gaze on the far horizon of the ocean while standing in tree pose. If I could, I would make this an annual pilgrimage."

Fascinating guests to get to know, perfectly healthy food in great abundance, yoga and massage each day, and long walks along the beach. We are staying in the new tree house cottage, with the beautiful ocean waves crashing down just across the path from our room. "Rejuvenating is the word that comes to mind when I think of the practices Anjuli and Alok share. I had the pleasure of participating in their contact yoga hikes and workshops on several occasions and recently attended their contact yoga retreat at Playa Viva Resort in Mexico. I was particularly impressed with the openness and oneness Anjuli and Alok foster with participants. They are playful and encouraging in their practice and those downward dog high-fives are the best! Anjuli and Alok are a powerful team and together they are amazing teachers."

The guidance and example Anjuli and Alok provide is encouraging which set the stage for open free exploration of self in a safe nonjudgmental environment. It was also made clear this time is for us to grow and we were encouraged to do as much as we were comfortable with without pressure. The positive energy which filled the area was truly encouraging. We just came back after a week long vacation, posted so many pictures and videos on Facebook, just wanted to share this awesome experience with others and it still does not reveal nor describe the beauty of this place! Yoga in the morning (thank you Alok and Anjuli), variety of off-site excursions, you have to go and experience that for yourself! So what are you waiting for? Just pack your swimsuit and go!"

Everyone that worked there was absolutely lovely, the yoga was amazing, hopefully you get Stella, she is a wonderful! The food was to die for! So fresh, so yummy, and so flavorful! I just loved that they had such fantastic options for vegetarians! I don't eat meat, but I almost dug in because it smelled and looked so good. I loved the family style meals. "

"We really met some amazing people, had conversations that I will never forget and I felt more at peace than I have in a very long time. I slept like a baby. Granted I'm a deep sleeper and can easily fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, or even thunder storm, I still think it's just magical to wake up to the sound of the waves breaking and the beautiful pink light hitting the ocean. Everything about Playa Viva was unforgettable! Especially watching the baby turtles make their way to the big ocean. I felt like I was a little girl, I was so giddy and happy. You will be so happy you went!"

"Writing this from my home...just thinking about the warmth and beauty of Play Viva makes me both so very happy, and with so much longing to return, is tomorrow too soon? We were staying in a lovely bed and breakfast in Baraa de Potosi (another review coming on that), Hacienda La Rusa. The gracious host there, suggest we check out the gorgeous beach at Playa Viva to go swimming. We pulled up, and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome by Johnny, one of the incredible hosts at Playa Viva. We made our way to the office where we met the wonderful Julia, the manager. She gave us the tour of the grounds, offered us fresh juice. We sat there for five minutes, and new we had to book our stay here. We lucked out and got the tree house for a couple of nights! Wow! What a sensory experience that is. Beautiful craftsmanship; soft touch of the large timbered (sustainably forested wood) on our feet; the ocean breeze and salty air! We were fed the most delectable meals, by the on-site chef, Abraham. Everything, I mean, everything was thoughtful and delicious and abundant. Not too be missed is Abraham's mol. Anjali and Alok, who were the yoga instructors and body work experts. What can I say about them? Magic. My husband and I each treated ourselves to a 90-minute massage, which was so much more than a typical massage. They are both extremely talented masseuses, knowledgeable in various modalities of massage and intuitive who knew exactly what we needed. The staff made us feel like friends. Playa Viva currently has 12 casitas which is the perfect size for getting to know your neighbors. Our three night stay was so thoroughly grounding and relaxing. My heart is still there, if you cannot tell. I can't wait to go back. Thank you David for creating such a magical place! Casa viva, we will be back!"

"Just finished a great week at Playa Viva. Located south of Zihuatinejo, Playa Viva is a great place to just escape from the grid, and relax. The tree house rooms are spacious and comfortable. The beach is secluded and huge; moreover, you have it all to yourself. Resort stayers are the primary users. The staff (including Johnny, Julia, Abraham, Olga, and Antonio) were incredibly helpful and gracious. One of the nice perks included having each meal prepared by the kitchen staff for you and the rest of the guests. Not your usual "hotel dining." Additionally, we met all of the other guests while sitting at the communal dinner table, really fun. Because the resort is affiliated with a sea turtle preserve, we got to release day old sea turtles into the sea three times during one week. The kids (and you) will love that! Last, a real round of applause to Anjuli and Alok, our hosts. They really enhanced the stay in every way. They lead amazing yoga classes in the new world class yoga pavilion, with views of the ocean! Moreover, their massage therapy skills are equally excellent."

"Just returned from my third visit to Playa Viva. This year they have added several new casitas, and I was able to stay in the new Tree House, which is a tubular shaped bedroom open to the breeze and ocean sounds, with an attached open porch, lounge area, and bathroom (just down a short flight of stairs from the sleeping area). It was beautiful, and unique in design from other casitas at Playa Viva. Once again, the food was excellent, and the staff very accommodating and friendly. There was a yoga retreat going on while I was there, and mealtimes were adjusted somewhat to meet the needs of the group, but that worked fine for me. Had wonderful weather, with pleasant evenings, and no rain. No excursions for me this time; I stayed on the property and read, napped, and swam. A perfect get-away for relaxation. Wi-Fi only in the main building, but this is a place to get off-line for a change."

"I had heard about Playa Viva about a year ago and just when I was making arrangements for a stay in October, their first tree house was scheduled to be completed! With great excitement, I booked it and was not sure what to expect. When I arrived it was beyond anything I had imagined. The architecture and design of the tree house and resort was amazing, the sound of the waves was serene, and the staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. I went with a friend, but the room is perfect for one to three people - a couple, small family, group of friends, or a solo adventurer. We had an all inclusive package with delicious food and drinks available to us and a great yoga class. And we saw a sea turtle giving birth and later helped bring newly hatched baby turtles safely back to the ocean. We had a short stay so we did not get to enjoy the hikes and other activities available at the resort, so we will surely be back! Plus, all our friends and families are asking us where we took these amazing photos, so we have even more motivation to go back soon with more guests!"

"A beautiful setting inspiring wonder and relaxation! From the separate rooms with their own unique design using local and sustainable wood, the unspoiled empty beach, the pool, and the careful and thoughtful design throughout Playa Viva, in harmony with the natural setting, what more could you ask for? If that would be good food, there is also great real Mexican food, and sunsets, and of course the soothing, gentle noise of the ocean. And a highlight for me was releasing baby turtles into the ocean! All of this makes it an unforgettable place and a perfect getaway to retreat and relax."

"The location, food, staff and amenities were wonderful. The materials used and the design of the place gives it a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in such a beautiful setting. And seeing the turtles being released was so special. Also, the new buildings added are incredible and architecturally stunning."

"We booked Playa Viva for a last minute family getaway from Los Angeles last February and we were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the place, the lovely hosts and staff, and the eco-consciousness. So many resorts call themselves eco-resort but only pay lip service, but Playa Viva is the real deal. They have volunteers from all over the world returning the surrounding land to its natural state using permaculture, they have a turtle sanctuary, and lots of the food is grown there (eggs from their chickens, which our boys were able to get from the chicken coop - so much fun!).The palapas and common areas are made from reclaimed local wood, built in fully traditional style. The design is beautiful and the bedding is luxurious, the locally made bathroom products are great, and the food is also just amazing. We loved everything about it. Our five and three-year-old boys were able to run around freely as the resort is so small, and the staff also always looked out for them. The wonderful hosts were also the yoga teachers and body workers, my husband and I had some of the best massages ever. Julia, the manager, arranged for one of the American volunteers to watch our boys while we participated in a partner yoga workshop on Valentine's Day. Evenings were filled with lovely company of the other guests, playing games and enjoying wine. We also did a great tour of the village, Juluchuca, where Johnny, the activities director (and bartender) lives, so our kids got to visit the local school, bring some supplies, and see a coconut candy factory. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea of how much we loved Playa Viva!"

"We love coming here. This is our fifth stay at Playa Viva and it is still fun and exciting. The beach and setting is beautiful, the facilities are very comfortable and open to the air. The focus on sustainability adds so much interest to the stay and part of that is their involvement with the local community. There are lots of things to do, but the atmosphere is low key and personal. The food is great and the staff is always helpful. We have already made our reservations for next year."

"My brother-in-law chose this remote bed and breakfast for his wedding. He invited as many family members as could fit. It is not located in or near a city or town center. They have about eight palapa style casitas. Open air. You can see the ocean (and dolphins) all day and hear the ocean roar all night. The beds are comfortable, they provide mosquito nettings. They run on solar power and are very eco-conscious. If you can't hang with folding up your used toilet paper and discarding it in a waste basket, this place is not for you. The meals are wonderful, plentiful, and tasty. And so is the friendly staff. They are near a turtle preserve if you want to help save the baby turtles. The surf here is open Pacific Ocean. Watch yourself and others at all times. There is a salt-water pool as well. They have a few local excursions to offer on a daily basis. I would recommend this lodging to anyone looking for a less commercial and off the beaten path scene. A perfect place to get married and bring the family."

"We spent a magical week at Playa Viva with family and friends. The staff is very friendly and goes out of its way to make the guests feel comfortable and happy. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and are ecology-friendly. The meals are delicious, healthy, and home-cooked, and are served at a community table that invites guests to meet, chat, and interact. Many of the ingredients are organically grown at the estate and freshly picked. The beach front is private, the water pristine, and we had the opportunity on several occasions to release newly hatched Golfina turtles into the ocean. The kids learned plenty about the ecology and sea turtles, they surfed, learned how to fish, and build paper kites. We watched whales and dolphins sail by and a mantle ray offered us a great spectacle jumping nearby. The kids were never bored! They were very sad to leave! We will certainly be back soon!"

"This was our first trip to Mexico and we wanted to avoid congested, glassed in, and impersonal high-rise resorts. Yet we also wanted comfort. Playa Viva fit the bill and provided one of the most unique, rejuvenating, and personalized trips our family has taken. The accommodations are simply magical. There isn't a single pane of glass, key, or door, which engenders instant ease and interaction with the fresh breezes, pounding surf, and birdsong. Our room was the perfect size for my husband and nine-year-old-daughter, and its open air shower, panoramic view of the beach and eco-luxurious amenities (including a shared, shaded porch for morning reads and sunset views) made it feel as though we spent five days in a fancy tree house. The beach is private and endless in both directions, the number of guests is small (no more than about 15), and the staff creates a communal feeling. This meant that my daughter freely meandered about on her own, reading, helping herself to hibiscus agua fresca and tea, and waiting for the turtle handlers to bring a box of hatchlings for releasing into the ocean! So much better than paying for a resort's kids club with crayons and hokey nature walks. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the chefs and cooks. I miss Johnny's fresh pina coladas and margaritas at sunset, as well as organized yet relaxed approach to organizing outings (we went kayaking on a mangrove nearby). The meals were healthy, fresh, and spectacular (Arman grilled lobster on Christmas!). I asked if I could watch Olga make salsas and she invited me into the open kitchen. Julia, the general manager, could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. And I really liked that she joined us at the table on occasion. It all feels humane and kind (a wonderful alternative to the faceless staff that often work at beach resorts). Most days we body surfed, took walks on the pristine beach, looked at bioluminescent algae on the beach at night, and enjoyed communal meals with others. The mosquitoes got fierce at times, but as my daughter (who was bitten quite mercilessly) said, "We were enjoying everything too much to let it get in our way." She actually teared up at the airport on the way home! This place is special without question and draws guests who understand that resorts don't have to diminish the environment - rather, when they are well designed, they can bring us closer to it. Thank you to David Leventhal and the entire staff of Playa Viva! Regresamos!"

"Our pick-up at the Ixtapa airport began the adventure into Mexico and to Playa Viva. Playa Viva exceeded our expectations and was a fantastic family trip with our three kids ages 10, seven, and three. We arrived and were offered a cool hibiscus drink and went on every adventure available at Playa Viva this past June 13 to 20. Johnny is a very good guide and helped us in so many ways get the most out of each experience (the turtles, fishing, hiking, visiting the three to four nearby towns, horseback riding, and boogie boarding). Our last moments were spent hugging the wonderful staff, who felt like friends after just six days. Playa Viva far exceeded my expectations. We loved the staff so much, they all were amazing and made it a point to help us overcome the language barriers if we encountered them. If one of them could not get the answer, they worked together as a team to find it. They were all amazing! Beyond amazing! Georgette is so wonderful as a yoga instructor, massage therapist, and a gracious host! She is so knowledgeable and good at what she does. My wife felt blessed to have been able to take classes with her every day. We'll be sure to ask if Georgette will be at Playa Viva when we plan on coming again. Julia was so sweet and gracious and lovely to deal with, so accommodating and knowledgeable. Abram, Olga, Elly, and Inse made the most delicious meals, we were blown away and could not have been more pleased with the quality of the food and cooking for every meal during out stay. It was great to have new culinary delights day after day, meal after meal. I too am grateful to have found this wonderful gem and will be returning again. Thank you David, Leigh, and all of the on-site Playa Viva team."

"I spent a beautifully quiet four days at Playa Viva. As a solo woman travel, it was wonderful to have people to share meals with, but also had plenty of quiet walks on the beach and peaceful swinging in the hammock. The staff is helpful and invested in you having a great experience!"

"This was our, my husband and I, second trip to Playa Viva, and it was just as magical as before. The open-air huts and images of baby sea turtles drew us in the first time. The sound of the ocean and delicious food filled my soul, and the genuine love of life and sense of peace from the locals of Juluchuca brought us back. Playa Viva is one of those places that sound like a dream when you try to explain it to others. We released 200 baby sea turtles into the ocean, had lunch in the mountains with a family who grows everything they eat, came back to watch whales playing in the sunset, released more baby sea turtles into the ocean, drank basil margaritas, went for a moonlight stroll on the beach, and fell asleep to the sound of waves and the cool breeze blowing through our open air hut. It sounds like something out of a movie. Too good to be true. But at Playa Viva, it's all real. And this was only the description of one day. The magic of this place is only heightened by the kindness of the staff, the genuine love for their community and serving others. Whether it's a massage on the beach, a gluten-free, vegan meal, or a trip into town to buy as much coconut candy you can fit in your luggage, they are happy to meet-and usually exceed your requests. Playa Viva is magic."

"First, let me start by telling you that this place is amazing! Playa Viva is a sustainable boutique hotel in the middle of nowhere (literally you have to drive a four miles dirt road to get to the hotel). It is surrounded by nature and right on the beach. The personnel is super friendly and yet we felt treated like prince and princesses. There is only eight rooms in this hotel and all the rooms are completely open to the ocean. The beds are super comfortable, and the rooms are so romantic and beautiful. We felt like we were sleeping in a luxurious tree house. We enjoyed the daily yoga, the amazing pool, swam in the ocean, went on the most beautiful nature walks, and went on a hunt for crocodiles. We got to released tiny baby turtles onto the ocean in the morning. All the guests and sometimes the personnel shared local organic home-cooked food everyday on a huge beautiful wood communal table on the outdoor patio. We met people from Spain, Germany, and all over the US. We also went to visit the closest town and the closest village and its coconut candy factory as well as the school. You can bring books and school supplies to donate when you go there. If you are looking to combine intense relaxation, lush nature, animal protection, cultural discovery, and the most perfect family destination, then this is your next trip."

"My stay was, well, it just about leaves me speechless. It's indescribable with words and only barely captured in photos. I've never been to a more amazing place. The welcoming feeling upon arrival is overwhelming. It's almost like being at a rich friend's vacation house. The common area is spot where all travelers can gather, eat, drink, play dominos, or relax quietly in a hammock. The room is immaculate. Be advised that it is open air and so there's nothing to close you off from nature. The sound of the waves rocking you to sleep is priceless. We stayed in the double suite and had no issue with noise from our neighbors. The food, well, it could go on a food blog but I haven't met a guest who can wait long enough to get a photo of it before cleaning their plate! I traveled with a very picky eater and even they were pleased at each meal. The staff is warm, welcoming, and accommodating. Want something they don't have? Just give them a little while and they will attempt to get it for you. Want an excursion they don't offer? Give them some time and they'll try their best to arrange it. I made some great new friends while staying at Playa Viva. I'm an avid travel with severe wanderlust, so I don't often consider returning to a place twice but there is nothing that can keep me away from returning to Playa Viva!"

"This was our second trip to Playa Viva. The last time it was just my husband and me, this time we brought our kids (eight and 11 years old) and another family. It was just as glorious and relaxing as we remembered and surpassed everyone's expectations. The kids had such a great time building sand castles, playing in the ocean, and swimming in the pool, that we only left the property once in five days. They also loved releasing the baby turtles! The adults swam, read, chatted, relaxed in the hammocks, and sipped adult beverages. The food is fresh, delicious, and healthful, and the staff warm and welcoming. Yoga is offered every morning and I got a lovely massage one afternoon. The weather was great, warmth tempered by the ocean breeze. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean is a romantic treat. Everyone should experience this!"

"Our stay at Playa Viva was great! The size and amenities of this eco-resort fit our preferences very well. The staff couldn't have been better. The food was wonderful, both delicious and healthy, and the kitchen folks were a delight. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the cooking lesson on mole, and me as the taster, it was the best ever. The casita was very comfortable and romantic with views of the waves and sunset. The expansive beach is beautiful and perfect for long sunset walks! We definitely plan to return. Wonderful view of nature."
