A unique adventure travel destination: lush, green vegetation as far as the eye can see, with leaves as big as elephant ears. Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge embraces conservation and harmony with nature, and offers a perfect blend of comfort with environmental preservation. This unique Costa Rica eco lodge is sensitively designed with the environment and constructed from naturally fallen trees, recycled materials and harnesses the natural energy from the sun to provide electricity. During this yoga program, you have the option to stay at one of five types of accommodation.

Mango Guest House

The mango house is great for all types of travelers. Especially a good choice for friends or families that want to be close, but also have the privacy of your own room with private bathroom. Also great for single travelers or those who are a bit nervous about staying in the jungle, as the mango rooms are more in an open area then the private cabins that are tucked into the rainforest.

The Mango Guest House is a 2 storey accommodation that has 4 private rooms. Set in a beautiful jungle garden area with mango trees on all sides and open views of the surrounding rainforest. Each room has private entrance, beautiful hardwood floors, private bathroom, private terrace, louver doors and windows that wrap around the room to afford panoramic views. Rooms have queen beds (or twin beds upon request) with mosquito netting and ceiling fans. The Mango Guest House is separate from the Main Lodge.

One Bedroom Cabin

These cabins are very private and set apart from all other accommodations. Tucked into the rainforest affording you a unique feeling of being in an amazing natural setting, yet with design and comfort details that has been described as simple yet jungle chic. Each cabin has a private entrance, beautiful hardwood floors, private open air shower-bathroom, private terrace, louver doors and windows that wrap around the room to afford panoramic views. Cabins have queen beds (or twin beds upon request) with mosquito netting and ceiling fans. The garden open air shower is within the cabin’s bathroom, yet allows you to look at nature all around. Look out for the peeping monkeys!

Cabin Suite

The new Cabin Suite is also very private and set apart from all other accommodations. Tucked into the rainforest affording you a unique feeling of being in an amazing natural setting, yet with design and comfort details that have been described as simple, yet jungle-chic. The cabin has a private entrance, beautiful hardwood floors, private open air shower-bathroom, private terrace, mosquito netting over the beds, ceiling fans, louver doors and windows that wrap around the room to afford panoramic views of the surrounding jungle.

The Cabin Suite is similar in size to the two bedroom cabin, but set in a large loft like room with a removable partition wall to add flexible space for families and groups. With the partition in place it creates two large bedrooms that can accommodate 4 to 5 guests in a variety of bedding options. The Cabin Suite is also great for couples seeking more space, as well as the luxury of a comfortable sitting area, set up with a couch and chairs.

Two Bedroom Cabin

This Costa Rica yoga retreat is a private cabin much like the single cabins but larger with two bedrooms and a common den that can also be converted for another bedroom. This is a great choice for families, especially with younger children. The cabin is set at the edge of the jungle but only a few steps from the main lodge building. Each cabin has a private entrance, beautiful hardwood floors, private open air shower-bathroom, private terrace, mosquito netting over the beds, ceiling fans, louver doors and windows that wrap around the room to afford panoramic views of the jungle.

The cabin has one large bathroom complete with our signature garden open air shower that is designed to allow you to look at nature all around. The cabin can accommodate up to 5 people. However, we recommend that families with older children or groups of adults that want to be near each other also consider two rooms in the Mango Guest House. Two rooms in Mango Guest House will give you more privacy amongst your group and an additional bathroom.

Jaguar House

2 storey, 3 bedroom house surrounded by lush jungle. First floor has a living room, bedroom and full bath with beautiful open air shower. Loft-like second storey with master bedroom, 2nd bedroom, full bath and large open terrace. Let the crashing of the waves lull you to sleep!

Yoga in Costa Rica will be practiced twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. Both our yoga & massage services are provided by an ongoing schedule of certified and highly experienced instructors. The intensity of our multisport premises makes our yoga classes and massage therapy services the perfect potion to replenish your vitality and enjoy & discover further.

You will have 3 days of guided adventure activities, which include:

  • Rainforest / waterfall hikes in National Park
  • Botanic garden tour
  • Golfo Dulce kayak / snorkeling
  • Golfo Dulce boat / snorkeling tour
  • Rio Esquinas Mangrove Jungle river tour (kayak or motorboat)

"Had spend 4 nights over there, in the middle of the rain forest.. so beautiful, so remote, so calm. A very conscious place about environment also delivering messages about the planet. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and many activities can be organized (don't miss the river/mangrove tour) ; the food is excellent, in real harmony with the country and the place you stay. The comfort is very good, as long as you can accept to sleep in a cabin fully open (in fact not totally) over the rainforest."

"This is a beautiful eco-lodge on the shore of Golfo Dulce, across from the Oso Peninsula. You get there by a half-hour boat ride--the hotel staff picks you up from Golfito. All the staff are knowledgable and highly attentive. The lodge has beautiful gardens and miles of hiking trails, full of wildlife, including a herd of coatimundis and a trio of Currasows (large turkey-like birds) that prowl the gardens."

"The rooms are open to the rainforest on one side, so there's no air conditioning and you sleep under mosquito nets. There is a garden in the bathroom, with bats hanging from the eaves. All night long you hear the howler monkeys, frogs, insects, and birds keep up a non-stop chorus of night music. In the morning you are awakened by the raucous voices of scarlet macaws flying overhead. You can sit on the deck just outside your room and feel part of the jungle."

"Meals are served in a beautiful central hall with more fabulous views of the rainforest and passing birds. The bar serves excellent, creative tropical drinks. "

"All kinds of excursions are available. We went on hikes with a guide and without, a tour of edible plants (followed by the chance to help cook the dinner), and a wonderful kayaking excursion up a river where we saw many birds and a boa. You can do yoga next to the beach, or get a massage. You can also swim and snorkle off the dock. "

"I should note that several of my family members were less enthusiastic than I. My son was freaked out by the bugs and by sleeping in an open room protected only by mosquito netting. (The bugs weren't that bad, actually, so long as you used insect repellent. Caution: Bring plenty of your own--you can't buy it at the lodge.) My husband couldn't sleep because of the heat and humidity. My daughter was upset because her books and her iPad case were damaged by the humidity. But I loved it because it felt like sleeping in the rainforest without the inconveniences of camping. I would love to go back."

"No matter how long you stay you will wish it was longer. The meals are a gift, lodging wonderful, tours and amenities superb. We went very early June, avoided any crowds anywhere and this place in like a small fantasy island!"

"Tour area in the morning to avoid weather. There are many kayaks to take advantage of and the fjord is like being on a lake. Dolphin, turtles, whales - everything you can imagine depending on season. Swimming is wonderful here with a great pier to jump off off. One tip- the "waterfall hike is fairly strenuous and involves climbing. Wear GOOD water shoes and make sure you have a water proof camera or case."

"be prepared for mosquitos - this is Costa Rica, so there are spiders, a few snakes, bugs, all the things that make Costa Rica wonderful. Bring bug spray and sunblock!"

"Playa Nicuesa is a place of beauty, pride, simplicity and tranquility. You arrive and depart by boat. Cabins are simple, beautiful, open air. From our cabin, Peresozo, we heard the lapping waves of the Gulf, animal sounds from the surrounding rainforest. Meals too are simple and beautiful. All food is fresh, grown or obtained locally. Perhaps best of all is the staff. Each member of the staff is committed to your positive experience of Costa Rica. The philosophy of sustainability includes relationships with local people, and for your stay, you are a local. Staff and guides share themselves with you and go out of their way to customize your stay to your unique interests. The guides are deeply educated and idealistic. Not only do they lead satisfying and memorable excursions on land and Gulf, but they run to find you if they sight an animal of interest to you. Tropical animals, fish, dolphins, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, yoga, or "hammock tour," it's all waiting for you."

"This place is just amazing!! Had the most wonderful time to relax, disconnect, harmonize with nature! It takes some time get to this remote place, you need to go to Golfito or Puerto Jimenez and then by boat to the lodge, crossing the Golfo Dulce Bay. The lodge is made out of wood, rustic style, rooms are open, so no windows to close as well is the shower. Open air shower. From your bed you look into the rainforest. You may spot some spiders or snakes (I had a snake wanting to get into my open bathroom), but a small one, not poisonous, this is pure nature! I recommend to do yoga classes (deck is close to the beach) use the trails of the lodge to discover the rainforest and go for a swim! The kayak tour is nice as well, if you are lucky, you see some dolphins!! I absolutely loved this lodge!!"

"We only had limited time after a business trip to busy Miami, and we feel so fortunate that we chose a four day stay at the Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge. The lodge is run by wonderfully attentive, fun and helpful staff and guides, who tirelessly pointed out the wonders of the rainforest to us. Snorkeling, a river trip, a waterfall hike, yoga, making our own chocolate and rounding things off with learning how to stand-up paddle (the newest addition to the many, many activities offered at Nicuesa) made our short stay exciting and relaxing. We definitely recommend staying at this sustainable lodge! Thanks to all!"

"My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of spending an entire week at this magical place. Words cannot capture our amazing experience. The resident yogi at the time, Thais, is gentle and soulful. She conducted classes in Spanish or English and was superb. The yoga platform is on the beach, beautifully situated, and the classes I had with her there touched me deeply. Both of us, very experienced travelers, cried when we left. When we die, we hope heaven is a little like Playa Nicuesa."

"Hey you guys. First thank you all for helping me after my little accident in the bar. The walking stick saved my life for the following 5 days, glad to say I got home ok, but without the help of any wheelchairs. The message did not get through to the airlines. Anyway I have a great piece of art which will remind me of you all and in particular the great guide that made it for me. Thank You. We had a great time with you, we love your country and even more, we love the people. Maybe we will return sometime, we will definitely recommend your lodge. Thank you for the offers. Our best wishes to you all."
