Join Peter Guinosso Yoga for a special yoga retreat with optional rock climbing, hiking, nature immersion, meditation, camp fires, kirtan, and star-gazing in sacred Joshua Tree National Monument outside of Palm Springs. Joshua Tree is well known for its awe inspiring natural beauty and wildlife and provides a perfect place to practice yoga and get reconnected to nature. We will spend a day exploring and soaking in the Deep Creek Hot Springs. The retreat begins at 2 p.m. on Wednesday May 27th and ends 12 noon Sunday May 31st, 2015. Massages will also be available and Scott Fin Photography will be sharing photography lessons for an additional cost.

2 day photo workshop by Scott Finsthwait (optional)

Day 1: We will go on a refreshing 90-minute photo safari in the small canyon behind the Indian Cove campground, where we will learn and practice some basics of photography like how to use your camera on different settings and modes, metering and the three components of exposure: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO; a few guidelines of composition: rule of thirds, leading lines, lens choice, perspective, etc.

Day 2: We will go on a glorious 90-minute safari in an area yet-to-be-determined. We will review the first day, cover a few different types of photography (portrait, landscape, macro, and abstract), and learn about editing and post-production tips and tricks. It is advised that participants bring a bottle of water, a notebook and pen, and a camera: iPhone, Droid, etc., an SLR, a DSLR, or a point and shoot. A small, environmentally friendly-ish packet of information covering these topics plus some of Scott's personal photography tips and tricks will be provided.

Post-retreat: Scott will continue to provide online help, support, and advice.

Cost: 2-day workshop, 3 hours in the field is 50 USD.

Pete Guinosso

After thirty years of running, cycling, and competitive sports, Pete was astonished to learn that his biggest challenge and adventure would happen on a yoga mat. Within six months of practicing yoga consistently, not only did Pete feel stronger and more flexible, but he also began to realize the deeper benefits of meditative movement.

Motivated by a desire to further explore this connection of mind, body, and spirit through movement and breath, Pete spent several years and over 600 hours training with world renowned yoga instructor Ana Forrest. It is through this experience that he learned how to compassionately guide students of all levels through a vigorous yoga practice with integrated breath work and awareness.

Known for his joyful energy, skilled touch and sense of humor, Pete creates a spiritual yet light-hearted environment for his students to uncover the deeper benefits of yoga. Petes ability to compassionately guide students of all levels through a vigorous asana practice makes his classes amongst the most dynamic in the bay area. For newcomers and advanced practitioners yearning for a new adventure and challenge, let Pete be your guide!

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California. Come explore for yourself.

"If I could give the retreat an 11 points rating, I totally would (so on your scale it is a 10). Yoga classes were great, the food was beyond any expectations, and Pete has created a very warm and accepting atmosphere. It was a wonderful retreat!"

"Pete is the real deal. He's down to earth, and also an incredible healer and spiritual teacher. I have had some of my best practices and my most profound breakthroughs in his class. It's more than just a fantastic workout (although it IS just that)."

"Peter is a very gifted yoga teacher. He knows how to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He knows when to be funny, when to give a student space, when help is needed, when to move into a new direction. His classes are vigorous, challenging, playful, meditative, and relaxing all at the same time. I feel energized after one of Peters classes. Peter calls us to be fully present for each breath in each pose, and how can that not ooze into the rest of our lives off the mat?"

"In Pete's classes, I've learned to understand particular poses better as well as found the courage to try ones that scare me. I've grown as a yogi, and maybe best or most important of all in our difficult, stressful world, I've had so much fun! I'm very grateful to him for that."

"Pete has the physical know-how to pull you in and keep you safe, the emotional delicacy to help you connect, and the spiritual intellect to guide you further. Add a little (ok, a lot) of humor to keep in real, and well, it's an intergalactic party of epic proportion. To the yogis who've been around the block, take one class and you'll understand. To the newbies who are nervous and don't know where to start, Pete is exactly the person to show you just how amazing this practice can be no matter who you are or what you want out of it."

"Pete is a really compassionate and skillful yoga teacher. He infuses his classes with both humility and humor, making for a nice cocktail, vibe wise; not to mention the kick-your-butt sweaty workout."
