Land of Medicine Buddha is a Center devoted to the transmission of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition and values through teaching, meditation and community service, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsong Khapa of Tibet as taught to them by their founder, Lama Thubten Yeshe and their Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Land of Medicine Buddha is a unique facility providing Tibetan Buddhist teachings, retreats, healing, a beautiful physical environment, and much more.

Land of Medicine Buddha is home to three beautiful large prayer wheels, and many smaller ones as well. The Mani Wheel outside the main hall is packed with 64 billion om mani padme hum mantras, microfilmed from an original script written by His Holiness Dalai Lama. This is one of the most powerful prayer wheels on earth. The large prayer wheel in the Ksitigarbha garden has 11.8 billion mantras, and the Ksitigharba statue is being surrounded by thirty two smaller prayer wheels each holding over one million mantras . At the entrance to the center (near the bookstore), work is in progress to completely fill our big prayer wheel with the mantra of compassion, as well as other mantras for long life, to clear obstacles, purify negativities and develop wisdom.

Pete Guinosso (E-RYT 500)

Pete helps students connect with their hearts. His gentle guidance and intuitive assists allow students of all levels to step out of their comfort zones and find their own authentic path in the practice. Pete’s classes offer strong, vigorous sequencing grounded in the breath and intention, and always leave room for playfulness and fun.

Drawing from his years as a scientist, Pete approaches his practice with a sense of curiosity and wonder. He also draws from what initially brought him to the yoga mat: over twenty five years of running, cycling, and competitive sports. His light-hearted exploration of going deeper on a path that is both physical and spiritual has created a thriving community of yogis in the San Francisco Bay area and around the world.

Inspired by his love of travel and the outdoors, Pete offers a wide range of yoga adventures each year, around the world and close to home. His passion to guide students into their role as skilled, authentic yoga teachers and healers led him to create his signature Lighting the Path teacher training. Pete tours internationally for workshops, festivals, trainings and retreats.

Stephanie Guinosso (RYT-200)

Stephanie discovered yoga following a knee injury playing college basketball in 1998. After pursuing traditional rehabilitation that did not lead to a full recovery, she tried yoga as a last resort. Yoga helped to break up the scar tissue, increase strength and flexibility, and ultimately heal the injury. She has been practicing yoga ever since! Trained as a Forrest Yoga Teacher in 2008 under Ana Forrest, Stephanie inspires students to develop an intuitive body awareness, work intelligently at their physical edges, and use the gifts of yoga to walk through life with a little more ease and a lot less struggle. She currently assists her husband, Pete Guinosso, on numerous local and international retreats. She also teaches yoga through Lemonade – A Yoga Program for young men in juvenile hall.

Situated on 108 acres adjoining 10,000 acres of state forest, this physical location provides a perfect space for guests to visit for the day to take a hike in the woods, meditate, relax, and connect to their spiritual inner being; recover from the stress of their busy lives, or just relax.

Ano Nuevo State Park Public Seal Walk

Ano Nuevo is home to a large colony of Northern Elephant Seals. The seals come ashore to give birth and mate from mid December through March. Walks last about 2.5 hours, and consist of a moderately strenuous 3 mile hike over sand and sloping terrain. Be prepared for windy, rainy conditions, as well as muddy trails. Layered clothing, sturdy shoes, and hooded rain gear are recommended. Bring bottled water for drinking as there is none available during the walk. The cost is 8 USD.

"Pete is the real deal. He's down to earth, and also an incredible healer and spiritual teacher. I have had some of my best practices and my most profound breakthroughs in his class. It's more than just a fantastic workout (although it IS just that)."

"Peter is a very gifted yoga teacher. He knows how to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He knows when to be funny, when to give a student space, when help is needed, when to move into a new direction. His classes are vigorous, challenging, playful, meditative, and relaxing all at the same time. I feel energized after one of Peters classes. Peter calls us to be fully present for each breath in each pose, and how can that not ooze into the rest of our lives off the mat?"

  • Review by Antonia M. from San Francisco, USA

"In Pete's classes, I've learned to understand particular poses better as well as found the courage to try ones that scare me. I've grown as a yogi, and maybe best or most important of all in our difficult, stressful world, I've had so much fun! I'm very grateful to him for that."

"Pete has the physical know-how to pull you in and keep you safe, the emotional delicacy to help you connect, and the spiritual intellect to guide you further. Add a little (ok, a lot) of humor to keep in real, and well, it's an intergalactic party of epic proportion. To the yogis who've been around the block, take one class and you'll understand. To the newbies who are nervous and don't know where to start, Pete is exactly the person to show you just how amazing this practice can be no matter who you are or what you want out of it."

"Pete is a really compassionate and skillful yoga teacher. He infuses his classes with both humility and humor, making for a nice cocktail, vibe wise; not to mention the kick-your-butt sweaty workout."
